Mr & MRS Smith Kapsaliana Village Hotel

The staff was all over us and we had no privacy— people were in our backyard cleaning the pool and dealing with various maintenance issues the whole time, testing the water, cleaning buckets and tools in our space all morning, no sense of the serene and calm that there is in for instance the main pool area. So that was odd. The dinner meal was increbly bad— inexcusable in every way. As if no one had ever been to a nice restaurant in for instance Ca, which this place should feel like since the surroundings are full of gorgeous fresh produce and would easily translate to a farm stay experience. Our server gave us Cabernet when we asked for light red, and without telling us the price the most expensive. Then we asked for pasta for the kids since the table nearby had been offered, and then, after waiting over 30 minutes, the kids were served a bowl of potato foam with no pasta in sight because, we were told, the chef had a “surprise” get out of here!! It was so bad I can easily describe it as the worker meal in years, and def the worst in Greece by order of magnitude. And the price for all this food that basically tasted like eating straight chicken boullion and raw crayfish, at cat food sized portions, was almost $300. It was absolutely laughable in the end. The owner was seated nearby and never once glanced out way, though clearly our waiter was struggling and we were engaged in long back and forth with his staff. Terrible.

Absolutely our best stay in Greece and a must if you are visiting Crete. Celebrated my wife’s 60th birthday with 7 other friends from around the globe. We had Bourealis with a huge apartment and private pool. The restaurant catered a private celebration in our pool area and the event was stunning and professional. All staff are super professional and curteous! Food in the restaurant was fantastic and reasonably priced for the quality! If you are choosing to fly in to Crete we would definitely recommend Chania over Heraklion. Day trips, eating and boat trips from Rethymno are the entertainment in this paradise destination!

Very very nice, just a little bit expensive. The place is gorgeous, the service is great, I do, however think it is a little bot too expensive. Dinners and wine particularly. The landscape is crazy however, the place calm and hidden, but massages for instance are more expensive than in Paris.

The history of Kapsaliana village hotel is just as amazing as the facility itself. It is off the beaten track a little, but there is really no need to leave. It has everything you could need, comfortable air conditioned rooms, a pool (with bar) terrific breakfast and excellent evening meals. The staff are excellent.

What a remarkable project, to turn a sleepy,almost completely abandoned village into a fabulous hotel. It's been done incredibly well and must have had an excellent architect. We had a near-perfect holiday here, peaceful, enchanting birdsong, relaxing spaces, always plenty of sun beds, an immaculate pool and lovely staff, particularly Brigitte who was very helpful and knowledgeable about the local area . My only criticism was that the highly acclaimed restaurant did not serve vegetables with the main courses, although we saw a lovely vegetable garden. Small amount of purée perhaps, but accompanying vegetables would have been good.

This hotel is hands down one of the nicest hotels I have stayed at. The staff is just so extremely friendly, the rooms are great, comfortable and quiet. Would definitely stay here again. We were in Altair which has it own little patio with table and chairs, 2 sun chairs and view of the Sea, Olive Groves and pool.

Everything was of the highest quality : location, breakfast, dinner, room, staff... And Brigitte gave us great suggestions for trips. One can feel that all the staff likes to work there, and this creates a superbe atmosphere of well-being.

I've probably stayed in over 200 hotels and without a doubt, Kapsaliana Village is among the top 3, maybe the best. The location is serene and relaxing, the facilities are amazing but the stand-out is the staff, they are committed, engaged and work hard to ensure guests have a great time. The amenities are top notch and a special mention must be made of the restaurant, which serves Cretan specialties and is nothing short of exceptional. We also met the family that owns the hotel and has poured their heart and soul into this property for over 4 decades, they have created a hotel that can only be created by someone who has deep commitment and passion. The hotel is tucked in the uplands of Rethymno prefecture, about 20-30 minutes from Rethymno, an hour from Heraklion and 1-2 hours from major beaches like Elafonisi, Falasarna, Preveli etc. Having a rental car made it much easier to use the hotel as a base to explore the island. The best thing I can say about the hotel is that l already wish I was back there
