The school is really good. The hygiene and comfort of the hotel are slightly inferior to those of three-star chain hotels outside, but it is still very good. I highly recommend going to the umass cafeteria for meals! The 11th floor of the hotel has a great view of the campus, recommended!

During the spring break, I stayed here on a business trip. I had a Western-style simple meal. The big bed was very comfortable. There was free WiFi in the room. There was a Chinese restaurant 10 minutes' walk away. The room was very clean. It seemed like the waiter was a college student.

The hotel is very clean and the location is right inside the UMAss campus. It is very convenient. I will stay in this hotel next time when I visit my children.

Kind of a mess -- room is tight: bathroom is impossibly small. No housekeeping during your stay -- "you're a stayover", I was told: that means no housekeeping. Very few toiletries (use the soap in the sink or the shower -- but not both!), towels pile up, and beds have sheets that come up in about ten minutes of being in the bed. No thermostat control, and the continental breakfast is ridiculous: one carafe of coffee, they don't pay attention, so literally for five mornings in a row I had to go to the desk and tell them there was no coffee. They would then take the one carafe and brew it. Ten minutes. Every morning. Go back for a second cup? There's no coffee. Maybe have rotating carafes like every other place on the planet? Front desk staff just stands there scrolling on their phones. Asked for the location of a campus building -- had no idea. Finally asked them for a map. Brilliant. Found one finally and then...had no idea where anything was. I slept fine, made my own bed, created a towel stack under the sink, and used my own toiletries. Figured out where things were on my own. An adventure! and the walk from the parking garage with luggage to the front desk is not easy -- not sure how anyone who would need assistance would be able to do it. Don't pack a lot! You have to carry it for quite a while!

Great location for a visit to UMass. Stayed in room 718 this weekend. Not only did we hear the elevator Shaft all night long. They decided to do some kind of repair work at 1:30am till 3am ? literally thought they were going to fall through the ceiling. Heard bolts dropping, water running, and constant banging.. Nice !! Never again

Good: Clean room, comfy bed, nice staff. Bad: No microwave. Could rent a fridge if any available. Continental breakfast was ok. No room service. Food court closes at 6pm. No USB ports. Thermostat difficult to control. Could hear voices through the walls and from the halls due to door gap and toilets flushing. Weird dirty looking cement building.

Great hotel in a convenient location! Pros: easy access to the campus, quiet, great student (and visitor) dining options in the same building. The room was very clean and quiet. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the pillows are super fluffy and abundant. Cons: TOO COLD. I got to my room and it was 66 degrees. I quickly found the thermostat does absolutely nothing. One morning I woke up and it was a comfortable 74 degrees in the room, but the temperature more often hovered around 69 degrees. I made frequent trips outside to warm up. Also there's a 2" gap under the door to the hallway. Conversations easily travel under the gap. I feel like a small autonomous robot could easily access the room by scooting under the door.

We were attending an event (Antiquarian book fair) located on campus and this was extremely convenient! Our room was very clean, bed comfortable, and amazing view! There are many very good food options in the building too. We were very happy with our stay and would recommend. Check in was easy, with friendly service! Continental breakfast was fine, very good pastries. Our casual interactions with students were very pleasant!

We had been to 5 hotels on this trip and this was the most expensive and worst one! It wasn’t very clean, loud heater and the worst breakfast ever! They had hard bagels you stick in the toaster yourself. The pasties were also hard and stale. And that was your only option. We went to buy breakfast our second day.
Response from Property: Hello Shellshock, Thank you for taking the time time to share your recent experience at Hotel UMass. As the Hotel Director I would like to personally apologize for the inconvenience you experienced. For your information we receive fresh pastries daily from our award winning (in-house) Bakeshop. We also receive fresh bagels (every other day from our local partner the Tandem Bagel Company. As far as cleanliness. We recently were awarded the Inspector’s Best Of Housekeeping Award from AAA. This award recognizes hotels that receive the highest possible cleanliness and condition scores. We were also one of the 1st hotels to receive a (Covid-19) Clean & Safe Certification from the Mass Lodging Association. It sounds like your experience was an unfortunate anomaly. If your plans require you to return to Amherst in the near future please reach out to me directly. Regards, LaMar Cook
