Located in a stunning historic setting, the accommodation impresses with spacious rooms and friendly staff. However, some guests were disappointed with the breakfast service due to issues with food quality and long waits.

Along with other recent reviews of Llangoed Hall, our visit left a fair bit to be desired.. but I must stress, this is NOT the fault of the staff. We only saw two people who worked there the whole time who did their best but you could tell the stress of the situation was getting to them...! Surely a hotel of this size and status should have 10-15 people at least to ensure everything is as it should be and as is promised on the website?? Interesting Hotels (the company that currently owns it) need to take a long hard look at itself as the overwhelming feeling is that a lovely building with an amazing history is being run into the ground... a pitiful shame. Just one example.. we went for stroll around the grounds before we left. On one of the benches were several glasses (a pint glass and a couple of wine glasses).. they were full with rain water so had been there for some considerable time. Probably left after a wedding reception as there were traces of rotting confetti around. Not a good look...

Stayed here for a close friends wedding. The building itself is stunning, but there were issues unfortunately with our stay. There was no one on reception so had to ring the bell and wait for a member of staff to arrive. Not very welcoming! No help offered with bags etc. The tie backs on the curtains in our room were torn and carpets on the top stairs in the house almost threadbare. At the wedding the food service was slow, but the actual food was delicious. Breakfast was all pre cooked self service buffet, nothing made to order which was disappointing for the cost of the stay.At the wedding, we were unable to put drinks onto our room bill, and we were told it was policy at all their weddings. Had to run up two flights of stairs to grab some money! All in all disappointing !

Pity that this “fine dining” establishment no longer holds the Food Standards Agency highest rating. The plaque which should be prominently displayed is hidden in a side passage despite Welsh legislation that requires it to be in a prominent position. We have been going to Llangoed on a regular basis for many years but standards have definitely slipped; the web site still shows the “old” team but they are no longer there [web site not updated]. Brian, who always kept impeccable standards & service has gone. No one met us on arrival & the whole place was short staffed. Our bathroom basin tap was not secured, shower doors were not attached & the power shower dribbled pathetically. Small touches like morning tea & wakeup call no longer. Shame as it used to be “home from home”.

We have just returned from our wedding at Llangoed Hall. Everything was perfect and I cannot express how amazing our whole experience was. Abbey & Jeremy truly are the best team! From start to finish we cannot have asked for a warmer welcome and more special day. Everything was beyond our wildest expectations. Truly the best team from start to finish! We’d once again like to thank Abbey for coordinating such a beautiful event. Your knowledge and guidance through the planning process and knowing that we had somebody so knowledgeable and passionate in our corner gave us so much peace of mind. Thank you once again for everything! Our special day would not have been the same without you! 💗

Didn’t read any prior reviews. Met up as 2 couples. Location and grounds stunning. The hotel itself is very grand and like stepping back in time. Room was great and bathroom superb. Had tea and coffee served in the drawing room and then dinner in the rest. Limited menu but excellent food and our waitress was lovely. Very close to Hay on Wye for a trip out on Sunday.

I have read all those awful reviews and want to be a bit more positive. I booked through Secret Escapes, so got my room cheap and it was amazing. The whole hotel is out of this world - full of art and objects d'art and so beautiful. I wandered round the gardens, maze and orchard and have never seen so many different types of wild mushrooms growing. There are wonderful lounges to sit in and a games room and a lot of books! All the furniture is lovely and although there aren't many members of staff, those who I spoke to were really nice. I had Room 9 - it was MASSIVE and had a huge canopied bed and a sitting area and there was even an extra telly in the bathroom! It was so peaceful and quiet at night and because of the lack of light pollution, I could see the beauty of the night sky outside my window. I accept a lot of the gripes other people have mentioned but really, as a working class person I don't usually get a chance to stay in what is effectively a stately home for 120 quid!

Visited this hotel last week and..... Yes the scenery is beautiful and very grand driveway to Hotel I had already contacted hotel and asked if we could have a 1st floor room due to recent knee operations ,we were told room 18 I asked if this was top floor, yes so did explain about my phone call, very prompt she came back to say 15 was available, great then she said " oh can't book the restaurant for our evening meal as it was fully booked " Room was OK , bit tired looking ,no welcome shortbread or sherry. Breakfast well .... no one to show you to your seat,no explanation about where anything was.Go into room and coffee was in an urn, cereal and continental breakfast on a round table in middle, cooked items in silver hot plates toaster to the side so what's the problem? NO ROOM ,very difficult to turn around without bumping into someone, may I suggest move that massive globe into another room and utilise the space better The grounds were nice and nice to see the fresh vegetables. Did have the evening meal which was nice. I feel that this hotel is relying on the views for the WOW factor and really the guest experience comes second. It is such a beautiful hotel just needs to be loved by guests. To me it was a step back in time "Downton Abbey" and could be brilliant.

We had a very enjoyable 3 days at the hotel. We had a good deal through Secret Escapes which gave us good value. I wouldn’t pay full price for the hotel. Could go with two or three more staff. Excellent breakfast and dining - would return on another trip.
