Lumley Castle Hotel

The drive up to the castle was was fantastic as the view of the castle looked stunning. The entrance to the court yard for parking was quaint and inviting. The look of the court yard looking at all the out buildings looked inviting and very well presented. The “stocks” make for great entertainment The entrance to the reception is like looking for the secret door but the plaque at the side with history information explains why and is interesting to read. Inside the reception is is quite dark but this for me added to the ambience of the place. The staff where welcoming, polite and explained the hotel set up. We stayed in one of the room in the courtyard which was beautiful. Very nicely decorated and good value for money. The room was cozy. We’d booked to have a meal in the Knights Restaurant and we had pre drinks in the bar first The walk to the restaurant through the corridor into the central courtyard was very different yet beautiful. It’s so old and it was nice to see it was decorated and kept within “keeping” The bar again was inviting and cosy and it was great to see that the drinks and wine list was very reasonably priced. So often places know you are a target audience and inflate the prices ridiculously however in our opinion the castle had not done this. There was a good choice of cocktails and the “smoked” cocktails added that something a little bit different and we didn’t mind paying a few pounds more for the “quirkiness”. Again the staff where very professional, friendly and well presented. The walk from the bar/lounge area to the Knights Restaurant was stunning through the corridors of the castle and past a lovely looking staircase and when we walked into the restaurant I was overwhelmed as it was stunning and not what I was expecting. The arched ceiling, the lighting, the privacy of how the tables where set out we felt was very nice. We thought it all created a romantic setting. It was very secluded but included. The menu choice was good and the food was beautiful. The service was great too and again the staff were very professional, polite and very well presented. The prices on the menu varied so I would say they’d catered fo most people’s budget and it was your own choice on how much you spend Our nights sleep was comfortable and the walk back from the restaurant to the courtyard was well lit but again in keeping with been in a castle environment. Great use of mood lighting. My husband even went into the stocks on the was home (🤣) Breakfast the next morning again did not disappoint. The selection was fantastic and plenty of food to choice from Overall we can can not fault our experience. It was a lively venue with great facilities and very well presented. The staff where Courteous, polite, friendly and very well presented. I would recommend this as a place to go and stay. We must go back so we can stay in one of the castle rooms as I am sure they would be as good and maybe even more “quirkier” than the courtyard rooms which were very nice.

Good value if you stay for 7 plus nights on a long stay rate. Was happy with the size and facilities in my Queen room, however it was very hot and the aircon didn't work. The hotel is set in different (linked)buildings and one of the buildings was noticeably hotter both times I've stayed there in April and May. Both times the hotel upgraded me to a room on the riverside which is much cooler (with working air con) and with a view of the river. The housekeeping staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Lots of choice for breakfast and buffet kept topped up. Really enjoyed my stay - both times. Great location too!
Cbh Hardwick Hall Hotel

More like a club 18-30 experience. The hotel was fantastic, food excellent and staff went way, way beyond. However, the main function of a hotel is to have somewhere to sleep. The hotel had two weddings on the night of my stay and between 12:45 and 14:30 I was unable to sleep for the screaming, laughing, partying that was going on throughout the corridors. I never heard any staff trying to resolve the situation, just plenty of noise. I had to pay £20 surcharge for my dogs to stay and they were not allowed In the restaurant - which is very reasonable, but have to say that they were better behaved that the other animals who were not required to pay any surcharge or not required to follow any basic behavioural rules. On checkout, I was not even asked if I had a pleasant stay. I assume the staff did not want confirmation of their mismanagement. If this is the sort of establishment used but Trip.com, then I can only say first impressions go a long way and I will stick to other hotel brokers in future.
Cbh Ramside Hotel Golf Spa Durham

We have had an absolutely amazing stay at Ramside to celebrate my 50th Birthday. We stayed in a treehouse which was utterly superb and took my breath away!! Beautiful interiors and furnishings along with wonderful outdoor area with your own hot tub and sauna...a truly wonderful experience. The service is second to none. The concierge was literally on tap to take you to and from the main hotel. Nothing was ever a problem. The main Spa pool had plenty of seating and limitless supply of towels, robes and flip flops to make you relaxed and comfortable. The Fusion Restaurant was fabulous too. 9 of us ate at the restaurant, the food was served piping hot in beautiful Asian inspired bowls and plates and looked utterly mouthwatering and tasted delicious, we couldn't fault it....The cocktails are gorgeous too I can highly recommend the strawberry breeze for any gin lovers out there! Wow!! A huge thank you, to the wonderful dedicated staff at Ramside, for making our weekend just perfect and one to remember...We will be back!!

