FAQ about Domestic Flights

  • How can I find cheap domestic flights?

Trip.com offers plenty of great deals on domestic flights. To learn more, check out the Deals or Promo Code pages. Just keep in mind that discounted fares often need to be booked early—prices are usually higher if you book within a month of your departure date.
  • Some of the most well-known Indian airlines are Indigo, Air India, Akasaka Air, and Air India Express. You can also choose from smaller regional carriers that fly locally, such as Alliance Air, Star Air, and Indian Airlines.
  • Indian citizens do not need a passport for domestic flights. You can use your Aadhaar card, driving license or any other accepted ID. However, you will always need a passport for international travels.
  • LCC stands for Low-Cost Carrier—a budget airline that focuses on low fares. Popular examples include Air India Express, Akasa Air, SpiceJet, and AirAsia India. These airlines keep prices down by reducing some traditional services, such as charging for seat selection and checked bags, and by fitting more seats on each plane by reducing legroom.
  • Check-in times for India domestic flights vary by airline. It is recommended arriving at least 2 hours before your flight for check-in, baggage drop, and security. Each airline has its own cut-off time, so check with your airline if you’re unsure. Air India: 1.5 hours before departure; closes 60 minutes prior Indigo: 2 hours before departure; closes 60 minutes prior Star Air: 2 hours before departure; closes 25 minutes prior Alliance Air India: 1 hour before departure; closes 30 minutes prior
  • You can change or cancel a ticket only if the airline’s policy allows it. To do so, go to the flight bookings page, select the change or cancel option, choose the passengers and flight segment, and submit your request. Additional fees may apply depending on the airline’s rules. If your flight has been rescheduled, you can submit an involuntary cancellation request. For full details, check the airline’s customer support pages.
  • While booking: After choosing your flight and entering passenger information, you may see a ‘Seat Selection’ option on the next page. If so, you can select your seat. Please note that once you select a seat and complete your booking, it cannot be changed or canceled. After booking: For unused tickets, you can select seats by going to Flight Booking, choosing your booking, visiting the Booking Details page, and selecting Check-in & Seats.
