I used this hotel for an overnight stay after a business trip where I had to park my car nearby due to snow. It's conveniently located close to the Shinkansen station. As I mentioned in my previous review, the amenities are good, the toilet is clean with a washlet, and the room is spacious. For a business traveler who just needs a place to sleep, considering the price, I think this is an excellent hotel. If I had the same opportunity at the same price, I would definitely stay here again.
Awesome hotel located just 5-10mins walk behind FamilyMart ie opposite the TAKAYAMA NOHI Bus Stn & JR. The check in was easy & front desk staff was very professional ensuring the process was easy & swift! The hotel has a great & large Hot Spring and outdoor Rotenburo Onsen they’re segregated Men-Women. The onsen lobby has large lounge space to relax, free ice cream and a large full length glass window overlooking you may sit on chairs & coin operated massage chairs enjoying the beautiful town and fabulous snow capped mountains at the edge of the town in the day & sunrise!!
The morning Japanese breakfast options are plentiful, staffs are helpful and friendly too! To walk to the Old Houses District perhaps only take 15mins leisure walk but gets really quiet & dark by 6PM in March!
While planning my Nagoya trip, I found this hotel on the way from Takayama to Suzuka. The price was great, and the room met my expectations. The most appealing part was the free and spacious parking lot, which is perfect for a road trip.
This was my second stay at the Washington Hotel in Takayama, and I'll start with the pros. It's incredibly convenient, located directly across from Takayama Station and the Nohi Bus Center. From the platform, it's less than a 50-meter walk to the hotel lobby, which is super handy. For travelers catching early buses to Shirakawa-go, Kamikochi, or Furukawa (especially recommended during cherry blossom season), this location is a huge advantage. All the nearby attractions are within walking distance, and the drugstore, restaurants, and specialty shops next to the hotel are among the last to close in Takayama. This is a big deal because many restaurants and shops in Takayama are quite particular, operating only four or five hours (or even just two or three) a day and often closing three or four days a week. Some restaurants even stop taking customers by 6 or 7 PM. We joked that at night, Takayama is full of 'hungry ghosts' wandering around! The hotel's toothbrushes are still the 'old style' and are much better than those in many other hotels. The triple room layout was well-designed and felt spacious when organized properly. The shower had good pressure and was very comfortable. What needs improvement is the shower curtain – it's too thin, so the strong shower spray easily splashes outside the tub. The breakfast is only a Japanese set meal. I tried it one day, and the taste was just so-so. I skipped it the second day, and it was still the same on the third, so I decided not to eat it again. The breakfast options are too limited; it looks good but doesn't taste great. Other hotel services were still good. The triple room had two trash cans, which shows thoughtful attention to detail. The overall bathroom facilities felt a bit old, and the extractor fan wasn't very powerful... Oh, and the hotel offers a hot spring ♨️ with pretty long opening hours, but I didn't get to try it, so I can't comment. All in all, for this price, being able to stay in such an extremely convenient, central location near the station (and commercial center) is definitely worth it. On a side note, I'm not sure if it's due to an economic downturn or the off-season, but Shirakawa-go and Takayama were noticeably less fun, less interesting to explore, and had fewer good shopping and dining options than my previous two visits. 'Travel early!' is truly not an empty phrase.
The hotel room is spacious, cleanliness is good. Though the staff are young, they are very cheerful and helpful. First time experience to leave the shoes in the lobby locker, quite happy that the whole area is free from dust as no one can wear shoes inside. There has 3 free car parks around the hotel area for you to choose. Good location for visiting Magome-juku. Has a bundle of restaurants nearby with a nice cafe eating traditional toast. All toiletries are available at the lobby area. Worth to stay again.
The rooms were quite new, the service was good, and most importantly, it was great value for money. The location is also in the heart of the city. I highly recommend staying here; you can even book a private hot spring for an extra fee, which was a wonderful experience.
They offer free taxi and bus shuttle services from JR Station. The check-in process was smooth and thorough, with all necessary information provided. The hot springs were clean and well-equipped. Breakfast was plentiful, and the special pudding was delicious! Overall, a great stay.
Located in proximity to the Gifu Station and surrounded by convenience shops and restaurants. The room was quite good, though some surfaces there were dusty and the drinking cups weren’t properly washed. Clean towels and water bottles were supplied every day. The staff was helpful and friendly.
I forgot to take pictures of the hotel.
I stayed on the first floor, which was super convenient as I had a lot of luggage. The hotel interior was incredibly clean and felt fresh — excellent! The room was stylish, and the bed was large – absolutely no complaints.
