Occidental at Xcaret Destination - All Inclusive

Booked Occidental Xcaret as I had been before and had been enchanted by its beauty and had wanted to visit again. But I won’t visit again after the last 10 days, when spending a substantial amount of money you accept the basics to be covered! Check in We arrived late 10pm after a transatlantic flight which meant in all we’d been travelling for 23 hours and were exhausted. We checked in with several other families who were checked in seamlessly. We however were not, and after a 50 minute wait with no communication we were given a room in block 21 & not long after getting to our room the electricity went off, so we were unable to see and needed a torch to navigate the room. The electricity was repaired the next day. Food The food in the buffet restaurant was absolutely terrible. My daughter ate bread throughout our stay as that’s the only thing that in the buffet that she felt was not stale and dry. The specialty restaurants were the only saving grace, particularly The Oriental, the Italian and the Mexican. Drinks Drinks were hit and miss! Mimosas for breakfast ❤️! Although in the main restaurant I’d to go get my own, the beach restaurant staff were much better and were quick . Good quality wine in the restaurants, which was surprising and refreshing and much better service in the specialty restaurants especially Julius in the Oriental and Jesus in the Italian. Pool The pools are large, salt water and quite often shared with the locals (bugs and lizards). They were cleaned most mornings BUT 1 particular morning there were a lot of cockroaches in the pool which was most off putting. Also the lizards leave large 💩 around the pool edges which is hardly hygienic & we’re not dealt with in a timely manner. Waitress service around the pool…I am extremely disappointed in this. Of course I understand that tipping is expected, however a couple of times I didn’t tip (run out of physical cash) and I was completely ignored, I asked 3 times for a drink and was blatantly ignored then told by the waitress that she was ‘going on her break’….id only been asking for over 2 hours. Staff in the swim up bar- 5⭐️ Staff in the English Pub -5⭐️ Room Very basic. No hairdryer. No replacement coffee after two days. Had to ask for drinks to be refreshed My biggest gripe TOWELS! I’ve never stayed in a hotel where I’ve had to beg for towels for a shower. 4 nights out of 10 I’d to either ask or do without ( as I was told you’d run out). Simply not good enough! Bed and quality of sleep-5 ⭐️ Resort The resort itself is breathtakingly beautiful. The interaction with the animals is the only saving grace to our holiday. We loved seeing the deers, monkeys, coates and porcupines. My final tip for future travelers and biggest suggestion for improvement to the management of this Hotel. Fantastic hotel but the food options need to be improved. It was almost impossible to book a restaurant even at 8am in the morning. However when we did manage to get a booking, the restaurants were empty! However we did not let this affect our stay. All staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel building and setting in nature is wonderful. Great facilities including Xcaret park very close by. Would recommend as long you are prepared to eat at the buffet for most of your stay.

Overall you get hat you pay for, we ate at the buffets and snack bars, If you plan on making reservations to one of the restaurants, Bring slacks or you can’t get in.It was in the 90’s i September so packing long pants wasn’t something I thought would be necessary.

My stay was average nothing that would not make me go back other than the quality of food that needs improvement
