Facilities: Excellent! My friend enjoyed the public hot spring, and the facilities and views were great.
Cleanliness: Good. Both the room and the lobby were clean and bright.
Environment: The room view was fantastic! Unbeatable sea view. I'll definitely stay here again next time.
Service: The hotel staff were wonderful, very friendly and professional. They helped us with our luggage and even made our beds. Compared to some much more expensive hotels I've stayed at, the service here was even better! I was a bit worried about the service after reading some reviews, but it was absolutely unfounded. My friend and I both regretted not staying an extra night.
Authentic Japanese style hotel that own a hot spring underneath the property. The hotel provides public bath, but private baths are also available for reservation. Breakfast comes in a a personal set and is delicious. The room facing the beach front view hearing sound of the ocean is serene and peaceful. Staff are all friendly and professional.
The stunning ocean view was incredibly relaxing. The foot bath directly faces the sea, offering a breathtaking vista. The rooftop outdoor hot spring was quite small, which was a bit disappointing. The glass panels were murky and stained, and we could clearly see the rooftops of nearby buildings, which were uncomfortably close, so privacy was a significant concern. In contrast, the hot spring on the first floor was quite good. After a refreshing soak, there's a wonderful relaxation area where you can enjoy coffee while gazing at the sea – absolutely fantastic. The buffet breakfast and dinner were fairly average. Perhaps it was because the hotel was packed with tour groups and elementary school field trips, but the food replenishment couldn't keep up with the demand. Despite this, the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly.
I stayed here when I went to Hakodate for a live show.
It was about a 10-minute walk from Hakodate Arena, it has a hot spring, a hotel with an ocean view, and there is a 24-hour Hasegawa store within walking distance, and it was a great choice.
The sunlight pours in through the large windows, so even though it is late January in the middle of winter, you don't have to turn on the heater.
You can relax with the sound of the ocean in the background.
The open-air bath is like an infinity pool, and the ocean is right in front of you, so you can stay in it forever.
The bus to Hakodate Station leaves almost right in front, there is a convenience store nearby, and the 24-hour Hasegawa store is just a short walk away, so it is very convenient.
There is no need to rush to get on public transportation after the arena live show, you can drink at a nearby izakaya until the sun sets and then go home, and the front desk is open 24 hours a day, so it was reassuring.
Whenever I go to Hakodate, I always stay around Hakodate Station, but this was such a great encounter that I think I will stay at this hotel in the future!
This hotel is relatively new, and both the lobby and the onsen facilities are excellent, facing the sea with brand-new amenities. The rooftop open-air onsen is stunning, allowing you to enjoy the ocean and starry sky while soaking. The rooms are spacious, clean, and very comfortable. Breakfast and dinner are especially lavish, with a wide variety of dishes like crab legs, tempura, sashimi, and grilled scallops. Getting to the airport is also very convenient, with a bus stop just a short walk from the entrance, reaching the airport in about 10 minutes. There's a friendly and attentive Chinese-speaking staff member at the front desk. I will definitely choose this hotel again next time I visit Hakodate.
I'd call this unbeatable. First off, the front desk service was truly above and beyond my expectations. It was snowing heavily, and the bellhop was still waiting outside for guests to arrive, helping with luggage. The outdoor private onsen in the room was also exceptional; the view and atmosphere were incredible. The breakfast, with its unbeatable ocean view, topped it all off. I had a wonderful day in Hakodate!
Love it with family trip. Both meals included and spacious dining area with kids playing area. Children love it while adults are able to enjoy food and drinks.
The hotel's location is super convenient. After getting off at Hakodate Station, you can take buses 95, 95A, or 96 right outside the station (get off at Yunokawa Onsen Station), and the hotel is directly across the street. Conversely, you can catch a bus from the hotel entrance directly to JR Hakodate Station. This is incredibly handy, especially given how expensive taxis are in Japan.
