As a solo woman traveling up the coast, I had been concerned about finding a safe and affordable option to break up my trip. Ashland Commons is both of those things and more - the beds are super comfortable, the whole place is extremely clean, and the bathrooms, bedrooms, and kitchen are all well-stocked with everything you need. On the way up I was expected to arrive close to midnight, so the staff thoughtfully called me ahead of time to share check-in information and sent me texts with helpful pictures and other information I might need (had absolutely no problems following the detailed directions). I enjoyed my stay so much that I booked another stay on my way back, and would highly recommend anyone roadtripping up/down the coast to do the same!

Despite booking a private 2 bed room for myself and a friend, upon arriving at 4pm and checking in we were informed we had been downgraded, and no real explanation was offered. The difference between beds is only 10 dollars, but the common beds are in the main room, and guests continued to arrive as late as 12:40pm. These guests were allowed to go into their private rooms they had reserved, despite arriving well after hours for the hostel. I cannot recommend this hostel if you care about what room you will be sleeping in, despite whatever reservations you may make.

THERE ARE PEOPLE SLEEPING IN THE COMMON ROOM. I've never seen this. This is a COMMON room, not a men's dorm...and it's not overflow like I originally assumed - it's for the hosts to make extra money. Yes, quiet hours are 11 PM to 7 AM, but that only makes people feel bad about making noise outside of those hours.

Lovely spot to stay. Quiet, private, and there were many kind people there. Host was very hospitable and made check in and check out smooth and easy. Walkable from the main little town and the Shakespeare Festival. Would definitely recommend and stay here again if I'm in Ashland again!
