I recently stayed at Gurney Bay Hotel and had a wonderful experience overall. The seaview from the room was absolutely beautiful, and the buffet offered a fantastic variety of food choices. The staff at the lobby were also incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the hotel's location is highly convenient with easy access to nearby transport. The only minor downside was the room service efficiency; although the staff answered our phone calls very promptly every time we requested items, we had to call back a few times before the items were actually delivered to our room. Overall, it is a fantastic hotel, and I would definitely recommend staying here!
This hotel truly deserves a good review. I'd definitely stay here again on my next visit.
**Service:** Top-notch! The hotel knew we needed to change (Penang was so hot!), and they let us check in early at 10 AM since a room was available. Water was also delivered to our room very quickly.
**Location:** Super convenient. There's a 7-Eleven right next door and a shopping mall.
**Accommodation Experience:** I requested a standing shower room in advance, and that's exactly what I got. The bed was quite large, and the overall feeling was spacious and clean.
**Dining:** During the May Day holiday, there was about a 5-minute wait for breakfast, which was perfectly acceptable.
The check-in process was smooth and efficient. The room was spacious, clean, quiet, and comfortable, making for a pleasant stay. The only area for improvement would be the shower drainage, which appeared to have some issues during my stay. Overall, my first stay experience was satisfactory, and I enjoyed the comfort and hospitality provided.
I was upgraded to a Deluxe room but it was at the extreme corner next to the service staircase. Grateful for the upgraded but the room conditions were not up to par . Hair in shower room , the shower holder fell when I was taking it out and it dropped on my toe . Hence the blue black toe shown ( hehe ) . I could not sleep the whole night as the air con was very very noisy even when I lower the adjustment. The day curtain was torn . I sound it out to reception the next morning to see whether they can change my room as I was staying for another 2 nights . They did and I reckoned it was another up grade as now the room has a standing shower room . In the other previous room , you have to stand in the bath tub to shower and for a man of 65 , it is a bit tricky . The hotel really needs an up grade too . It is in a good location and CAT bus is nearby . The CAT shuttle is a complimentary bus that moves around the town area .
The saving grace for my trip was that the staff was up to par and reacted quickly . Well done on this .
Now , I wait for my toe to heal .
There is no sufficient space for guests drop off and pick up and for if there are two to three cars the area before hotel will be messed up and stuck together! The enclosed captured screen from goggle map is self explanatory !
Every morning commencing 8:00 am to 09:00am there will be large trolleys outside the rooms and on upper floors transferring towels and other amenities around and the sound like you are sitting by the railway while the trains are crossing which was rather annoying. You will hear staff talking or chatting together and the metallic service door slamming during that period.
Most interesting is every day the housekeeping has left souvenirs to us. The first day was a toilet brush and the second day was a cigarette lighter.
Last but not the least when we approached the concierge to get the luggages while the car was waiting just outside the hotel main door the bell boy asked my wife to move the luggages by herself and the distance was only 3 meters away!
We always stay in this hotel or the next one every time we visit Penang. As usual, beautiful and nice and clean room. We got a cake for our anniversary. Breakfast is good and not crowded like the other hotel. Best location next to 2 shopping malls. We went for seafood buffet in the other sister hotel and at senior citizen price. Fantastic offer.
Will definitely be back. We requested for late checkout because don't want to go too early to airport. They gave us 2 more hours which was fantastic.
For solo travelers like me, this place is incredibly convenient because of its excellent transportation links. All the main attractions – whether it's the beach, historic houses, restaurants, or various downtown spots – are within walking distance. I stayed here for a week and didn't need a single taxi. In the evenings, I could just stroll out to a bar or find some great food. I even made quite a few friends! The hotel's restaurant is also very good. Overall, the value for money here is exceptional.
Overall, a good and practical hotel for the price and location. Nothing too fancy, but it did what we needed it to do. Location was convenient, easy enough to move around George Town, get food, and get Grab when needed.
The part I appreciated most was the front desk/reception. We had to leave very early in the morning for our train from Butterworth, and there was also a last-minute issue with our rented bike return. Reception helped us keep the helmets and keys so the rental company could collect them later.
That kind of practical help matters when you are travelling and trying to sort things out early in the morning.
Room was okay, location was good, and the hotel was convenient for a short stay in Penang.
Not a luxury hotel, but for a simple city stay, it was reliable and useful.
Would definitely consider staying again.
I was very satisfied with my stay at the Rainbow Hotel. The hotel has a fresh and bright environment, and the rooms are well-lit, spacious, with complete and clean bathroom facilities. The surrounding transportation and dining options are very convenient, saving time and effort for sightseeing and travel. The staff were responsive and friendly. Overall, it was a perfect experience; staying here made my trip worry-free and comfortable. I highly recommend it!
This hotel is located in the heart of Penang Island, right opposite Komtar. Upon check-in, we were upgraded to a high-floor sea view room. The breakfast spread was excellent, and it's super convenient for shopping districts and the famous street art area. Penang durians, especially Musang King and Black Thorn, had just come into season and were absolutely delicious! I've stayed at a few other hotels for business trips to Penang before, but from now on, this hotel will be my go-to choice.

