We had a lovely 2 night stay at Bear Lake Lodgings- after a trip up to the Exit Glacier, we came in to a beautifully well kept place and a wonderful view from our room. Took the canoe out for an evening paddle and saw a family of river otters on the opposite shore having dinner. Came back to ice cream!!!! Bed was comfy, folks were wonderful and friendly (even the dogs!) and about the only concern was the elusive eagle that my husband, hard as he tried, couldn't get a good picture of (it was pretty funny- we'd be in the living room chatting and it would fly past the huge window over the lake and make circles, but he could sit on the deck with his camera for a half hour and it would disappear- until as soon as he put the camera away!) There's a Salmon Weir right up the street, the folks there were great about showing us the ladders used to make sure that just enough pairs (6000) get into the lake each spring. They were just beginning to run, and you could see them resting before they'd jump up and over (quite a sight!). We had the fun of going over just as it opened one morning and helping to rescue a fat 'ole muskrat that had gotten caught in the lift. Would recommend to everyone.

I ended up visiting Alaska on the off season and was searching for places to stay when I saw this place. I only got to stay for 2 nights but wished I could've stayed longer! Pat was there to greet me once I got there and I met Dennis later on in the day. I ended up being the only one at the B&B for those 2 nights because it was before the tourist season starts. Since I was the only one there Pat was so accommodating to what time I would want breakfast and also went over all the places that were open for this in-between time of year. The room was very nice and clean. The bathroom was down the hall but I don't think you'd normally see many people in that hallway since I stayed in the lakeside sweet and it is the only room on that floor. The room was also made up after I left for the day and came back. I had a tour with Kenai Fjords (FYI they have a discount if you book through the B&B) and Pat lent me a rain coat, hand warmers and some gloves. They were very useful as it got very cold and rainy out there. I would love to stay there again, maybe in the summer next time! Also to try that ice cream :)

It is true that not many activities are available in wintertime at Seward; however, we do enjoy our stay at Bear Lake Lodging, it is joyful and peaceful. Pat is very welcoming, considerate and with great humor. She always explains to us in great detail: what to do and what to eat. And even has a booklet that contains almost every restaurant’s menu and maps of different trails. Pat joked about the “crappy snow” because there wasn’t much of snow and my name is Snow. (That’s a good one, I must admit) The house feels like home and we are like a family. Pat is an amazing lady! She reminds Michelle of her host mother in Minnesota: they are both very warm-hearted, humorous and good at making great food! On the second day of our staying, Michelle was “out of control” and had 3 waffles that morning because it was the best waffle ever! (Although we have been to Belgium and ate their waffle, she still prefers Pat's homemade!) Moreover, Pat is a lovely mother and grandmother; the story she shared with us about her son's marriage and the miss of her university commencement were really touched - it made us feel bonded with her life. Such emotional connection is a precious experience you won't get from staying in a hotel or an inn or from simply be at the scenic, though it is an indispensable part for a meaningful trip! So don't miss the experience! PS: the bed upstairs is super cozy and comfortable; we haven’t have that much of a good sleep in these days.

Pat, Dennis and Ginny couldn't have been any nicer or accommodating =) We spent 3 days at Bear Lake Lodge. The location is perfect. It was out of town and allowed us time to relax and experience Alaska "living" instead of smashed inside a small hotel room. We called Dennis a walking encyclopedia. He thoroughly answered all of our questions and kept things very interesting. The nightly ice cream social, aside from serving DELICIOUS ice cream, was a perfect time to meet new people, visit with new friends and gather "intel" useful to the remainder of our vacation =)

Great great great place Really a fantastic place to be. Go for ride on the lake for free. Wake up to delicious breakfast being served by the round table. 5 minutes drive to town - and 5 minutes to Exit glacier. What’s not to like.

We stayed 4 nights in this super cozy, relaxing B&B. The close proximity to Seward was a plus but we loved being able to look out at the lake and take in all of the views. It was a bonus that we were able to canoe and kayak this gorgeous lake. The hosts were so nice and accommodating. Breakfast prepared every morning before we took off for the day to explore the area. We loved our stay and highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the Seward area.
