The Caloura Hotel Resort impressed us all round. Super nice room with a great view of the sea from the balcony. Beautifully landscaped grounds all around with lots of flowers and flowering shrubs. About 15 minutes by car from Ponta Delgada, it is in a beautiful, quiet location, except for the merry chattering of seabirds at night. Very, very great breakfast buffet - my personal favorite the carob bread rolls, I have never eaten such delicious rolls! The evening buffet was too expensive for us at €28, because we stuck to the salads and desserts in the evening, the main courses were not to our liking, and the a la carte food was more recommendable. The staff is super friendly and helpful, the rooms are super clean! We will come back next year! 100 recommended!!! Das Caloura Hotel Resort hat uns rundum begeistert. Das Abendbuffet war mit 28€ uns zu teuer, weil wir uns Abends eher an die Salate und den Nachtisch gehalten haben, die Hauptgerichte waren nicht unser Geschmack, da war das Essen A la Carte eher zu empfehlen. Das Personal ist super freundlich und hilfsbereit, die Zimmer tipptopp sauber! Wir werden nächstes Jahr wiederkommen! 100 empfehlenswert!!!

The room was good and made better with view to old fort and dock. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the bar area was welcoming and useful as I had a late check in. All the above was undone by a sub- standard breakfast, surprisingly because Portuguese usually excel in this area- the toaster malfunctioned daily, the cordial was so watered down, simple water would have been better, the homemade pastéis de nata were an embarrassment. The hotel was full of French and other European guests and I’m sorry we showed them such low standards. On the positive side: the location is very convenient.

Nice clean hotel with lovely pool in a fantastic location. So close to everything. Helpful staff and good breakfast. Also a small early breakfast in the lobby for those leaving before usual breakfast hours, wich is a great idea. Some areas of the hotel are a bit dated. Rooms are clean and very quiet and good for sleeping but wifi was almost useless on the 3rd floor.

The location is good, quite central and the service was good. The breakfast could be improved in terms of the amount of elements to put in the bread, which they gave us was insufficient for two people and the breakfast cereals should have been something like oatmeal and granola instead of achapic and estrelitas. Overall I think it has good quality for the price.

I just returned from a three night stay at this hotel with my girlfriend and our teenage daughter. We have been countless times in S. Miguel as we consider it such a pleasant and beautiful island. This time we opted for a hotel outside the main towns and in fact we managed to do just that. At the same time it is only 20 minutes away from the airport and 15 minutes away from Ponta Delgada or Ribeira Grande, the two main towns. We already visited the nine islands of the Azores archipelago and always get a rental car at the airport (exception at Corvo Island). If you are staying in this hotel, it is paramount that you do the same. As to the hotel itself, we booked it only four weeks in advance on high season, thus we had to pay the full rate of the stay at that moment. Upon check-in on room 206, we were given two identical cards without any distinctive element, one to open the door and the other to insert into the slot for lightening. That is odd, generally, hotels give two identical keys to open the door and one of them, if necessary can be left on the slot when we are out. We were assigned a spacious accommodation with living room, bedroom and bathroom. We did not have sea view and the living room had lots of glass walls overlooking the adjacent condo. All those glasses made it very hot on the sun shining days and we had to keep the AC on during the day. The décor of the room was unstylish and lacking attention to details. The bedroom had a big closet but no clothes rail or hangers. Besides that, one of the doors of the closet could not be opened fully, because it bumped into the shelves that are installed as bedside tables. The safe was old style, that is to say, it closes with a key that we had to ask for at the reception at no charge, along with a cumbersome key ring that we had to take with us whenever we were out of the room. The living room had a well equipped kitchen, that we did not use but it was constantly patrolled by half a dozen ants. We had bought previously some good looking fruits and had to fill a big dish with water and in the middle of it we put a small dish with our fruit so that the ants weren’t able to cross the water in order to get to fruit island. The bathroom was very spacious and pleasant looking even if the washbasin was more stylish than efficient. This room lacked tremendously of a place to put one´s belongings (toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, electrical razor and so on). Amazingly no one foresaw the installation of a shelf. The social areas of the hotel such as the lobby are, again, unstylish, corridors have shabby carpeting. The room where breakfast is served has a view to an outside wall and lacks natural lightening. Breakfast itself has a reasonable variety of items, but by no means is it worth 12 euro per person per day, that in our case we were asked to paid in advance, precisely at the same moment we made the reservation. I stayed in The Lince for several days in January, 2024. The very good impression met me at the front doors and stayed with me all the time. The personnel is so polite and helpful, that it was like visiting friends. Food on breakfasts is excellent. If you need to eat something during the day, you are welcome to have pleasure too. And dinners were extraordinary. It is possible to go to the restaurant on dinner even if you don’t stay here. And I recommend to eat here and enjoy excellent dishes, great serving and selection of very tasty wine. Definetely I will return to stay here again on my next trips to Azores. And I‘d like to visit the Lince in continental Portugal, when it is opened this year.

