This is not a review of the YHA or services offered, but something happening in the same building. Visited the building to attend a special exhibition of Lowry artwork, called Lowry and the Sea. Forty or so paintings and drawings have been collated to demonstrate Lowry's love of the sea in his later life. Exhibited on the top floor of the YHA building in the Granary Gallery it is well worth the visit if you are in the area. There is a charge to enter, but exclusions apply. e.g. YHA membership. Exhibition runs until 13th October 24

This review is for the coffee shop/cafe. Wonderful, friendly and personalized coffee experience at the YHA hostel cafe. This cafe is a cozy, modern space and we enjoyed stopping for refreshment while walking around Berwick on our visit from the U.S.

This was a great budget place to stay as a solo female traveller. I spent three nights at the youth hostel with my husband and son-in-law on the first night and the remaining two nights on my own. Booking was not straightforward.I had to make the group booking separately from the nights I was going to be there on my own and I made an error when I first booked for myself. However, whilst there was some confusion as to how many people would be using the room this was quickly sorted out by the staff on reception when we checked in. The facilities were very clean but the self-catering kitchen was a bit of a scramble to find some items like mugs, bowls and glasses. It seems these get regularly lifted by some visitors which is a shame. We managed fine though.

We found it hard to find the entrance when first arriving. Reception/ restaurant area is warm & inviting.
Our room was a good size, paying similar to hotel properties, i would expect towels to be included in the room price. Other than that it it was a nice stay. Close to town.

Location virtually in centre of town, but very quiet. Easy and free parking. Rooms spotlessly clean and staff super friendly and helpful. Excellent kitchen and lounge facilities -en suite rooms very comfortable. Coffee, tea, alcohol and light snacks available most of day until 9-10pm. Continental breakfast good. Many wine bars, restaurants and cafe within easy walking distance catering for all prices. This not a hotel but YHA so bunk beds but very comfortable and excellent value for money. (Do not expect chocolates on pillow).

I've not stayed in a YHA for many many years - but so delighted to find they are still going strong and are embracing all who come .... including those like me who are older "youth".
The bed was single, but comfy and the bedding nice and warm. I was in a room for 5, but had it all to myself. Good shower, and bathroom facilities en-suite.
All the staff I met were extraordinarily friendly, welcoming and kind. The cafe area had good selection of food and drinks. Breakfast was great. The room - and the shared areas - were clean. Good supply of local area walks; tourist places; Lindisfarne tide times and bus timetable. I will definitely consider staying in a YHA again on my next trip.

What a fantastic place, a great location, a lovely town and friendly people. I stayed with a friend but will be coming back with family soon. The chap on the desk was very accommodating too and let us put our motorbikes in a secure part of the courtyard. Highly recommended
