The hotel embraces an Urban Chic concept, deliberately doing away with traditional heavy carpeting—a smart choice in a tropical climate, as it helps reduce mustiness and allergens. Instead, modern hard flooring and bright lighting create a space that feels noticeably fresher and cleaner, both visually and physically, compared to older Peranakan-style hotels in the same price range. Rooms here tend to be on the smaller side. For two guests traveling with large luggage, the space can feel a bit tight. It’s best suited for travelers who spend most of their day বাইরে exploring and simply want a comfortable place to rest at night—think light packers or efficiency-focused “urban explorers.” At roughly RM250 per night, Loop on Leith delivers a boutique-like aesthetic and standardized service at a budget hotel price point. The value-for-money and overall sense of comfort are impressive. It lacks the heavy, sometimes oppressive atmosphere of heritage buildings, and also avoids the blandness of chain hotels. This makes it especially appealing to young couples, solo travelers, or business visitors. If you’re looking for a spacious executive suite, this may not be the right choice. But if your priorities are efficiency, cleanliness, and stepping straight into great food and scenery the moment you walk out, it stands out as a smart option in George Town’s mid-range market. For an even better stay, consider requesting a higher-floor room—it offers a slightly more open view and helps buffer early morning street noise from passing motorcycles.

First, the cons: The hotel is a bit old, and the decor is quite retro. They don't provide bottled water, but there are empty bottles you can use to fetch drinking water from the hallway. This was actually very inconvenient; during my whole stay in Penang, I ended up buying bottled water from 7-11 or FamilyMart. Now for the pros: The room was very clean, which meets my core requirement for a hotel stay. An unexpected surprise was that my room had an incredible, unbeatable sea view – it was beautiful and instantly therapeutic. The location is also very convenient; you can basically walk to all the attractions in George Town.

Everything about this hotel was great. We booked a sea view room and the view from the window was absolutely stunning. Just cross the road downstairs and you're at the beach. There are also many snack bars downstairs. The staff were very warm and responsible, always diligently resolving any issues we had. When we checked out, we accidentally left something behind in the hotel and didn't realize it. The hotel even sent an email to inquire about it and safely kept our belongings. It was a fantastic experience overall!

Very convenient location, within walking distance to KOMTAR. The room is simple but clean and comfortable. There are plenty of food options nearby, so you’ll never run out of places to explore and eat. It’s easy to find, which makes check-in hassle-free. I especially love that they provide laundry service for every guest staying here , such a thoughtful and practical touch. One night entitle to one wash

The hotel's location is decent, and the building itself is impressive. The lobby service was good; we arrived in the morning, and while early check-in wasn't an option for most, we were able to store our luggage and head out to explore. The room size was acceptable, and it was kept clean. The Wi-Fi speed was a bit slow, but housekeeping did a great job every day. There's a lively night market right downstairs, bustling every night except Wednesdays. It's about a 15-minute walk to the Mural Street. Breakfast was fine, and the restaurant staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. During our stay, there was some exterior renovation happening, which the hotel informed us about in advance. However, the most annoying issue was the highly unstable water supply during those days. We occasionally had no hot water during the day, and sometimes even a complete water cutoff. When the water did return, it was very yellow. On the evening of the 23rd, there was no hot water at all, and we had to wait until 11:30 PM for a hot shower. This was the biggest flaw of our stay, and I hope the hotel addresses and improves this.

I was upgraded to a Deluxe room but it was at the extreme corner next to the service staircase. Grateful for the upgraded but the room conditions were not up to par . Hair in shower room , the shower holder fell when I was taking it out and it dropped on my toe . Hence the blue black toe shown ( hehe ) . I could not sleep the whole night as the air con was very very noisy even when I lower the adjustment. The day curtain was torn . I sound it out to reception the next morning to see whether they can change my room as I was staying for another 2 nights . They did and I reckoned it was another up grade as now the room has a standing shower room . In the other previous room , you have to stand in the bath tub to shower and for a man of 65 , it is a bit tricky . The hotel really needs an up grade too . It is in a good location and CAT bus is nearby . The CAT shuttle is a complimentary bus that moves around the town area . The saving grace for my trip was that the staff was up to par and reacted quickly . Well done on this . Now , I wait for my toe to heal .

The bed was especially cozy, and I appreciated the small details like complimentary water, toiletries, and reliable Wi-Fi. Housekeeping did a great job maintaining cleanliness throughout my stay. One of the highlights was the hotel’s location, which made it easy to access nearby attractions, restaurants, and transport options. The breakfast provided was also satisfying, with a decent variety of choices to suit different tastes. There were a few minor drawbacks, such as slight noise from the hallway at times and limited parking space, but these did not significantly affect my overall stay. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient place to stay. I would definitely consider coming back in the future.

• The Hotel: The hotel is easy access from main road. The building is conjoined with michelin restaurant (same entrance in lobby). • The room: I arrived an hour early and the staff offer earlier checkin since my room was ready, how amazing! The room was enough for 1 person and there's a designated space for luggage so it didn't block the way / on the floor. Clean and well maintained. Basic amenities were met. Hot/Cold water works (just need time to warm up). Window can be open for air movement. I didn't have breakfast service because there're SO many restaurants nearby and walking distance. • The nearby attractions: The reason I chose this hotel cause it's all walking distance from places I want to go. The famous Penang Laksa is just 5 minutes walk from the hotel! And 2 minutes walk from the hotel is Kimberley Street (famous for night market street foods). There are 1 convenience store 24/7 within 4 mins of the hotel walk. The iconic P66 Store is walking distance (7 minutes), Makan Pagi is just 10 minutes walk, and even: the famous Armenian Street is just 1km / 10 minutes slow walk away from the hotel. The location is just strategic for my itineraries. Overall, I enjoy my stay and if I visit Penang again, definitely will stay here. It's safe for female solo travelers. Notes: 1) Like others pointed out, there's no concierge and trolley service so you gotta drag your suitcases. Entrance access is wheelchair friendly too! 2) There're 100 MYR deposit, to be returned when you checkout (don't lose the paper receipt!)

Although the hotel opened in 2014, the rooms' facilities and cleanliness are still very well-maintained. The shower has great water pressure, making for a very comfortable bathing experience. The pillows in the room were a bit uncomfortable for me – too high and too springy. The bed was large and the mattress was very comfortable. My room didn't come with bathrobes. It was quiet at night, and the air conditioning in the room was strong. Directly opposite the hotel is a large shopping mall, and a big supermarket is not far away. It's also within walking distance to various attractions. The infinity pool is excellent, with a good long lane for swimming. Breakfast is served from 6:30 AM to 10 AM, and the food selection is substantial and fitting for a 4-star hotel, offering everything you'd expect.

Thank you Mercure Beach Hotel for making my request come true and giving my child a birthday surprise this year. The hotel has a really beautiful sea view. The beach is well maintained even though it’s not that big. The room is clean and honestly, the pillows are the most comfortable I’ve ever slept on. Even though it’s close to the main road, the room is well soundproofed. Only downside, the water pressure is a bit low. The soap & shampoo are Made in Italy and smell really nice. I was quite surprised with the breakfast menu, this is my first time seeing a hotel serve spaghetti, and I forgot the name of the beef dish (the one in the picture), but it was really good! The food was nicely seasoned, not too salty. There’s also quite a good variety of food and drinks. Definitely will repeat again one day 👍
