Oberammergau Homestays

The family-run Parkhotel Sonnenhof offers Alpine-style rooms, a well-equipped spa area and a daily breakfast buffet. It is located in Oberammergau, just 20 km from the Austrian border. All rooms at the Parkhotel Sonnenhof have a private balcony, light wooden furniture, cable TV and a modern bathroom. Free WiFi is also provided. Decorated in traditional Bavarian style, the Sonnenhof’s restaurant serves German and international food. On Thursdays and Fridays we will be happy to serve you in our restaurant Meat & More Cocktailbar in our Ludwig Residenz, which is about 200m from the hotel. During summer months, meals and drinks can be enjoyed on the terrace. The Sonnenhof offers a range of spa facilities, such as a bio sauna, steam room and an indoor pool. The ski-resort town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a 20-minute drive away.

The location in Oberammergau was extremely convenient. It was just far enough away from the city center but also close walking distance to just about anything (even the local Lidl, etc.). The hotel grounds were very nice and the staff were kind and helpful, the breakfast was very nice traditional German+ (English hot options). We stayed in one of their Family Rooms (entry foyer, living area, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms w/ master that included tub, full shower, dry sauna; master bedroom had dual vented skylights ) - the room was amazing! It was as described on the booking site and the pictures were very accurate, but it also had additional balcony space, an extra bathroom (with shower), and a shower in the main bath that we didn't expect. There were also multiple closets for clothes storage for a longer stay. Not a critique, but for those that are used to air conditioning - be aware that the room(s) do not have air conditioning - this is pretty typical in most of Germany, let alone the Bavarian Alps. This was not an issue for us as it was very pleasant weather (both day and night). We were able to keep the balcony doors open for good air flow, but in very hot weather a fan (or fans) would be welcome in the rooms to keep air flow through the spacious room! Looking back at our overall trip - had we known a bit more we probably would have shortened our stay in Munich to stay at the Aktiv Landhotel Bold additional nights and taken in the surrounding areas more and it would have been wonderful!

Hotel location is very good, is the most densely populated place, the room is upstairs and the second floor, the room temperature is very high, no air conditioning, too hot days are not suitable for living, breakfast is very good.
