WestCord Strandhotel Seeduyn
3.9/526 Reviews
We stayed at WestCord Strandhotel Seeduyn in July 2023, as a family of 4 (two adults, two pre-teen/teenage kids). First, the pros: The hotel is in a great location on Vlieland, located directly on a gorgeous stretch of beach. It's easy to get to, as you can use the island bus for free during your stay (by showing your hotel card). Breakfast was pretty good, food was fresh and tasted great (especially the croissants!!), though after a week there wasn't enough variety and the buffet got boring. We ate at the Brassery restaurant two evenings, and the food there was also very nice. Most of the staff were very pleasant, though during check-in we did not receive any information about amenities, as there was a line of people who arrived on the bus at the same time as us, and the front desk staff seemed to just want us all processed as quickly as they could. There's a ton of activities for everyone, both at the hotel, as well as the surroundings. Kids club, bowling, swimming pool, wellness center, tennis, beach activities, the list goes on. We were unlucky with the weather, so it was nice to have options to keep our kids occupied. Now for the cons: Our hotel room was not great, especially for the price we paid. We were in one of the ”Medium” apartments, which are located in the auxiliary building (next to the main hotel building, and connected with an underground tunnel). The room was smelly due to the poor ventilation (it honestly smelled like cat/dog urine on the carpet), and the kitchen was not super clean (drawers & fridge had some bits of food/crumbs in them). Bedrooms were stuffy, as there are no windows to the outside (see above ventilation issue), and beds were not particularly comfortable. We found we immediately had to open the living room windows every time we entered just to make the apartment tolerable. They say on their website that we get a discount at a local bicycle rental on the island, so we proceeded to make a reservation directly with the shop. What the WestCord website doesn't tell you is that you need to call/directly contact the hotel and have them reserve on your behalf if you want to get this discount. Notes specific for the apartments: There is no room cleaning done during your stay. They will come in and change towels occasionally (every two days or so?), and no trash removal or anything else will be done until after you leave. As others have said, there's a pretty good selection of kitchen utensils/dishes, but absolutely no extras (salt/pepper, spices, oil, coffee/tea, etc.) for cooking, so plan accordingly. It also wasn't clear what to do with the trash (we were there 1 week, and it wasn't collected, so we weren't quite sure how to sort or where to put it). TLDR: This feels like a 3* hotel in quality for 5* prices (especially during summer/peak season). It's fine for what it is, but you'd likely be better off renting a house in the dunes next door for the price, if you're looking at their apartment

The hotel was very clean, and situated in a convenient place! I really began to appreciate the lengths that folks in The Netherlands go to to keep their business operations sustainable as well. Gorgeous town with lots of friendly people. I fell in love with the place. I would definitely go again, and choose this location to stay in. The view from my room was very pretty, as well.
Van der Valk Drachten

Located in ”Draheten”, close to the bus stop of 320. The front desk is polite and welcoming and the service is very strong. The restaurant is large and quiet, and the dishes are very good. The room was clean and tidy and the view from the window was very good.
WestCord WTC Hotel Leeuwarden

Very wide and beautiful modern room with a good bed. Bad room also very wide. Only sad that there was a little sand in the bathroom. Minpoint is that it is about 20 minutes walk to Leeuwarden Center. Also there was no refrigerator in the room.
Hotel Van der Valk Wolvega-Heerenveen

Excellent hotel, on a quiet spot next to a pond, entering the lobby with a cosmopolitan touch already makes you feel happy. We had a splendid 4th floor corner room in the ‘tower’. Upgrade rooms are located in another building and have a terrace, we didn’t miss it as it was cold and the big windows with lots of view are more then convenient. Excellent bedding, big bathroom also with a window on the surrounding nature. We had a reasonable dinner in the large and fancy restaurant. Excellent breakfast.
Fletcher Hotel Restaurant Heidehof

Hotel looks really nice from the outside, surrounding grounds a nice and green. Hotel is located right next to Thialf Stadium so excellent location if you have to be there or if you want to enjoy the country side. Hotel is not near town centre, you would need to drive or cycle there. Hotel could do with some refurbishment, bathroom is old and it shows its age. Carpet and wall papers need replacing. We had both dinner and breakfast, of which the first one was ok and breakfast was good, plenty of choice for all. Hotel has free parking and electric charging stations for cars.

On the one hand, it’s very cool to be able to say we stayed in a palace. We could easily tell one of the larger meeting rooms had been a place to entertain many guests, maybe even a ballroom. The yard behind the hotel is lovely and inviting. The staff were helpful. The breakfast buffet was typical for European hotels, and we found the variety of Dutch breads, cheeses, and sprinkles a nice touch. The location in the center of town can’t be beat. Our bed was comfortable, as were the pillows. Being able to open the windows was wonderful, since we like to sleep cold. They even provided a fan that we could use both to keep the room cool and give us some white noise On the other hand—someone needs to put a lot of money and love into this place. It is in desperate need of a major facelift. We stayed on the first floor and the carpeting in the hallway was terribly stained and worn—sometimes right through to the floor. While the carpeting in our room was a tiny bit better, it looked so bad, I didn’t want to walk barefoot on it. The walls in the hall and in our room desperately need to be painted. I wouldn’t even sit on the furniture upholstered in cloth in our room. Everything was saggy and worn. I was also put off by the door locking with a key that only worked part of the time. There was no safe in the room and because we only had an old-fashioned key, we carried everything of value with us wherever we went. For quite some time, I wondered if I just didn’t have an adventurous spirit and needed to remember that perhaps standards in other parts of the world are different from what I’m used to. And yet… While having to park 500 meters away was a pain, I completely understood that Leeuwarden wasn’t constructed to accommodate parking lots near hotels. That’s simply the hotel and town’s historic roots. Would I have liked plush towels? Yes. Not a dealbreaker. But I still can’t get past how many areas hadn’t had attention for so long and what amazing potential the hotel has if someone would put some loving care into it.

Fijn hotel met ligging vlakbij het centrum. Vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel. Kamer was zeer netjes en schoon. De bedden lagen heerlijk!
Hotel 't Anker

The hotel is located in the centre and you can reach everything walking away. The information about parking at the hotel in the pedestrian zone was super notified in advance. The staff was friendly. The room equipment was very simple and came into the years. Nevertheless, everything you need was there. Breakfast was also simple. But little choice but toast, cutting, fruit and yoghurt was there. Who wants to make a great city trip and doesn't have any demands for equipment and ambience, can stay here more cheaply for Dutch conditions.
