I wish I could give this place zero stars. The experience was disappointing from start to finish. When we arrived, we were forced to sit where they wanted, and when we requested to change seats, it turned into unnecessary drama. We arrived at 11 a.m. and asked for coffee, tea, or matcha—basic beverages—but they had none available. The waitstaff was incredibly rude, unhelpful, and clueless about the menu or what was actually in stock. After finally placing our order, it took them an hour to inform us that none of the items we selected were available. When we asked what was available, they couldn’t give us an answer. To make matters worse, as we tried to re-order, the waiter rudely walked away mid-conversation. Then it started raining. We wanted to move from the beach to the pool area for shelter, but they refused unless we paid an additional fee. There were no umbrellas provided at the beach, so we were essentially expected to sit there and get drenched. Frustrated, we moved to the restaurant, where they struggled to locate our order and told us it would take another 45–50 minutes to prepare. Adding insult to injury, we discovered that the juice we initially wanted at the beach—which they claimed they didn’t have—was suddenly available at the restaurant. After all this, we decided to speak to a manager, and all they offered was a measly 10% discount on the final food bill. This was, without a doubt, one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had.

Makani is beautiful. When booking, please be mindful that this resort is not located on the mainland, but on an island. Cartagena is 20 minutes away by speedboat. The boat ride to the island was an adventure. If you are looking to party and be up all night wandering the city, then do not book here! This is a great place for quiet, reflection, and relaxing.
Upon arrival, We were greeted to a nice cool drink and staff that were friendly. If you do not speak the language, Google translator is a must!
The room was beautiful. However, the showers are hot or cold, never warm. I enjoyed the private jacuzzi. It felt like sitting in my own oasis.
One downfall is the cost of food and drinks. 1 bottle of water is over $2 usd if you add in the tip and service tax. French fries is about $7. We ordered 2 Tequilla sunrise and was charged for separate ingredients… orange juice! Tequilla… until a discussion was had.. so be sure to look before signing the receipt. Overall this was a great experience. I would recommend staying here. I give this place 4.5 stars!

Beautiful view, relaxing vibes, great staff. Had a great trip staying me and my wife. Good was good ambience was better. We will definitely be returning. Rooms were clean spacious and comfortable. Service was friendly jf not a little slow at times. Loved every bit of our makani vacation

Peaceful Retreat
An amazing peaceful resort that reminded me of my stays on small islands in Fiji without the 14 hour flight.
Communication from hotel is great. They tell you to meet at a tent on the beach and helpful boat staff take care of all luggage. Some mention the boat ride is rough, but for us both directions was a pleasant ride. Staff greet you upon arrival at island. Check in was easy and fast.
We staying in the villa that overlooks the water. Private pool is clean and everything in room is perfect.
Important to know that this resort is a day club. Stayed 3 nights and generally about 10-20 people come from 11-5.
Before 11 and after 5 we had the entire resort to ourselves or would see at most 4 other guests.
Food in restuarant was excellent. There are 6 dogs they live on property. If you hate dogs the staff will chase them away, but we were the opposite and they are super cute. One spent the night with us and kids will enjoy the small friendly dogs.
Read the fine print about where your lounge chairs will be. As a hotel guest, you are below the pool, in front of a wall before the beach because the pool chairs are for day club guests. 3 of 4 days we were given great spots at the pool and only 1 day placed on the sand.
Service is excellent, but almost no English if you care about that.
Overall; incredible room and property. Alone at restaurant for breakfast, nice people come for the day and then deserted late afternoon once again.

Las instalaciones son excelentes , agradables y muy bien decoradas. los habitaciones son demasiado cómodas y bonitas . El personal en su mayoría no es cálido ni amable .a excepción del señor que te recibe en la playa para transportar las maletas ( Leonardo Mendoza que es muy amable ) Claramente hay un problema gerencial el servicio es lento y equivocado . Te entregan pedido que no ordenaste , y cuentas que no son las tuyas . El SPA no es para nada relajante . Estás expuesto a todo lo que pasa en la playa . Música ruido . Sin ninguna privacidad.

Tivemos ótimos dias no Makani, o hotel é super novo, o quarto era amplo e muito confortável. A comida do hotel também foi excelente, e os funcionários extremamente prestativos. Ótimo lugar para descanso.
