The room was a bit dated, but the main issue was how uncomfortable the duvet was. They just had a sheet under the duvet instead of the duvet being properly covered with a duvet cover. The sheet kept getting tangled at night and wouldn't stay tucked in. The hotel's main advantage is its own ski resort. While not huge, it's perfectly fine for beginners, and only allows two-plank skiing. Plus, the hotel includes ski tickets, and there's a ski rental shop nearby, which is quite convenient. A slight annoyance was that check-in isn't until 3 PM; we arrived at 2:30 PM and had to sit in the lobby until 3. The large public bath was spacious and good for showering. On a side note, on our way back, the shuttle bus was full, so the hotel sent a separate minivan for my family, which was excellent! We really felt valued!

Everything about the service was top-notch. The food was all delicious, and there was plenty of it to fill you up, with kaiseki cuisine even including sake, and the option to choose one dish from the menu. After 10 PM, they offer a late-night snack called 'yonaki soba' (night-time ramen). It's quantity-limited, so when I went a little before 10 PM, many people were already waiting. The dining area has limited seating, but takeaway was an option, so I ate it in my room. From ice cream after a bath to Yakult in the morning, I was never hungry and felt full the entire time I was at the inn. It was wonderful. The breakfast was also voluminous, and you could have unlimited rice. There's also a private bath. While it doesn't have a showerhead, it's a perfect space to spend time with a loved one. It was available when I went in the evening. Overall, I was surprised by how few Japanese guests there were; most seemed to be Chinese or other Asian guests. I'd like to stay here again when I go skiing.

The hotel itself was nice, but the staff at the ski resort was horrible, the rentals are also not well maintained. The boards are not waxed, which makes it difficult to work with as there are a lot of flat routes which are difficult to avoid (Pony and village road were the flattest slope Ive ever seen in my life, I had to unstrap and walk and the board just wouldn't move). Ski resort staff were unfriendly and the rental staff was the worst, there was a lady there that was cold and rude. The only reason why the rental shop is surviving is probably because the equipments are salomon branded and that there is no other option.  I would visit again but only because the routes are fun, Myoko long run was the best, but I would never want to rent from the shop again. The food was very very good. For breakfast, you could choose from western or Japanese buffet. Western buffet is highly recommended, the omelette was the best ive eaten in my life and there was a diy risotto which was great as well. For dinner, there were 4 options, either buffet, steak, Japanese or shabushabu. All requiring reservations which is tough if you are checking in the evening as some might not be available. Highly recommend the steak, the food was good and the staff were amazing. Japanese was the hardest to get a reservation for but the food was quite underwhelming. The room was clean and ski lockers are also provided but it's tiny and can barely fit 2 boards. But I wish that in the toilet in the common area, you can adjust the tap temperature as the water is freezing cold. Amenities wise, bottled water are provided daily, also, yukata was provided but you can only wear them to the onsen which was extremely troublesome as I had to change multiple times a day.  The hotel provides shuttle bus services to and fro jyoetsumyoko station which was easy to book. The bus drivers were also friendly and helped out with the luggage. In summary, for a 5 stars hotel, it didn't live up to expectations, ski resort and rental staffs were unwilling to help and unfriendly. Also, some of the staffs could not speak Japanese which is puzzling for a hotel in Japan. If not for the amazing snow and slopes I would never come back.

It takes about 10 minutes to walk from Echigo-Yuzawa Station to the hotel, but the hotel is located on a small slope. In winter, if there's heavy snowfall or too much accumulated snow, it can be a bit inconvenient to drag your luggage all the way to the hotel since there's no shuttle service. The hotel was newly renovated last year, so the rooms are very clean. Both breakfast and dinner are buffet style. Dinner includes pan-fried steak, sashimi, and small hot pots, but the selection is pretty much the same every night. Staying for three nights, it did get a bit boring, so there's room for improvement in the dining options! The hotel has a drying room and a ski rental shop with discounts on ski passes. Walking to the nearest gondola station takes about 10 minutes, and carrying all the ski gear was a bit strenuous. The hotel is only a few minutes from the hot spring street, and it's very convenient to walk to a convenience store after a soak. Overall, the hotel has plenty of rooms, and I would choose to stay here again next time.

