White Lion Royal Hotel

Nice period Hotel with period features but it’s all looking rather tired. The biggest letdown for me was the ensuite it had cracked floor and wall tiles with grout missing trim missing from underneath the sink, even the sink had a crack in it, the radiator was leaking! And had been leaking for sometime, no blind at one window facing the street and the other window blind was permanently down as had a broken winder and at £85pn you'd expect better. As it was late when we arrived it was reported the next morning, a young lass on reception said she would pass it onto her supervisor, we got back from a day out and I enquired at reception about my concerns, only to be told by a different person they knew nothing about it and nothing was logged, so asked to see a Manager! Only to be told on wasn’t available but would be the next day. The next morning asked at reception to see the Manager, again was told by another different person one wasn't available and nothing was known about my concerns. On returning from a day out again asked at reception to speak to a Manager, only to be told again there wasn’t available. On Checking out the next morning ask to see the Manager only to be told again one was not available, and still reception had nothing logged and knew nothing of my concerns. Overall very poorly run and total lack of communication or just couldn’t be bothered.

We visited this hotel in March 2024 and were so impressed we booked for 2 nights over the bank holiday weekend and awarded it a 5 star rating on TripAdvisor. Oh dear what a difference 5 months make. We were unimpressed by this visit. I acknowledge that the hotel is between managers but our room (207) was sub standard due completely to the state of the bathroom - the floor tiles were cracked and in places loose, the shower tray was missing its side, the toilet seat was loose and the bathroom was so dark it was difficult for my partner to see to shave. The area at the front of the hotel could do with a bit of tlc ie the chairs and tables could do with wiping down. Plus points are the staff are friendly, drinks from the bar were good and breakfast was nice however it would be better if it were served on round plates. Another point - we had booked a bed and breakfast tariff, the hotel records didn't show this, it was up to my partner to produce his confirmation e-mail to prove this. With a good manager in place I know this hotel could be so much better.

Essentials perfect: very comfy bed, power shower, clean room with tea making facilities, perfect room temperature (fan available in room too). I had a great night's sleep. Very friendly, helpful staff even when they were really busy with two events on in town and summer holiday, sunny day Saturday night custom. It is fairly noisy given there's a beer garden, above a busy pub, in a busy market town - but just the nice sounds of people enjoying themselves. It quietened down after 9 and I was fast asleep before 10. For the price I would prefer better parking or at least detailed information about parking with booking: there was no room at the hotel parking so I had to pay £11 for 24 hours in the long stay Council Parking a short walk away. It would be good to have a fixed hairdryer in each room, and more tea, coffee and milk sachets than was provided. And for the price I would expect normal glass not bubble frosted in the windows - I assume it was converted from what used to be a bathroom. Nothing that would stop me booking in the future though.

Well what a fab weekend stayed here hotel room was nice I Need to give a shout at to 2 people 1 was reception lady who took our booking and a lovely lady called June she stopped to say hello are we having nice time with great smile and warmth I think she might of been the cleaning staff for rooms who don't get much credit the room smelt fresh loads of condiment who loves a good cup of tea

It is not advisable to arrive at a hotel without a confirmed reservation. It is highly inconvenient and frustrating to be informed upon arrival that the hotel is overbooked and cannot accommodate Me. Furthermore, it is concerning that the hotel did not inform Me of this situation in advance, especially after sending an email expressing their warm welcome. I had to scramble to find alternative accommodations, but fortunately, the ******* support team was able to secure a room for Me at no additional cost. I must say, the alternative accommodations at RUTHIN CASTEL HOTEL were far superior to the original hotel, and I highly recommend them.

We spent the weekend here visiting family and the staff were very friendly and helpful the room was lovely clean and lots of light and the lovely lady even gave us complimentary breakfasts for our 2 guests who joined us on the Sunday morning would highly recommend and will definitely be staying here again 👍

This is the third year we have been here, and it just gets better and better. All the staff very friendly and could not do enough for you. Meals excellent and hotel clean and warm. Great job Vicky to you and your staff.

This hotel is fantastic. Its clean serves fantastic food has a beer garden and a yard to the rear for parking. We arrived on Thursday stayed to Sunday on a motorbike tour from Ireland. The staff were exceptional would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a central location in which to base your holiday in Wales.