The hotel rooms are very spacious. While the facilities are a bit dated, the big plus is that the room comes with a private, continuously flowing hot spring bath – it's not one of those you have to turn on and off with a tap. It's semi-open-air, looking out onto the ocean, so there's no need to worry about privacy. Soaking in the onsen while enjoying the sea view, perhaps with an ice cream [chuckle] – it really doesn't get much more relaxing!
Since we booked a Japanese-style room, staff came to make our beds after check-in. The mini-fridge was stocked with complimentary bottled water, bottled tea, and beer. Unfortunately, my family and I don't drink, so we didn't make use of that service [facepalm].
Right next to the hotel is the 'Ichimonji' ramen shop, and the Tropical Botanical Garden, where you can watch monkeys soaking in the hot springs, is just a 300-500 meter walk away. Guests staying at Hanatsuki can also request a window seat at breakfast to enjoy the sea view while they eat.
Very good, nice people, great view, nice room! It is recommended to book two nights to relax! The most amazing thing is opening the balcony door! From that moment on, you feel that taking a taxi is really worth it.
This resort has everything you need for a fun time on the slopes. It has close proximity to 2 chair lifts, drone shows, fireworks, nice fireplace at a restaurant complex that you can both walk and ski to, good few different choices of breakfast and dinner buffets, nice relaxing outdoor onsen and indoor swimming + wave pool, lockers for ski gear and ski gear is easy to rent. Everything is payable by card EXCEPT for ski equipment for some odd reason, that you'll probably need to use cash or wechat, alipay etc. Overall had an amazing time with my group of 6 friends.

Amazing
BB.V.For us it is the second time in this wonderful hotel and every time it is like living a dream: it feels like being in a bubble thanks to all the well-being in which you are immersed. You are pampered by every service present and by the kindness of the staff, which makes you feel at home. The food is simply divine and you would just like to have a more spacious stomach so you could taste more and more. Nature is unsurpassed, every day you find yourself meeting spectacular creatures even just going out a short distance away. You will not find a similar place in all of Japan, where man meets nature in a perfect combination of balance, harmony and deep respect. We hope to be able to return a third time and relive this beautiful dream again. Thank you for everything Kitakobushi Shiretoko Hotel!
GGuest UserIf you are looking for a truly authentic ryokan experience, Spa Shiosai is an absolute gem. From the moment you arrive, the level of care and attention to detail is world-class.
The Highlights
Exceptional Dining: Each meal was a work of art, prepared with incredible precision and seasonal flair. I especially appreciated the front desk’s proactive service—they consistently checked in to coordinate my preferred dining times, ensuring every meal was served perfectly fresh.
Spacious Public Baths: The onsen facilities are fantastic. The public area is expansive and never felt crowded. Having both a sauna and a serene outdoor bath (rotenburo) made for a deeply relaxing experience.
Comfortable Living: Unlike many traditional stays, the room here was very spacious and exceptionally well-heated, which made for a cozy retreat after a day of exploring.
The Verdict
This isn't just a place to sleep; it’s a place to be looked after. Between the thoughtful staff, the gourmet catering, and the top-tier bath facilities, Spa Shiosai offers the perfect balance of tradition and comfort. Highly recommended!
GGuest UserThe hotel is close to the coast, where you can easily see the Sea of Okhotsk (depending on which level & direction). A convenience store is located across the road. Parking is right at the doorstep, and plenty of lots are available. The onsen is spacious enough not to feel packed even though several bathers were within.
GGuest UserVery good, nice people, great view, nice room! It is recommended to book two nights to relax! The most amazing thing is opening the balcony door! From that moment on, you feel that taking a taxi is really worth it.
GGuest UserFor a B&B hotel, there are restrictions on check-in and front desk coffee hours, the hot spring pool is relatively small, dinner and breakfast are Japanese style, the products are relatively ordinary, and the sashimi is not fresh enough. You can pick up at the hotel for ice rafting and five lakes hiking.