There was a hot spring right next door, and I wish I had gone there. This time, I came for snowboarding and drove from Meiho Ski Resort. So, I looked for a hot spring on the way back and ended up at Kamihonoyu. That hot spring was also fantastic, highly recommended!
It's a bit of a walk, but there was a yakiniku place nearby where we had dinner. Right next to it was a Chinese restaurant, and I was really torn, so next time I go, I want to try the Chinese place. It felt like a local spot and was bustling with customers, so I bet it's delicious!
It's a bit far from the ski resort, but I got a great deal on the stay, so I'd love to come back if I get the chance!

GGuest UserThe location is great, right next to the station. On the day we checked in, we only waited five minutes in line at noon to eat at Ajikura Tengoku. In the afternoon, we took a taxi to Hida no Sato around 5 PM, and at 6:30 PM, we took a taxi directly to Maruaki, where we only waited about 20 minutes to get a table. It wasn't as exaggerated as some posts on Xiaohongshu (a Chinese social media platform) made it out to be.
The hotel room was a bit small, but the breakfast was decent.
Overall, there's no real need to stay a night in Takayama; you can just go straight to Hirayu.
Both Maruaki and Ajikura were delicious. I highly recommend ordering the most affordable Hida lean meat directly, skipping the set menus, and don't bother with A5. We even had Maruaki again in Nagoya, ordering 6 plates of lean meat and 3 plates of beef tongue. It was a very satisfying meal.
XxcmttGreat location, within walking distance to many restaurants. They have their own paid parking, which is convenient for those traveling by car. The hot spring views must be beautiful during the day, and the facilities are very complete. Overall, a great experience!
EelowThe hotel room is pretty big by Japan standards, and the feeling of the hotel is really grand! Lots of locals were staying there, but the rooms are a little bit dated. The toilet lights were quite dim and the bathrooms could use an update. However, everything worked perfectly and the stay was still extremely enjoyable!
The hotel is situated right next to a bus stop so that makes things super convenient! There’s also a family mart behind the hotel (shortcut! go out of the main door, turn right, walk down the ramp, immediately turn right and right again into the small path, go up the stairs past the hotel park, then turn left and cross the small roads, and you’ll find the konbini) The hotel also rents out bicycles to hotel guests FOC, so you can take the bike literally anywhere! We rode to the supermarket (~10 mins away) and also down by the river (10/10 recommended!) and just explored lots around!
Gifu is a lovely quiet town and we would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to experience a side of Japan that isn’t just Tokyo or Osaka.
GGuest UserThe location is the best value adding item to this hotel, they only offered limited room cleaning so it may take a while to adjust if you are international travellers. Having the microwave and washing machine in the room is another key advantage of this hotel, overall I will say this is one of the best options in Takayama. Oh they also have free water machines every floor so you can save up buying bottles from convenient stores.
LLee JohnnieOne of the most unforgettable stays we’ve ever had. From the moment my family stepped through the door, we were wrapped in a warm, cosy ambience that instantly made us feel at ease. The room was impeccably clean and wonderfully comfortable, offering the perfect space to relax and unwind. Both dinner and breakfast were nothing short of exceptional—each meal thoughtfully prepared and absolutely delightful. The onsen, overlooking a serene river view, was the true highlight, creating a tranquil and almost dreamlike experience. Every moment spent there felt precious and completely worthwhile.
MM60550****Environment and Service: The hotel is quite large and relatively new, with a big courtyard perfect for a stroll. There's also a shuttle service to and from the station. The only minor drawback is that rooms on one side face the train tracks, which can be a bit noisy, and the soundproofing isn't great.
GGuest UserIt’s a huge hotel, location is slightly away from the town centre so need a bit of walking over the bridge whenever you go out. Onsen is good, with few choices in each building. Room is huge and bed is comfortable.
Breakfast is average and busy due to the large number of guests. More suited for families rather than solo travelers who prefer a quiet stay. Staff were helpful and professional.
SSuzhiなrenEvery year at the end of the year, I visit Takayama, mainly to see the snow scenery in Shirakawa-go, and this hotel has pretty much become my go-to choice. What I love most is the service; the staff are all incredibly warm and attentive, making for a very comfortable stay. Plus, you can book a private onsen, which is wonderfully quiet and relaxing – a real highlight of the trip. Last year, the room I stayed in had a beautiful Japanese tatami area, which really added to the traditional Japanese ambiance. It's a shame I couldn't book that room type this time; it seems they no longer have it, which is a bit disappointing. Nevertheless, the overall experience was still excellent, and I'll likely choose to stay here again next time I'm in Takayama.