RRayTFirst of all the hotel rented out the rooms for individual operator.
So there will be different check in counter.
Upon check in, been told that the room card not functioning as they are doing upgrading, so every time u come back will need to call the house keeping to unlock the door.
Most importantly they charge RM 17 per night for car parking. So a lot of car parking outside which make the entrance a bit difficult
GGuest UserThe check-in process took an excessively long time, with waiting times exceeding one hour due to the large crowd. The hotel management should consider improving the check-in procedure to ensure guests do not have to wait for such an extended period.
In addition, the check-out time of 11:00 a.m. is quite early, and the hotel was unable to provide any flexibility for a slightly later check-out, despite guests having to endure a lengthy wait during check-in.
Furthermore, we found a rove beetle (commonly known as “Charlie ant”) in our hotel room, which raised concerns regarding room cleanliness and guest comfort.
Overall, we hope the hotel will take these matters into consideration and make improvements to enhance the guest experience.

GGuest UserExcellent location to delicious local food - char kway teow, hokien prawn noodles. Fried beehoon with fried fish meat (available only in the morning). Don't forget to order ambra drink. Love it!
The first shop on the left when you get out of the hotel, we ate there 3 times. Yummy
Every night the local food stalls along the street will be busy with lots of people.
The charcoal fried char kway teow's queue can be up to 1.5 hours.
They start at two pm so go early. Close on Wednesday.
Across the street from the hotel, you can buy Penang Tau sar pniah.. there is a nonya restaurant but we didn't try.
YYeyuexuangeHidden in George Town, Penang, is a century-old heritage hotel, which was the most pleasant surprise of my trip. The hotel is divided into the Heritage Wing and the Victory Annexe, both largely preserving their original historical charm. From the antique elevator to the brass key wall, every detail tells a story. Teak staircases are carved with Malaysian motifs, and the rooms feature hardwood furniture alongside Fujian blue and white tiles, creating a stylish blend of East and West. The infinity pool offers direct views of the strait, and at sunset, the orange glow reflects on the water, allowing you to fully soak in Penang's unique seaside Nanyang charm. The century-old corridors are steeped in history, having hosted notable figures like Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, and Sun Yat-sen.
JJoetan39We stayed in Ansgana wing one bedroom suite. It's born with a magnificent Seaview but unfortunately obscured by the hotel layout like the balcony concrete egde at living room and the missing of curtain binder to gain 5-10% of Seaview. The sofa and TV are setup by the window side both at the living room and bed room but during day time the sunshine is so strong that you have to draw the curtain if you want to watch TV but at the same time your completely lose the view. The breakfast buffet offered were standard and I have no comment but the only obervation is the crows are the only diehard fans of the hotel food as they tried their best effort to grab the food from the table even in front of the guests! The only element that made our stay a good one is the hotel staff. Starting from Cika who handled our check in, our room attendant Masum, the big and tall guy at the buffet restaurant and also the lady who took care of our check out. All of them were efficient and effectively attending and responding to guests needs and tried their best effort to help us during our stay and kindly send my compliment to them especially Masum. Thank you Masum you deserves to be praised. Well done! Ansgana management in reading it's your team that saved your position that still got a 5 points except the food! In conclusion Ansgana tried to pack herself as a resort but quite unsuccessful as after check out we headed to Shangri-La Rasa Sayang and you will experience the layback and relax feel in a resort!

TTaher.HWe have now completed our third and fourth days at PARKROYAL Penang Resort, and our experience has been exceptional from start to finish.
One of the highlights of our stay was the room change arranged by the hotel team. We were delighted to receive a room with a breathtaking view, and we would like to express our sincere gratitude for this thoughtful gesture. The room is spacious, comfortable, beautifully maintained, and offers a stunning outlook that made our stay even more enjoyable.
Throughout our visit, everything has exceeded our expectations. The resort is well-maintained, the facilities are excellent, and the atmosphere is both relaxing and welcoming. Every detail reflects the team’s commitment to providing a high-quality guest experience.
I would also like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the entire PARKROYAL Penang Resort team for their outstanding hospitality and genuine warmth. From the Front Office team to Housekeeping and all staff members behind the scenes, everyone has been professional, friendly, attentive, and always willing to assist with a smile.
Thank you for making our family vacation such a memorable experience. Your exceptional service and hospitality have truly stood out, and we look forward to returning in the future.
Highly recommended for families and anyone looking for a relaxing beachfront getaway in Penang.