The hotel's location is excellent. You can see the Yuzawa Grand Hotel nestled on the mountainside right from the west exit of Echigo-Yuzawa Station. It's about a 5-minute walk, though the large, steep slope at the hotel entrance requires careful walking, especially after a snowfall in Echigo-Yuzawa and when pushing luggage, to avoid slipping. We booked a Japanese/Western-style room, and the hotel gave us a room on the 7th floor of the South Wing, directly facing the station. The views were absolutely superb, especially the distant mountains after a snowfall – truly the 'Snow Country' I'd imagined. The room had two beds, and a futon was set up in the Japanese-style area, making it perfect for families with two children on a ski trip. There are two onsen (hot springs) on the hotel's first floor, and the open-air bath is particularly memorable, especially when you catch a heavy snow while soaking outdoors. An unforgettable experience! The hotel exudes the charm of an established onsen hotel, with attentive and meticulous service. Yukata and towels are changed daily. Although the facilities show their age, they are still perfectly functional, especially the in-room mini-bar/sink area, which was convenient for eating bentos in the room after skiing each day. Oh, we didn't book breakfast or dinner; we got all our meals from the convenience store inside the station and nearby restaurants. The hotel's excellent service was also evident in many small details, such as the free rain boots at the entrance and the weather forecasts for various ski resorts. I particularly recommend the ski rental shop right outside the hotel; they have a great attitude, reasonable prices, and the ski gear and helmets are all very new. In summary, it was a very satisfying stay in every aspect. If I come back to Echigo-Yuzawa during the ski season, I will definitely stay here again!

One of the loveliest ryokans we've ever stayed at in Japan, wish we stayed for longer. Every part of the hotel is so beautiful and serves as a lovely photo backdrop. There is a lounge with coffee/tea in the mornings and alcohol and snacks in the evening. There is also a playroom (suitable for infants to 6years old). Service is top notch, everyone is so helpful and friendly. Extremely easy to communicate with them as the staff can speak English well. They gave us a map and told us where we could go for food or to the ski resorts and gave a lot of local advice. They provide all the amenities you need. They even have rain boots that you can borrow and wear in case your shoes are not waterproof. It snowed heavily while we were there and the staff are super attentive - they asked where we were headed to and suggested for comfort, that we wear the hotel's rain boots as they knew my partner's shoe wasn't waterproof/suitable to walk through the snow. Rooms are very clean, big and comfortable (only that the futons are a little thin). The onsens are rather small, but the outdoor onsen is so beautiful. They provide a shuttle service to the train station (upon request) , although it is a relatively short walk - 5mins - and easy to walk if there is no snow. 7 eleven right next to the train station and New Days inside the train station. We loved every single thing about this charming lovely hotel and we will definitely be back if we are in Echigo Yuzawa.

【Excellent Location • Natural Sulfur Hot Springs • Heartwarming Late Night】 My stay at the Dormy Onsen Hotel in Niigata far exceeded my expectations, with every detail bringing surprises and satisfaction! 📍 Extremely Convenient Transportation The hotel's location is perfect, just a 6-minute walk from Niigata JR Station. Even with luggage, it's easily accessible, making it incredibly convenient as either the starting or ending point of a trip. ☕ Thoughtful Welcome Treatment Upon entering the hotel lobby, you're immediately greeted by a complimentary coffee machine. A free, unlimited cup of fragrant hot coffee instantly washes away travel fatigue, invigorating you and giving you energy for the rest of your trip (or shopping!). ♨️ Authentic Natural Hot Springs The quality of the hot springs is the biggest highlight! The large public baths are divided into indoor and outdoor baths, all made with genuine natural hot spring water. The strong sulfur smell immediately upon entering is incredibly reassuring. The highlight is the open-air hot spring, cleverly designed with a cave theme. Gazing at the stars or the cave walls amidst the rising steam feels like stepping into a natural wonderland – a truly therapeutic experience. 🍜 Heartwarming Late-Night Dining Delight The most delightful surprise is at night! Every night from 9:30 PM to 11:00 PM, the hotel offers complimentary ”Yonari Kisobaba” – steaming hot and delicious soba noodles to satisfy your hungry stomach after a soak in the hot spring. Not only that, but there are also complimentary Yakult, popsicles, and other snacks and drinks, all available 24 hours a day – this attentive care is simply wonderful! From its location and service to its hot springs and thoughtful late-night snacks, this hotel demonstrates its dedication to its guests. It's definitely the perfect accommodation choice for a trip to Niigata that you'll want to return to again and again! Highly recommended for anyone looking for a high-value hot spring inn.

