Diamonds Inn

We had a lovely stay at Diamonds Inn. We booked the Standard Suite, Ensuite 3-bed room which is located at the top floor of the building. A very quaint compact en-suite family room great for a group of friends or family. All basic amenities are there including towels, shampoo and shower gels. There’s also an electric water kettle, coffee/tea, hair dryer and a small fridge! Beds are soft and comfy. Walls are thin and may hear voices of other guests in the halls during the day but was not a major issue during our stay, mostly quiet after 10pm. Location is very convenient as its only a stones throw away from one of the famous wall entrances, a pub and restaurant across and York Minster. Host was lovely and friendly as well, called to ask if we can get an early check-in and was happy to accommodate us.

At arrival we managed to get the key before the actual check in time. I called the number and the housekeeper very kindly gave me the key card and showed me how to open doors for later on. We were so lucky to have a family room even if it was just the two of us. We stayed in room 3 at ground floor. There was plenty of space and lots of tea and coffee and a small fridge as well. The bathroom is awesome, brand new with a huge shower and very clean. Only thing is the radiators in the room do not work so there is a heater. The room was quite warm but maybe it would be better to have a different heating system for winter. We like staying in Fulford because it's much quieter than the city centre. The bus stop is very close and busses run every 15 minutes. Perfect for us!

We stayed here 2 nights and really enjoyed our stay. Very friendly and helpful checkin on arrival. Our room was well equipped with everything you require for a comfortable stay and it was very quiet. Only small complaint was we had an upstairs room and it got quite hot during the day and took awhile to cool off at night. There’s a pub across the road for meals and a drink and a convenience store a short walk away. A short pleasant walk to the city with all the amazing things York has to offer. There’s a no alcohol policy in your room which has attracted some negative feedback in the past. But it’s the owners place so it’s their rules and we had no problem respecting their decision. We had a cup of tea at night instead of our glass of red. The majority of people would drink responsibly in their rooms but there’s always a few that would spoil it for everyone else and the owners have no option but to make it a blanket ban. We would definitely stay again and recommend it to anyone else.

Wonderful place to stay. Booked this lovely guest house at the last minute... And so very glad we did... Such a charming place to stay and in an ideal location for acces to everything in Pickering. The building is charming, and attention to detail, everything spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, lovely toiletries, a guest sitting room with a fridge to put your drinks in and glasses to use. The garden is lovely... It would be nice to return in warmwr weather to enjoy sitting out there. Breakfast menu was very good... Something for everyone... And was excellent. Run by a lovely, friendly couple... Just so enjoyable. Would definitely recommend this little Gem...and we definitely would love to return.

Booked here for 3 nights. Pictures on internet look fine along with most reviews. But when arrived. Greeted by jason and was told to leave bags downstairs while he checked us in. Took us in a room which was very dated and chairs were badly ripped. (This is the dining area) (Not the best first impression) but jason sorted out the parking permit for us. Then asked what we want for breakfast. Full english and we had to have the same for 3 mornings. . And time of breakfast had to be same time each morning. .Anyway got keys to rooms. Room 6 . Opened door . Room was full of dust. Had a look round and it wasnt cleaned at all. Beds weren't made properly and floor was filthy. Extension cable inbetween 2 single beds. . Wardrobe you couldnt open because it is so close to bed. Dressing table stool couldnt pull it out properly because other bed was in way. Then bathroom . It was disgusting. There were hairs on floor along with plenty of dust. Built up of grime on the shower in corners. Shower which was electric ,it was hot but not much pressure from it. We would of walked away but we were with friends who had booked it and paid up front. At breakfast we went at our set time for the door to be wedged so we couldnt get in. Anyway door opened. Couple of mins later. Toast already on table which was stone cold. with coffee and tea. There were another table for two and their food was on table but hadnt got gown yet. Not good. When we poured coffee it was luke warm. Told the lady and she wasnt very happy. Her response was. Cant be ive just done it . She grabbed it and walked away. She returned with another which was hot but said nothing. Kitchen door was left open and all you could here was a conversation between her and her colleague. Life stories. The kitchen didnt look the most hygienic. Luckily we only used the place to get head down. Beds were awful. Very lumpy and duvet full of bobbles. After 2 nights of having to stay we had to leave couldnt cope with another night in the place. There were lots of other things but i would be writing forever. CERTAINLY WOULD NOT BE RETURNING!!!! Please zoom in on pics.

The Old Hall Inn

Good food. Helpful friendly staff. Floorboards a bit creaky which was no problem to us but may have disturbed the downstairs room. Surprised that the twin beds seemed to be small twins (ie 2ft 6ins wide) rather than the normal 3ft width, but still comfortable.

The size of the room is adequate, with two inside and out on the top floor. It is a hotel similar to the one common in foreign countries, with a restaurant downstairs and guest rooms upstairs. The scale is not large, so it is estimated that there are seven or eight rooms. The hotel reached the city wall, which was less than ten minutes. The hotel has a special parking lot, and the service attitude of the owner is also very good. Breakfast is in the form of an English-style single order, and the quality and service are OK. Anyway, the English breakfast is almost the same.

It was a very good experience staying in the Vikings. I would definitely go stay again next time I visit to York. It took us 15 minutes walk to the city centre and there is also some cafe and shops nearby.
