Ravana Range was a pretty good stay. My favorite thing was the view. It’s way up on a hill surrounded by majestic mountains in all directions. While it seems far away from the city area, there is a quick short cut to get down to the street with restaurants and shops. The property itself is charming, but could use some updates. The room setup does not make full spatial sense and I saw some mildew and mold in various areas. The property is lovely otherwise. The staff is very kind and attentive. One problem that I noticed (that is not the hotel’s fault) is there was a very strong rotting trash smell that came up to the hotel. While we had this gorgeous view on their decks, I almost always could not stay outside because of the smell. The hotel and other businesses should do their best to remedy this.
This place is incredible 😍
I don't understand the ratings because our experience at this wonderful hotel was a special treat in itself.
Everything was excellent. The nice young man who greeted us upon check-in was the one who brought our luggage up to our room. He immediately gave us his contact information and was always available. (How were we planning to get around, whether we needed a transfer. He suggested some delicious places from our list and recommended a nice restaurant.) Yes, this is an upsell, but in my opinion, these are very important things in hospitality.
Delicious and generous breakfast. The coconut pancakes were sooooo delicious; we've tried them in many other families, but here, they were amazing 😍
Breakfast on the rooftop with a wonderful view. Tea and coffee, not in mugs like everywhere else, but a kettle! It was a pleasure, thank you ☺️
The room was very large! It was spotless!
Soap, paper towels, and bottled water were provided. The room even had a fumigator, but we didn't see any insects. No ants or anything else (so far, this is the first place on the island without such neighbors).
There's a closet.
The room has a balcony and it's not hot at all (you realize this when you're coming from the coast).
The location is fantastic. A busy street is a couple of minutes' walk away, but the hotel itself is quiet. This was important to us. There are plenty of places to have a delicious lunch in the area.
The 9th Arch Bridge is a 15-minute walk away. It's 15-17 minutes to Little Adam's Peak. It's a truly wonderful place.
The squirrels chirp in the mornings. It's a local vibe, and I think I'll miss it.
Thank you for these wonderful days spent with you 💌
Our recent stay at Mandara Rosen Yala was a genuinely pleasant experience. The hotel's commitment to cleanliness was evident, and the staff were consistently helpful, making our visit thoroughly enjoyable. Breakfast each morning provided a good start to the day, while the dinner buffet was particularly impressive, offering a fabulous spread that was a highlight of our evenings.
The hotel's serene atmosphere allowed us to relax and recharge, which was much appreciated after exploring the local area. We felt welcomed and valued as guests throughout our stay, thanks to the attentive service.
If our travels bring us back to Kataragama, Mandara Rosen Yala will certainly be our hotel of choice once more. It's an establishment that promises comfort and excellent dining experiences.
I'd like to share more than just a review, but a sincere thank you for several days of absolute peace and pleasure. It wasn't a typical vacation, but a true recharge.
This villa is in a stunning location, surrounded by green hills and tea plantations!
The hotel has only two spacious rooms, both with balconies and panoramic views. Everything is clean and tidy.
There were four of us traveling, and it felt like the house was ours! It was amazing! Breakfast was prepared on time, and it was varied over both days. Large portions, everything was delicious: fruit, roti, burgers, several egg options, pancakes, and drinks to choose from.
Nearby there's a picturesque railway bridge and a restaurant serving local cuisine. The city center is a 10-minute tuk-tuk ride along the serpentine roads.
Special thanks to the hotel owner and manager, who were always ready to help, share information, and offer assistance!
We will be happy to come back again!
The ventilation window of the bathroom is directly open to the outdoors. After turning on the light at night, mosquitoes will fly in and small geckos will climb in. The room may be because it is too humid and has a smell. However, the hotel's service was very good. We went to Safari the next morning because the off-road vehicle was stuck in the mud and delayed the time. We returned to the hotel late. The hotel also called to ask if we needed to set aside our breakfast.
A pleasant stay with a beautiful terrace, but several points to improve
The hotel was very comfortable and comfortable and was very comfortable. In contrast, the space was quite restricted, and there was not really room to put our business, which made the organization a little complicated.
The bathroom was clean but the water from the shower came in a simple net, which is not ideal.
Outside, however, it was a real pleasure: a beautiful terrace, the sun, a perfect hamac to relax and enjoy the calm of nature around.
The owner and his daughter are adorable, very present, warm and helpful.
Côté rapport qualité-prix, c'est excellent pour ce qui est : simple, propre, bien situé et abordable.
However, some negative points :
– The smell of cigarettes from people smoking in the corridors can enter the room according to the wind.
– Soundlessness is very low: people are clearly heard talking and going back to the corridors at night, which can disturb sleep.
– The location is not necessarily very accessible if you are looking for a lot of comfort or space.
In general, a proper stay with exceptional reception, a pleasant terrace, a good quality-price ratio, but some improvements would make the experience more comfortable.
From the time I arrived, he was kind and I was able to stay very comfortable! Please be careful about amenities, do you have soap? I was very happy to hear that and give me water when I left. It is close to the bus stop and is recommended if you are staying at Badulla.
The hotel is on the hillside, with a good mountain view, the room bathroom is super large, the only room that is not damp in the 20 days of living in Sri Lanka, if there is air conditioning, it will be perfect.
It is more than 20 minutes' drive from Ella Town. Ella is mostly sloped . It is basically a curved path to various hotels and homestays. It is very suitable for people who want to be quarantined for a few days to live for a few days. I especially want to praise their service team. A few simple warm and friendly local boys, they really want to be good to every guest staying, thank you for the delicious breakfast.

