Santiago Guesthouse Kyoto

It was just a normal Guesthouse... The stairs were a bit hard to handle with a large bag but not impossible to get up. The toilets on the floor of the room reused the water from washing your hands for the next flush however therewas no soap... The showers are on the second floor and are not separated by gender... The common areas were spacious enough and had a nice window front.

The concept of this hostel is great - something better and more inclusive than a capsule hotel with large, comfortable beds. Pros: The common area and kitchen were really nice, and the free beer hour provided a great way to connect with other travelers. The common area has huge windows looking onto downtown Kyoto. The staff were all super friendly and helpful and spoke English. You are given a keycard for access to the bed floors and after hours. You need to reserve breakfast the day before, but it's right next to St Marcs Cafe which I thought was a great option, so IMO you don't need to use the hostel's breakfast. The showers were good, and I never saw them full despite a lot of people staying here at this time. The laundry machine seemed easy to use as well. The location in downtown Kyoto is obviously great and close to bus stops to reach popular temples on the east side. Cons: The only problem I faced was that the iPod to control my bed and lights rarely worked! The first night, I was unable to recline the bed into sleeping mode or turn off the lights, so staff had to come reset something on top of the pod to get it to connect. It stopped working again after that, and I could not turn the lights on in the morning. I also did not get to use the special wake-up features. Because my stay was only a few days and I wasn't spending leisure time in the pod, I decided to just deal with the unlit pod. Also, I was the only person who I spoke with who had this issue. But the hotel should improve the engineering of the iPod controllers or provide backup physical controls on the side. This wasn't an issue for me, but my medium-sized suitcase would not fit in the pull-out luggage rack under the bed. I had to keep the suitcase closed and on its side between the luggage rack and the screen. I don't think that travelers with large suitcases would be able to fit them in the pod, you'd probably have to find an empty corner in the hallway. Overall, I would recommend staying here, just hope you aren't the unlucky one who gets assigned to a broken pod.

Been here once in 2015 during my solo trip. After staying here , I feel that I must bring my family here someday. And I did! My family of 5, 2 A and 3C aged 13,10&9 stayed in the Japanese style room from 09-11 June. It's off peak timing so not many ppl are staying here. We get to enjoy the peace and quiet. What's good abt this hostel ? Cleanliness is at its best. The shared bathroom, toilets areas are in top notch cleanliness. You can't find in other youth hostel. The communal onsen area is well maintained and clean. Everyone who use the area has the responsibility to keep it clean and tidy. And am glad that everyone is doing it well. Everyday between 10am to 3pm, u cannot stay in your room as the staff has to clean your room. Common area: kitchen and living area is shared and very cosy place for us to hang around. U can rent games like Uno, jenga from the front desk for free to play with your family. There is also an outdoor balcony area where u can just sit there and enjoy the breeze. The whole compound is at a residential area. So it's serene , peaceful and quiet. A very zen place. I was originally afraid that my kids who are city kids would be bored here... But they actually loved it. Especially making their own cup noodles dinner at the kitchen. There is no TV at the room we stayed , so we went to the kitchen area to watch TV and snack. Like all other YHA, u will be given bedsheets and pillowcase to make your bed and have to return them back to the front desk upon check out. The nearest JR station is abt 5-7mins drive away. It's so nice to come back again.

We stayed in the family suite. There were 2 beds and 3 floor mats. The beds were comfortable but the floor mats were so thin it was impossible to sleep comfortably as an adult. The room itself was very clean and had a really nice bathroom. However do not leave anything of any value in the room while you are away. We had something that was charging stolen from our room while we were out one day. We immediately noticed upon our return and alerted management. They assured us we would be compensated if they could not be found. That never happened and once we left the country, they completely changed their tone and refused to do anything. There is not a safe in the room so just take it all with you!

Very pleased with the level of care put into this hostel. All rooms are extremely clean, and the beds are comfortable and quiet. Despite the rooms holding up to around 15-20 people, it is extremely quiet and the bed pods are dark. Shower area was extremely clean and we were provided fresh towels every day. There is a comfortable sitting area with free coffee and access to Netflix. We had a very comfortable stay here and I would come back !
K's House Kyoto -Travelers Hostel

The location is very good - ten minutes walk from the train station. A bonus is its proximity to Higashi Honganji temple and its detached garden Shosei-en. The hostel itself is very well set up and very well run. The facilities are excellent - the kitchen is as good as any I have come across in a hostel in Japan. The bunk beds are comfortable. The lack of privacy curtains was not a problem in my stay, but with less considerate room mates it could be. The showers are very good: plenty of pressure and good temperature control. The common/dining room is spacious and comfortable but I found the piped 'cafe music' from morning to night there irritating. The desk staff were all helpful and competent, and spoke good English. The cleaning staff worked hard to keep the hostel clean, and it was reassuring to see them going around disinfecting surfaces in view of the current coronavirus epidemic. No fault of the Kyoto hostel, but booking on the K's house website is unnecessarily complicated. I found it preferable to pay more for the ease of booking.com than wrestle with K's House booking process to take advantage of their 'secret deals' (loyalty discounts).

I always use firetvstick at my travel destination, so I canceled the hotel I was scheduled to stay and booked here. I booked for two people to Queen. The room is small but beautiful. It was enough to sleep and see amapla. There is no phone to the front desk. Firetvstick lent me, but I noticed that I didn't reach the outlet without the extension code and went down to the front again. The iron is underground, but it seems that the power was weak though it was the maximum output.
Guest House Kyoto Inn

It's just so-so. It's obviously a guest house converted from a three-story building. The mixed room is really mixed for men and women. It's a six-person room with a bed curtain and two sockets. There is basically no free space in the room, and the suitcase will block the aisle. There is a Chinese front desk. There are many guests from all over the world. Shared slippers, with large sizes. There are 4 shared shower rooms, and no bath towels are provided. It's close to the railway, and the vibration is very strong when the tram passes by, which can wake up people with light sleep. The biggest highlight is the kitchen, which has a large refrigerator and an induction cooker, and is fully equipped with cooking pots, frying pans, kitchen knives, peelers, and bowls and chopsticks. But there is only one dining table, which can only seat 4 people.

Because I passed the check-in time, the clerk wrote me an email very considerately. First, he waited for me, and then I struggled until midnight. The clerk gave me a self-service check-in method and left me a towel. It was really great😄 The location is super strategic
