This was the latest 1 night stop-over at this venue. It is handy for its location to the motorway for a stop-over. First, I am pleased to say the bar area and restaurant have both had a much needed refurbishment and look fresh and modern and really are a valuable improvement to hotel. Reception was fine and no issues checking in. The room was ok, like most of the rooms they are somewhat tired now and need refurbishment themselves. I understand that the rooms are next on the to-do list later in 2024. The room was clean but only had 2 very flat pillows (1 each) - we told reception and to be fair after their look of initial surprise (which was very clear from their facial expression) was rectified straight away. Bar service was slow with no-one behind the bar. I stood there for 10+ minutes until a member of reception staff wandered over and asked if everything was ok? I did say “Being served would be nice”. They have 8 draft beers but in terms of choice you have 6 to chose from as 2 double up. They had sold out of 4 beers and by dinner had sold out of another 3. The explanation was that it had been the England match the night before. That does raise the question of bar management and ordering. The bar was running out of things all the time. Dinner was ok but certainly did not match the menu description with either starter or either main with alternatives put on the plates with no explanation. Breakfast was ok but as can be often the case - really could have been hotter. Quality of the food overall was not an issue.
