Shaw Inn

The family room was pretty spacious and well furnished . The bathroom is small, and the strange smell keeps on coming from it after the first use itself. The restaurant is very good. The views from the room are average with one side close to another hotel building part wrapped in tarpauline.. givong it a shabby look. Even otherwise the views are not very great. The advance booking rate was almost 30 per cent or more than the current booking rate. So dont book in advance . IN SHORT A DECENT STAY BUT NOTTHE VALUE FOR MONEY HOTEL. TOO EXPENSIVE GIVEN ITS LOCATION, DESIGN AND FACILITIES

Very good ambience. We are here for my wife’s birthday. The hotel staff have made Beautiful arrangements. Food was tasty and hospitality especially by Mr. Elys was excellent. Highly recommendable for people who would like to stay in Gulmarg.

Lovely property. Very friendly staff. Had a wonderful time at the place. The staff were particularly attentive to the needs of our young kids and ensured they were well taken care of. The property is located close to the gondola ride start point and lot of open area so our kids were able to enjoy playing in the snow. I only wish the buffet at dinner time gave more options to explore the local Kashmiri cuisine.

Cozy, chalet style rooms with lovely service and surroundings. Snow caped mountains all around the Hotel. The Gondola is an easy 10 minute walk. Majid was extremely helpful and escorted us to the gondola ride in heavy snow conditions. He was even professional enough to refuse a gratuity when I offered it. The reception staff are also very courteous and polite. The only thing I didn’t appreciate was that the restaurant staff came up to me said to “make his boys happy”. Basically he was telling me to tip them directly on my face. That is not very classy and ruins the effort the other staff members are putting in.

The toilet in the room was blocked. After complaining, they changed the room. But found out that this was blocked too. Had to change room for the third time at night to a smaller room. The bedsheets were stained and dirty. The staff were apologetic about the whole experience but this was really unexpected for a 4 star rated property. The hotel has nice grounds in the front to sit and relax in the evening. A campfire would have been perfect though. There is a well equipped gaming room for kids to play. The hotel looks rustic with wooden interiors and is probably one of the better properties in Gulmarg The rates charged per room are very high since there are not many vacant properties around. Food is delicious and breakfast spread is great too. Only the family room has a balcony.

- Room quality - 3/5 (Smaller rooms) - Dinning hall - 3/5 ( gave the feeling I was choked coz it was pretty closed, with no sunlight or fresh air) - Front desk response 5/5 - General Hospitality 3/5 - Food 4/5 - Cleanliness - 4/5 Reception staff and Iqbal from dining were hospitable, rest of the folks were just hanging around for tips Complaints - Being a 4 star hotel and providing service, the tip is something which the guests need to provide based on quality of service and guests shouldnt be begged for a tip. - The guy who kept asking for a tip was NOT IQBAL or the Dining manager it was another dude. Let people have their food. Iqbal and the Dining manager were pretty hospitable but not the other servers. - The heater wasnt working in the room at all. a temporary heater was provided. To Consider for future by hotel management - Early dinner to start at 7 PM instead of 8 PM - Hot water and cold water adjustment in the bathroom is a pain in the neck for guests.

We stayed at Shaw Inn in Gulmarg and it was a shocking disappointment!! The picture shown gives a very wrong impression. The surroundings of Shaw Inn was more like a garbage dump and resembled nothing of the beauty of Gulmarg! I’ve always used a trip advisor review on all our travels and it was always very good hence used your reviews on shaw Inn before booking. It turned out to be such a huge disappointment that it’s made me loose faith in trip advisor reviews. The hotels we’ve stayed in abroad has been fabulous, all trip advisor recommendations. Pls double check on reviews provided here coz obviously vested interest maybe providing the reviews which unfortunately ends up a huge disappointment when your customers actually go by those reviews. Shaw Inn is extremely over priced for a very very mediocre place . Having paid 14 grand a night we expected some level of standard but after seeing Shaw Inn , I wouldn’t pay more than 3 grand for a mediocre set up like that. The food was very average and our experience with the main management was very disappointing I wudnt want anyone else to go through this terrible experience so kindly verify reviews put up by people promoting their own property..

Nice location and good food. Its a 5 minute walk to Gondola ride. Rooms were spacious, neat and clean with centralized heating and kettles. They provided storage facilities as we arrived early for Gondola. The staff asks for tips openly, first experience in Kashmir as in other places they didnt ask even though we gave them !

During a spontaneous trip to Gulmarg, Kashmir, we opted for a family room at Shaw Inn at the last minute. This decision, unfortunately, resulted in a higher payment than one would normally expect. Keeping the pricing aside, Shaw Inn presents itself as a charming boutique hotel, housing 16 well-appointed rooms. The accommodations come equipped with essential amenities, including room heaters, which operate on a schedule from 6 AM to 10 AM and again from 6 PM to 11 PM. This contrasts with our previous experience at Radisson, where we could set the room temperature to our preference throughout the day. The absence of constant temperature control at Shaw Inn was a notable difference. The staff's dedication to service is commendable, always ready to assist. The rooms offer the convenience of modern entertainment with TVs that support streaming services like YouTube, Amazon Prime, and Netflix, provided guests use their own accounts. However, the hotel's weak WiFi connection poses a challenge, although my personal Jio 5G connection proved to be a reliable alternative. On the culinary front, the hotel's offerings leave room for enhancement. The quality and variety of food could be improved to match the overall experience of the stay. A peculiar inconvenience noted was the bathroom's jet spray, which is directly linked to the geyser, leading to an inability to adjust the water temperature. Also, there is a constant stink near the bathroom area. These details, albeit minor, suggests an area for infrastructural refinement. In conclusion, Shaw Inn offers a warm and inviting atmosphere with exceptional service and comfortable rooms. However, attention to culinary offerings, minor bathroom adjustments, and the provision of consistent room temperature control could elevate the overall guest experience. This hidden gem in the heart of Gulmarg has the potential to provide an even more delightful stay with a few improvements.
