Hotel Camino Real Antigua

Had high expectations for this hotel after reading the rave reviews but didn’t quite get a luxury 5 star experience. We stayed at the Virrey suite which had only one window facing a wall so it felt like a dungeon. The staff members were polite for the most part but we had a couple of strange issues. We had breakfast at the restaurant our first morning there and were not allowed to charge to the room but had to pay upfront. We found the breakfast to be very mediocre compared to other restaurants in the area so didn’t return. One afternoon we were heading out to get lunch and a security guard came up to my husband and asked for our room number, wrote it down on a piece of paper and put it in his pocket. Not sure what that was about. At checkout the receptionist asked if we took anything from the minibar and we told him that we took one non-alcoholic seltzer. He immediately said it would be USD8. We told him that was an absurdly high price for a can of seltzer and he responded by saying he needs to speak to his colleague. After talking to his colleague, he charged us USD2. The hotel gets swarms of termites in the evenings so our bathroom and area by the front entrance would be filled with dead termites. We experience termite swarms where we live as well so not blaming the hotel for this but our bathroom would have dead termites on the ground even after housekeeping was done cleaning. The hotel is tastefully done and in a convenient location. But not somewhere I’d be keen on returning to.

Great hotel and also location

This is truly a 5 star hotel and one of the best I’ve stayed at. Starting with the service and continuing with the beauty and cleanliness of the hotel. The amount of details in every corner is incredible. It has a rooftop, bars, restaurants and a huge jacuzzi, all of the areas offer beverages service. The bathroom is out of this world, so beautiful!

Very nice hotel, the location is very convenient in Antigua and the Staff very kind

It is a great hotel. Location is close to everything but in a quiet area. Juan Luis, a staff member, was very helpful as a tour guide.