We stayed for one night and to be fair that was enough. On arrival we were able to leave our car in the car park as too early to check in. There was no charge for the car park. There was a bus stop directly across the road a very regular number 7 bus took you into their lovely town with plenty of lovely shops, restaurants, bars and family run coffee shops. Check in was good and we found our room quickly. We were on the ground floor. Our room over looked the back garden which was very run down and in urgent need of a re vamp. Old garden furniture, wood work dropping to pieces and dead plants and weeds. Someone obviously had smoked in the room we stayed in as there were cigarette ends outside on the floor! Room was old but clean with kettle tea/coffee/biscuits. The hairdryer was old and made a terrible noise so I used the one I took. Basic complimentary toiletries in the bathroom and the shower was over the bath. We decided to have an hour in the pool area which was nice and relaxing. We used the steam and sauna areas. Small but hot as it should be. Descent changing rooms with showers and chairs around the pool side. The hydrotherapy pool was not working which was a shame. The pool receptionist was very friendly. During our stay there was a group of rugby players which were loud and in appropriate deciding to roll all over the floor in reception and drop their shorts for all to see. A very unpleasant experience. There is a small bar which serves the usual and to be fair around the same price of town. Now to breakfast. It was poor. On arrival we were told we could sit where we wanted. We sat on a table for 2. There was no cutlery and the table required cleaning before we could sit down. The only branded cereal was weetabix. There were bran flakes corflakes and coco pops No yogurts, pastries or fresh fruit and the toast was the cheapest looking. There was warm orange and apple juice. We ordered a full English which was poor. The bacon was fatty sausage well over cooked and the black pudding was a solid block. There was a small half a tomato and mushroom which were very greasy . The hash brown and beans were good and hot. There was tea and coffee which were served in pots which was good. The poor waiting staff really didn’t look happy to be at work. Checkout was quick and easy. Overall hotel in need of a complete re vamp, food was only average at best. However in a great location for exploring Yarm. Will definitely return to yarm but maybe not this hotel.
Best Western the Grand Hotel Hartlepool

The building has been recently renovated so all areas seem to be smart and clean although the character of the original building remains. There is parking in dedicated spaces, or in an adjacent lot but at evenings and weekends only. The rooms are quiet and have all the facilities you will need. On the ground floor there is a lively bar which seems popular but I didnt hear any noise. The hotel is in the town centre so there are plenty of shops and bars in the local area. The inclusive Breakfast gave a great spread of hot and cold choices but coffee drinkers should bring their own sachets for a drinkable brew! Overall, a very pleasant 2 nights.
Radisson Blu Hotel, Durham

Enjoyed experience. Took advantage of a paid for upgrade and the room was excellent. Generally, the upgrades were great (free parking), however, as part of the upgrade we got drink vouchers (6 x drinks per couple over two days). This was a bit footery as the choice of drinks was very limited (either bottled beer or glass of certain wines). I prefer draught beer and my wife doesn't partucularly like wine so we struggled what to choose. Buffet breakfasts are either hit or miss and on this occasion our experience was plenty of choice but the hot Buffet was luke warm at best. That said it is a really good hotel in a great location and catered for all our needs

Excellent modern room that was exceptionally clean , the staff are fantastic, we stayed two nights here whilst visiting the Beamish Museum. If you have paid for bed and breakfast the breakfast is served in the Rangos Restaurant which is operated as a separate business but within the hotel building . The breakfast was absolutely excellent, we booked a Saturday evening meal at Rangos , again the food and Rangos staff along with the menu pricing are excellent . Great hotel already planning a revisit back to the Beamish Museum so we will be rebooking at this hotel again which would be our fourth time , many thanks too all .

This is a great place to stay! The staff are very kind and helpful, the rooms are wonderful - lots of power points in useful places! - and the location is lovely, close to the railway station, a short walk into the centre and some beautiful riverside walks. I’ll definitely be back.