I was very pleased by this hotel! As the town itself is small, I found that I could easily walk to the main drag, a shopping mall, and even a pineapple farm easily from here. The staff were all very professional and friendly, and they cleaned my room every day. The price was great, the breakfast was decent, and the bathroom was nice, clean and spacious. The air conditioning worked very well (I was here in the summer). And did I mention how friendly and clean everything was!? I hope I can stay here again!

The scenery is good, a bit biased, eating is very inconvenient, the hotel restaurant is not bad. With the children to go, there is no extra bed, I received a breakfast fee of 12 euros, the facilities and breakfast of this five-star hotel is really flattering, the domestic three or four stars level, breakfast is too bad

The location of the hotel is ideal. The seafront and all amenities are easily found and well sign posted. The swimming pool, to be fair, was lovely and a calm place to be. The receptionist was helpful in booking a tour for us , thank you We started in a corner room of a block in the grounds which was small but possible. Like others have said the hotel is dated and in need of an upgrade. Breakfast was pleasant - the yoghurt and fruit was welcome. After one exceptionally humid hot night trying to make the AC system work we reported it as faulty. The engineer came and looked at and apparently ‘ it was working’ - yes the fan works loudly but there was no cooling. The staff readily offered us a different room which we accepted and then agreed as we checked out that the air conditioning at the hotel is not strong… ie doesn’t work,! A hard bed and 2 sleepless nights isn’t fun on holiday.

We stayed for only one night due to its proximity to the airport, as we were travelling on the next day. The location is superb, being very central and within walking distance of everything you will require. Turn right on exiting, and you are a 2 minute walk to the port area with all its restaurants, bars, and also a lot of street food on offer, there is also a public swimming area in the harbour. Turn left on exiting, and you immediately have a choice of two cheap breakfast locations. Walk the side streets for bars, restaurants, and entertainment. The reception and breakfast staff are really fantastic, knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating, which is worth a few stars alone. Our room on the 3rd floor was fine, it was spotlessly clean, the beds were very comfortable and the bedding of good quality. The ensuite was again fine, not luxurious but equipped with everything you require. The room generally was a bit soulless, looking over the rear of the hotel and pretty basic, but then we were there on holiday, the plan never was to spend much time in the room. The breakfast is a standard buffet type breakfast that's perfectly adequate but won't blow your socks off, many alternatives exist close by. No onsite parking provided but paid parking available close by. The hotels location and staff make up for any shortcomings that may, or indeed may not exist. Just enjoy the convenience it offers and relax.

The hotel is located near a botanical garden. Thermal pool, 2 open jacuzzis and an indoor SPA creates a wonderful atmosphere. The ladies who clean the room deserve the highest rating as it is tough to keep everything perfect while the guests are using the thermal pools with iron (volcanic spring) water. Nice breakfast and terrace.

Love love love this hotel! Don’t let the slightly odd location fool you (it’s right at the entrance to the city; it’s actually perfect once you’re acquainted with the area, and walking distance to just about everything in PD). Also, the inside of the hotel is perfect – new, modern, clean, spacious, and refined. The outside doesn’t do it justice. The spa: Amazing and pristine. We used it almost daily. It’s so clean and has everything you need after a full day of exploring on your feet. The breakfast: Wow. There’s little else you can think of wanting. The service/concierge: This is the best part. Every single employee of the hotel was wonderful, caring, and attentive to our questions and wants. The recommendations given by Luis and Victor (apologies if I misspelled your names!) were exactly what we wanted. We arrived without much of a plan, which ultimately didn’t matter – Luis and Victor helped plan out or itinerary, location by location, including the restaurants. This hotel has few, if any, negatives. Stay here, it won't disappoint. We’ll be back!

