Its positioning works as an ideal base for urban exploration. Head north and you’ll find the refined charm of the heritage district; head south and you step straight into the vibrant pulse of the city center. The hotel embraces an Urban Chic concept, deliberately doing away with traditional heavy carpeting—a smart choice in a tropical climate, as it helps reduce mustiness and allergens. Instead, modern hard flooring and bright lighting create a space that feels noticeably fresher and cleaner, both visually and physically, compared to older Peranakan-style hotels in the same price range. Rooms here tend to be on the smaller side. For two guests traveling with large luggage, the space can feel a bit tight. It’s best suited for travelers who spend most of their day বাইরে exploring and simply want a comfortable place to rest at night—think light packers or efficiency-focused “urban explorers.” At roughly RM250 per night, Loop on Leith delivers a boutique-like aesthetic and standardized service at a budget hotel price point. The value-for-money and overall sense of comfort are impressive. It lacks the heavy, sometimes oppressive atmosphere of heritage buildings, and also avoids the blandness of chain hotels. This makes it especially appealing to young couples, solo travelers, or business visitors. If you’re looking for a spacious executive suite, this may not be the right choice. But if your priorities are efficiency, cleanliness, and stepping straight into great food and scenery the moment you walk out, it stands out as a smart option in George Town’s mid-range market. For an even better stay, consider requesting a higher-floor room—it offers a slightly more open view and helps buffer early morning street noise from passing motorcycles.

Extremely satisfied! First off, the location is superb. All the famous attractions on Mural Street are nearby and within walking distance. There are also plenty of great food options around! The hotel front desk staff were incredibly professional, patient, detailed, and thoughtful. There were even staff members who spoke Chinese, and we received welcome drinks, which was a very kind and friendly gesture! Huge thumbs up to the hotel! I'll definitely stay here again next time I visit! I'll recommend this place to my friends and family.

Definitely like the bath tub! And also the sauna and jacuzzi, it was separate by gender and even have a locker room to store your belongings. Was convenient go to the gurney bay, can just cross the traffic line to walk and enjoy the chill breeze. Around there a lot of choice for food and places to be chill around. Will choose this hotel for the next visit

The hotel's location is great, within walking distance to all attractions in the center of Georgetown. The rooms are clean and tidy, but the breakfast selection isn't very rich. The front desk staff could be a bit more enthusiastic. Parking can be a bit tight; if you come back late, you might struggle to find a spot. Otherwise, everything else was quite good.

Excellent, excellent, excellent! The facilities are complete and well-equipped, the environment is elegant, and the service is attentive. The surrounding amenities are also comprehensive. The front desk service was thoughtful and meticulous, and the breakfast was clean, hygienic, and plentiful. Uh.

I was upgraded to a Deluxe room but it was at the extreme corner next to the service staircase. Grateful for the upgraded but the room conditions were not up to par . Hair in shower room , the shower holder fell when I was taking it out and it dropped on my toe . Hence the blue black toe shown ( hehe ) . I could not sleep the whole night as the air con was very very noisy even when I lower the adjustment. The day curtain was torn . I sound it out to reception the next morning to see whether they can change my room as I was staying for another 2 nights . They did and I reckoned it was another up grade as now the room has a standing shower room . In the other previous room , you have to stand in the bath tub to shower and for a man of 65 , it is a bit tricky . The hotel really needs an up grade too . It is in a good location and CAT bus is nearby . The CAT shuttle is a complimentary bus that moves around the town area . The saving grace for my trip was that the staff was up to par and reacted quickly . Well done on this . Now , I wait for my toe to heal .

The room space was perfect, unfortunate was not very perfect in the cleanliness and maintenace expect. 1. Curtkain not able to fully close 2. The flooring need to do major maintenance 3. Toilet bowl base badly stain 3. Shower room wall stain badly 4. Room tables and wall skirting need new paint. Room rate book for this room is not what expected

• The Hotel: The hotel is easy access from main road. The building is conjoined with michelin restaurant (same entrance in lobby). • The room: I arrived an hour early and the staff offer earlier checkin since my room was ready, how amazing! The room was enough for 1 person and there's a designated space for luggage so it didn't block the way / on the floor. Clean and well maintained. Basic amenities were met. Hot/Cold water works (just need time to warm up). Window can be open for air movement. I didn't have breakfast service because there're SO many restaurants nearby and walking distance. • The nearby attractions: The reason I chose this hotel cause it's all walking distance from places I want to go. The famous Penang Laksa is just 5 minutes walk from the hotel! And 2 minutes walk from the hotel is Kimberley Street (famous for night market street foods). There are 1 convenience store 24/7 within 4 mins of the hotel walk. The iconic P66 Store is walking distance (7 minutes), Makan Pagi is just 10 minutes walk, and even: the famous Armenian Street is just 1km / 10 minutes slow walk away from the hotel. The location is just strategic for my itineraries. Overall, I enjoy my stay and if I visit Penang again, definitely will stay here. It's safe for female solo travelers. Notes: 1) Like others pointed out, there's no concierge and trolley service so you gotta drag your suitcases. Entrance access is wheelchair friendly too! 2) There're 100 MYR deposit, to be returned when you checkout (don't lose the paper receipt!)

If you want convenience to good food such as Burung Hantu Nasi Lemak or Chowrasta Market for wonderful local food, then you should stay at St Giles. The room was airy and clean. Pillows were great as we slept well. The only flaw was the mini fridge wasn’t clean but generally a good stay for four days. Staff was also helpful and we also loaned an umbrella from the concierge. Free parking for those who intend to drive.

Recently we stayed at Mercure Penang Beach and had an enjoyable experience overall. The cleanliness of the room was satisfactory, and the general tidiness was acceptable. However, the hotel could improve the condition and maintenance of the carpets and flooring to enhance the overall guest experience. The amenities provided were adequate and met basic expectations. One aspect that stood out was the room service team, who delivered excellent service throughout my stay. Kudos to the staff for their professionalism and responsiveness. The room TV setup could be improved. Many modern hotels now offer Google TV or Android TV, which provide a better entertainment experience and more viewing options for guests. The swimming pool is great for children and families. However, I would suggest relocating the shower area closer to the pool entrance. Currently, it is located quite far away, which may discourage guests from showering before entering the pool. One of the hotel’s biggest advantages is its location. Guests have direct access to the beach, making it an excellent choice for beach activities and seaside relaxation. The breakfast selection was impressive, offering a wide variety of choices. The food was also tasty and enjoyable, making breakfast one of the highlights of the stay. The main area that requires improvement is the parking facility, which could be better organized and more convenient for guests. Overall, Mercure Penang Beach offers a pleasant stay with excellent room service, a good family-friendly pool, direct beach access, and a great breakfast spread. With improvements to the TV system, pool shower location, flooring condition, and parking facilities, the guest experience could be even better.
