What a lovely, lovely place to stay. I have to admit, I was not really all that excited to visit New Mexico. My husband is on a roll trying to visit all 50 states. We were supposed to take this trip two years ago, but my mom got sick and we had to cancel. A friend recommended this resort. When we arrived, I got a little nervous because the turn off to the property is right on a main drag. However, the resort itself is set about 4 miles back, literally in the middle of nowhere. The outside entrance looks very modest, but it belies what lays ahead once you enter. The views of the mountains from the main lobby are magical. The property is immaculate, with plenty of trails for a morning walk if it's not 102 degrees, as we had the misfortune of experiencing. Luck of the draw. Breakfast under the verdana was delightful. Our waiter, Albert, took the time to set us out on a memorable drive the next day to Jemez Pueblo, where we continued on all the way to Bandolier National Monument. Can't imagine a more beautiful drive. The terrain goes from scrub, to red rock. to pines... all in a two hour loop. Now I understand why New Mexico is known as the Land of Enchantment. Our room at the Tamaya was spacious, clean, and had a nice view of the pool, which was also well appointed. The staff couldn't have been nicer. The views from the patio are spectacular. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Tamaya to the pickiest of travelers. Loved everything about our stay and would love to return someday!
