Great location, friendly/helpful staff. Fine views from the bar and restaurant. Parking is expensive at £20 per night. Room was clean and decent, but overall it’s a little bit tired, with Wetherspoons-like carpet, worn paintwork, creaky doors etc. It could certainly do with a spruce up. Spa was very good.

The Macdonald Old England Hotel is well situated, being just a stones throw from the lakeside and the shops in Bowness. The staff are friendly and obliging and the service matches their attitude. The breakfasts are fine, although the staff can sometimes be a bit slow in replenishing the tureens. We did not use the Spa, so we cannot comment on that. Overall, we found the hotel to have all the facilities that we were lookling for and we would be happy to stay there again.

The hotel's swimming pool is very comfortable. We stayed in a room on the top floor with a skylight, but the skylight did not block out the light, which affected our sleep. The mattress was too soft.

The hotel facilities are a bit old, but the breakfast is delicious and the scenery is very, very good. It is really pleasant to have breakfast looking at the lake view outside the window! The hotel as a whole is completely British style, which is a good experience!

The hotel has a swimming pool, and children can also go there. Hotel breakfast: quite rich, not many foreign breakfasts... Transportation: Take 599 or 559 at the Lake District Railway Station to get to the hotel stop. Don’t take the wrong direction, otherwise you will have to walk in the mountains for an hour... Don’t ask me how I know... Fortunately, the scenery in the mountains is beautiful, and there are several small towns can see