GGuest UserHeaven on earth! Absolutely spoiled every morning with breakfast on their rooftop overlooking the famous Ella Rock. Possibly the best bedroom view I’ve ever seen. We travelled in April which is notoriously muggy and hot, but the electric fans are very powerful and kept us nice and cool in the evenings, they even have a sleep setting on them!
Couldn’t have asked for much more. 5 min TukTuk to and from town (500sr or £1.50). Or a peaceful 10 minute walk.
11/10 would recommend
TtorinessKeeping in mind this is a 3 star hotel, the positives are the rooms are big with a balcony looking out at amazing views (ours anyway), and the pool is clean and quite big also with amazing views and a concrete elephant water feature!!! The location of the hotel is pretty good too - far enough from other properties to be quiet but close enough to Ella main drag that you can walk in 10-15 minutes or pay a tuk tuk driver double the rate of Colombo to get to and from. The big negative for us was that despite being told upon checking in that the room would be cleaned every day, it was not. And I was told the reason why was that we didn’t hand in our key for it to be done - which seems bizarre after staying in hotels for decades and not being told to or having to hand in a key in order to get a standard daily room clean. The insinuation that it was our fault for not handing in a key (not that we were told to do so on checking in) was extremely irritating. Food was ok but overpriced so we ate elsewhere (lots of options). There were lots of little things in the rooms that could be easily addressed to make them nicer - definitely not having ripped old bath towels, and removing an empty TV bracket from the wall (like a TV used to be there but not anymore - or was it just our room, who knows). All these little things add up to I really think the room rate is too high - but we are here in the high season so maybe that’s just the going rate.

JJumpdaisukeI often asked for sandwiches at 6am, but the front desk didn't inform the kitchen, so I was in a hurry. However, the kitchen staff made them efficiently and prepared a delicious sandwich in 5 minutes. I am grateful. The location is a very narrow and steep slope, so I think it's not good for a big car, but I think that heavy people can't climb it. It's a perfect location because it's a 5-minute walk to the chill restaurant. I definitely recommend getting a room with a view, not the mountain river.

One thing which can make more effective is WhatsApp service. WhatsApp will speed up things. Service was prompt if you have a Srilanka number over phone call.
JJimmysandwichesWe had a lovely stay at Ella Rawana Den Hotel in Ella. The location is excellent — just a short walk to town, making it very convenient for restaurants, cafes and exploring the area. One of the highlights was the beautiful balcony view overlooking the lush green hills. It was the perfect place to relax in the morning or evening.
The room was big, clean and comfortable, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming throughout our stay.
However, it’s important for older guests or anyone with mobility issues to know that the hotel is located up a very steep hill. Cars and tuk-tuks cannot access the property directly, so you need to walk up, which can be challenging — especially with heavy luggage. Because of this, it may not be suitable for elderly or disabled travellers.
One small improvement would be for the hotel to provide a hairdryer in the rooms, as this would be very helpful for female guests.
Overall, a great stay with beautiful views and kind staff — just be prepared for the steep climb!

CCeleste WongMahoora should put a more prominent sign by the road for drivers to locate the venue. We had difficulty locating the site. Other than that, everything else including services were excellent. The tent was huge and spacious with 2 big standing fans in it. We don't feel hot at all. Great comfortable beds, nice warm shower, toilet bowl, basin with mirror all available in the tent. I felt more comfortable at this glamping than at the 4* hotel. Woke up to the sound of different birds call. Our breakfast and dinner were sumptuous and delicious. Great experience. Even my 6yo enjoyed it. The safari drive was nice and view was beautiful where we managed to see quite a few animals. Will come back again.
