The staff is very friendly and accommodating, the room updates are very nice. The refurb in the lobby has most of the first floor blocked off with a narrow hallway leading to a single elevator. The restaurant and bar is closed. The rooms are tiny. We’re talking smaller than cruise ship rooms tiny. First time I’ve ever felt claustrophobic in a hotel room. Perhaps the new furniture, though beautiful, was too much for the space as it barely fits the single bed. You can reach the refrigerator, coffee maker and microwave while laying in bed, it’s that close. Still tempted to give it 3 or 4 stars up until my last point. The pillows are very large and very firm. They’re brand new, overstuffed, 100% polyester with no give. Almost comically so. It props your head up in an uncomfortable position whether on your back or side and I spent two nights getting almost no sleep because of it. They have no other pillows in the building, I asked. A lot of promise here but if you can’t sleep, what’s the point? Hopefully they can mix in slimmer, less firm pillows for 2 of the 4 large, overstuffed pillows. It would go a long way. Also, the thermostats go down to 68 degrees instead of the standard 65. That alone loses you one star on a 95 degree day in Louisiana. Hopeful this hotel makes a few changes to improve comfort and the construction is finished soon.
