On the way, donkey friends recommended a youth hostel to live in Jianshui. It's very close to the south gate of the ancient city. The owner is super friendly and greets every time we meet. The small yard is nice and cozy. It's very lively at night. Everyone sits in the yard and chats. Strolling together in the ancient city at night, there is free tea to drink when you come back. If it weren't for the epidemic, I really want to stay for a few more days. It is recommended to live here when you come to Jianshui. Those who can play with the boss and call each other brothers every day will come here again next time.

I stayed for a quick stopover in between trains - the hostel is very close to the train station and I could walk easily. The room was simple but had everything I needed and I slept really well. The highlight is the owner Winni who has been incredibly helpful and friendly. She allowed me to store luggage and helped me to pick it up again early in the morning. Very very good service :)

This hotel is more like a flat, it's in a block of flats meaning cars can't pick you up from the door, you have to walk outside of the community. The view is gorgeous and the hotel will pick you up from the railway station and guide you to your room. It's on the opposite side of the lake to the attractions, which we didn't mind as it was nice and quiet and gives you a different view of the lake. The room is decorated with a lot of tacky toys, literally Teddy bears on the bed like a child's room, if they were gone it would be nicer.

This hostel immediately make you feel warm and welcome! Close to the city center, it is easy to find and the staff is friendly (and speak English if you are a foreigner!). The hostel has a lovely lounge, rooftop and terrace where you can sit, enjoy the hostel's food and drinks (very good and affordable) and relax. I stayed in a 6-people all female dorm room, which was a little bit small but it is enough, especially since you have so many other places in the hostel where you can hang out. The bed is comfortable, the shower and toilet are outside of the room but easily accessible and clean. I had no problem with using the washing machine and dryer provided either. I only stayed one night but the hostel made me wish I had planned more time in Kunming! I will definitely book here again if I go back to Kunming.

Nice place to stay for one night after the hiking. Directly on the end of the hiking tour. Food was good and they organised a bus which brought us back to Lijiang. We enjoyed the time. If you take a hot shower just give it some minutes for getting hot :)

The boss is super enthusiastic and the explanation is in place. Airport pick-up service is also provided. Make an appointment one day in advance, and the driver will contact the pick-up station. My second excellent stay at a Desti hostel. The building itself had a very cool design and I imagine it would be a very lively place to stay during the peak season. The dorm and bathroom were very clean like in the other Desti I stayed in. The kids at reception were so nice and helped me book tickets that otherwise would have been very difficult to book as a non-Chinese speaker. The hostel is not in Lijiang proper, it is in a different old Town that is also very nice and quieter than Lijiang. It is about a 20 minute drive from Lijiang Old Town. Many buses to the various attractions leave from Lijiang, so you need to factor that driving time into your planning.

First of all, I would like to thank Auntie and Zhenzhen for cooking here. It is really delicious and the meal is only 20 yuan, which is great value. I am very satisfied every night. This hostel was one of the best I have experienced in 4 months Asia. The bed was like sleeping in a cloud, everything was very clean and luxurious like a hotel. The girls at the reception were all extremely nice and helpful, food in the hostel restaurant was good. It’s a 20-30 min walk to one pedestrian shopping area, and 12 minutes walk to the metro station so very convenient. I would definitely recommend this place!