I would grade this more as a European 3* but it still offered good value considering it's location and standard of accommodation. We had to move rooms after a few days as our original room (502) faced some outlets that omitted a nasty smell of an evening which meant we could not sit out on the balcony - reception staff speak great English and thankfully managed to swap to new room. The pools (indoor and outdoor), steam room and sauna were great but jacuzzi needs servicing as only a couple of jets actually work and was very murky. Spa treatments very reasonable and very good. (Read a review saying you need to bring your own towels to use pools - this is not true, you can obtain pool towels from reception for EUR10 deposit.) Didn't use restaurant but bar staff were great and food was good (chips are crisps, not fries though!) Kitchenette is exactly that, two hobs, combi microwave and kettle - cooking a family meal for 5 was a challenge but doable with a camping style outlook! All in all a great budget friendly base for exploring the island or taking boat trips and being able to semi self cater.

A fairly new and clean hotel, but the staff really destroyed our experience unfortunately. The pros: - New large rooms - Small but clean bathroom - Free breakfast - Free parking - Central location (not a huge city) - Comfortable bed The cons: - Staff there to do bare minimum and make you feel like you're annoying them - No breakfast left half an hour before it's meant to finish - Line ups for coffee at breakfast - You can hear everything through the front door to all the rooms being cleaned above, below and next to you, good luck sleeping without ear plugs - No water or anything provided in the room except tea Arrived on a 6am flight sleepless from Toronto to be looked at and in one glance told rooms won't be ready till 2pm, no exceptions. I ended up asking every few hours as we were freezing on chairs in the lobby, and were only told it's full and that a lesser noisy room would be available if we want to take it (smaller, smaller bed and facing the street) to which we said no, as we're light sleepers. You would think they would tell us when the room was ready but no, after falling asleep in a chair under the blasting AC, I woke up sick, stiff and the room was available but the lady at the front desk had better things to do than tell me. She could at least have offered us breakfast with warm coffee but no, zero effort made. At breakfast the next day, half an hour before closing there was no bread left or scrambled eggs. When we asked they said it was over, meanwhile we could see two cooks in the kitchen making scrambled eggs but obviously not for guests... this was the general experience throughout the stay. The best was at checkout being asked if we drank the bottle of water in the room. Firstly, there wasn't one, ironically, were they going to charge us for that too? Stay somewhere else, there are nicer hotels and inns, some near the waterfront and restaurants.

So far the best hotel of this year's Azores trips. Beautiful, very clean room with view of the port. Great Spa! Good breakfast and extremely friendly staff. One point of criticism: like in so many hotels, there is no enough possibility to dry wet clothes. On the Azors it will keep it wet from above. And it would be nice if you could dry shoes and jackets.

Albergo lontano dal centro del paese di Capelas, raggiungibile a piedi attraverso una panoramica strada sterrata (priva di illuminazione pubblica, e quindi non percorribile dopo il tramonto), oppure rasentando i muretti in pietra lungo una strada carrozzabile dove le vetture sfrecciano veloci… L’albergo offre alcune attività, per chi desidera godere appieno di una vacanza rilassante, come ad esempio una piscina esterna circondata da molti lettini a disposizione degli ospiti, palestra interna dotata di numerosi attrezzi, una piscina interna, ed una sala giochi con tavoli per giocare a carte o a dama, con anche un tavolo da biliardo (a seconda dell’attività scelta in sala giochi, ci potrebbero essere costi da dover regolare in reception / si veda descrizione foto). Sono a disposizione degli ospiti, gratuitamente, degli ampi teli di spugna da utilizzare in piscina. Nelle camere, a disposizione gratuita ci sono bottiglie d’acqua, bollitore e bustine di tisane e zucchero. Ci sono anche cialde di caffè Nespresso, a pagamento extra di 0,75€ cadauna. L’albergo ha un’anima “green”: oltre a proporre agli ospiti un cambio non quotidiano della biancheria da bagno (che, comunque, viene effettuata se richiesto), premia coloro che non necessitino di far rassettare ogni giorno la camera da letto ed il bagno, con un voucher del valore di 3,00 Eur da utilizzare al bar dell’albergo o per le bevande ai pasti in ristorante. Se si preferisce una pulizia quotidiana, bisogna dirlo in reception ogni giorno entro le ore 12.00 (ed in questo caso si “perde” il voucher). In caso contrario, la camera non viene rassettata, e alla sera si può chiedere il voucher il cui valore può essere scalato immediatamente dalla consumazione di bevande al pasto, da regolare con pagamento diretto o con addebito alla camera. Le stanze sono ampie, dotate di balcone, con pavimento in listelli “simil-legno” (no moquette). Letti ampi e con materassi ergonomicamente rigidi al punto giusto. Poche prese a muro per ricaricare, contemporaneamente, telefoni mobili e p.c. od altri dispositivi elettronici. Rete Wifi gratuita a disposizione degli ospiti, ma priva di password di sicurezza. Per chi si sposta in automobile, l’albergo dispone di due piazzali di parcheggio, interni alla struttura ma scoperti (parcheggio non interrato). Colazione e cena a buffet: ampia scelta di piatti, ben curati, e variati tutti i giorni. Servizio attento e non assillante del personale di sala che libera il tavolo dalle stoviglie usate. Personale di reception cortese, che parla anche inglese. E’ un albergo nel quale ci siamo trovati bene e che consigliamo.