The hotel's location is excellent, right outside the ski slopes, which is incredibly convenient. The nearest ski resort doesn't have many runs, mostly beginner-friendly, perfect for leisurely and family ski trips. Plus, the larger Yuzawa Nakazato ski resort is only about a 10-minute walk away. Guests also get discounts at various ski resorts and ski rental shops. The hotel offers a shuttle bus service to and from Echigo-Yuzawa, which is very convenient. The accommodation and food were also good. We had a delightful ski holiday.

The overall service was incredibly thoughtful, and the staff were friendly and polite. From the pick-up service at the station to the evening welcome, everything was perfectly executed, and simple English communication was no problem. As for the accommodation, the room was in a traditional Japanese style, spacious and clean, with a great view outside the window. Although the building itself is a bit old, it's very well-maintained. The onsen (hot spring bath) was a highlight – the water, straight from the source, felt silky smooth, and the open-air bath offered expansive views, making for a truly relaxing soak. Overall, it's a charming and hospitable onsen ryokan where you can truly unwind.

I can't give this a good review! I've stayed at so many ryokans with dinner and breakfast included, but this Futaba really left a lot to be desired! First off, the guy at the front desk checking us in was so quiet, he didn't even give us the most basic information like which floor the hot springs were on; he just handed us an all-English hotel guide. Second, this is the only onsen hotel I've ever stayed in where the bathroom smelled, and even the carpet in the entryway by the toilet had a urine smell... Then, the hot spring was just a regular public bath, and there wasn't even an ice pop after soaking. Finally, when we left, the staff didn't help us bring our luggage from the lobby to the shuttle bus. I had to drag it to the bus myself, and then the staff finally came out to open the door and help us load it in. (We were the only family on the bus at the time) It's just a really hard experience to rate...

Amazing resort, felt like something out of a Christmas movie. Very friendly and helpful staff who speak very good English as well. Not a lot to do during the day if you aren’t out on the slopes though.

Room was spacious. But overall hotel is old and certain parts of it felt like stepping into North korea. But it was quaint and suited the old town vibes. Hotel provided free shuttle from echigo yuzawa station. Room only had Japanese tea cups and no spoons. Parts of the room had cobwebs and similarly at the onsen. They charged a 150 yen per person per day for onsen regardless if utilised or not. And this charge was not told to us through trip.com or during check in. Staff did not understand English at all. We had to use translator to communicate. The free dinner provided was nice for the first night then it became meh. And they strictly prohibited guests to bring own drinks to dinner as they had a drink menu. 350 yen + tax for a glass of coke. Staff were polite and nice.

Not the hotel’s fault but ski slope was not opened until 27 Dec due to lack of snow. Otherwise it would have been a great ski in and out. Lift pass to Gala was provided. Breakfast and buffet dinner were fantastic. Onsen was as expected with leg massage pools.

The hotel is very clean and the room is spacious. The only two things that I dislike is the separate toilet and bath which is small plus no hook to hang clothes and need to climb a slope everytime you go in/out of the hotel.

Akakura Onsen is a great little Japanese town in the snow. Akakura Park Hotel provided a large twin room, with AC and a small fridge, small lounge and lots of space (unusual for Japan). Breakfast was a western buffet with japanese options also. Drying room and a nice hot en also. Only issue is that the ski lift is a 400m walk up a slope and then back again at the end of the day. Lots of small japanese restaurants available in the main street but you have to book the day before for some. Lots of snow and one blue sky day for our week of skiing.

The best stay ever with exceptional service and super gorgeous room + private onsen. We enjoyed a complimentary welcome drink and dessert before they showed us to our room. The loft style japanese room was stunning, decorated with tasteful details. The best part was of course the onsen, we could watch snow as we enjoyed the soak. There was also a massage chair in the room haha. The breakfast that we added on was really delicious too. The hotel provides pick up service to and fro train stations nearby, make sure to check with them prior to your arrival. Something that warms our hearts is their quality service, e.g. they would warm our shoes before we head out as it was snowing outside etc. Location wise, it's very near to Gala Yuzawa station. However, I think most restaurants are closer to Echigo Yuzawa station. So we would take a short walk there every night for dinner instead.