As to the hotel itself, we booked it only four weeks in advance on high season, thus we had to pay the full rate of the stay at that moment. Upon check-in on room 206, we were given two identical cards without any distinctive element, one to open the door and the other to insert into the slot for lightening. That is odd, generally, hotels give two identical keys to open the door and one of them, if necessary can be left on the slot when we are out. We were assigned a spacious accommodation with living room, bedroom and bathroom. We did not have sea view and the living room had lots of glass walls overlooking the adjacent condo. All those glasses made it very hot on the sun shining days and we had to keep the AC on during the day. The décor of the room was unstylish and lacking attention to details. The bedroom had a big closet but no clothes rail or hangers. Besides that, one of the doors of the closet could not be opened fully, because it bumped into the shelves that are installed as bedside tables. The safe was old style, that is to say, it closes with a key that we had to ask for at the reception at no charge, along with a cumbersome key ring that we had to take with us whenever we were out of the room. The living room had a well equipped kitchen, that we did not use but it was constantly patrolled by half a dozen ants. We had bought previously some good looking fruits and had to fill a big dish with water and in the middle of it we put a small dish with our fruit so that the ants weren’t able to cross the water in order to get to fruit island. The bathroom was very spacious and pleasant looking even if the washbasin was more stylish than efficient. This room lacked tremendously of a place to put one´s belongings (toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, electrical razor and so on). Amazingly no one foresaw the installation of a shelf. The social areas of the hotel such as the lobby are, again, unstylish, corridors have shabby carpeting. The room where breakfast is served has a view to an outside wall and lacks natural lightening. Breakfast itself has a reasonable variety of items, but by no means is it worth 12 euro per person per day, that in our case we were asked to paid in advance, precisely at the same moment we made the reservation. Wonderful place. Gorgeous huge rooms with fabulous views of ocean and nearby church. Kind and helpful staff from front desk to housekeeping. We arrived at 8 am as had early flight in. They directed us to breakfast and had a room available immediately after. Very thoughtful. The breakfast was wonderful. Eggs Benedict, eggs royal, fresh fruit, wonderful breads, cheese , ham, smoothies etc. OMG the chocolate croissants and portuguese tarts hot from oven! Great coffee. So many choices! The dinners were probably best on the island. Food was reasonable in price and well presented. Steak was very tender, seafood fresh and light. Not a fault from beginning to end of stay. Area quiet and safe. Variety store a few minutes away with wine and snacks for sale. One of the customers there sang a Fado song for me. This hotel is a great place for couples. I think a bit too quiet for families. Reasonable drives to all attractions. Look no further

White was the perfect place for our honeymoon. From the moment we walked in the door we were struck by the serene ocean views and the very kind and helpful staff. Everyone spoke English perfectly and were all so willing to help make our experience on Sao Miguel great. We stayed in an ocean view suite and it was the perfect place to come home to and unwind after our days of adventure on the island. The hotel was so clean and beautiful. The restaurant food was top quality and paired with a stunning atmosphere, it was so enjoyable we had a hard time wanting to go anywhere else for our meals! They provided us with a cellphone so we could contact concierge at any time, as well as have an emergency number (thankfully we didn’t need to call it!) Lagoa is the best place to stay on the island because it is so central, the west and east were both short drives away. They also provided us with beach towels and a large beach tote bag and umbrellas. We made use of the beach tote every day, this was such a thoughtful thing to include as the island provides lots of opportunities for impromptu swims! We couldn’t be happier with our choice to stay here and would recommend it to anyone.
