On the plus side - a splendid location. The room was clean and comfortable with views past the opposite houses over the river valley. The bar and eating area were what was expected from an atmospheric old pub. Breakfast was fine with a reasonable choice. On the minus side - Food On arrival we were asked for our breakfast choices . We weren't offered the option of a change for the second morning, but were delivered that same choice as for our first morning The evening meal was lacking inspiration and seemed to have originated from a catering pack Arrival On booking there's a section asking what time you expected to arrive. I chose between 15:00 and 16:00 Arriving at 15:30 - the pub was locked and closed. Despite knocking loudly on the door, it wasn't answered. By then we were wondering if like so many others the pub had ceased business and wondered we would need to find alternative accommodation to spend the night I tied to phone, but the areas is remote and in a valley, so there's no mobile signal. We decided to drive out of the valley and after several miles managed to get a signal. No answer from the Inn, so left a message. My call wan't returned Tried phoning again at around 16:30 leaving another message. My call wasn't returned Returned to the Inn at 17:00 and again knocked on the door. Walking to the rear of the property I saw staff inside, but my very loud knocking was ignored. At 17:45 a gentleman arrived and asked if we were about to check in. I explained we'd been trying to check in from 15:30. I received a very brief, insincere and reluctant sounding apology, before being shown to the room Not a great welcome and a pretty poor start to two days in the area

Just got home from a 3 night stay in this charming olde worlde inn. When we arrived we were greeted by a very funny man who made us laugh and showed us to our room and booked us a table for dinner. Our room was quite small but beautifully clean and very cosy with a lovely view of the river. We had a few issues with the bathroom. The shower wasn't very powerful unless you wanted it scolding hot so we used the bath instead and the toilet seat was loose and the seal kept falling off the bottom of the bath screen but once again everything was beautifully clean. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice. We also had an evening meal on our first night here which was lovely and the service was super quick. All the staff were really friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

A very friendly hotel with a nice bar. The food is not box standard, everything cooked fresh. Bespoke breakfast. The check time for me was a bit too early 10am as I am not an early riser. All cutlery etc were very clean. One issue with always seem to be overlooked is the actual tables. They were sticky. A good wipe is not enough.

Great stay. Fishing break. Ideally located for the river (Trout day ticket £3.50 from Barbrook Filling Station 10 min drive away). Handy parking next to the pub. Room 4 was very clean and comfortable. Food was excellent, Pie and Chips spot on, superb Sticky Toffee pudding and custard, great breakfast (you can tell a quality sausage and bacon). Can recommend the Salcombe Pale Ale. Love the internal look of the Inn, these style of pubs are a treasure to be kept and looked after, you’re in for a treat if you’re a fan of the artist Mick Cawston (as I am) as they have a lot of his works on the walls. Friendly staff. Lots of great walks from the pub, think would be lovely in the autumn with the colours, and a fire going.

The Rockford inn was a most pleasant and restful inn to stay, we had a very clean and comfortable room with just the sound of birds and the river. From the inn there are some amazing walks and scenery. The hosts were friendly and very accommodating the food was delicious and the bar had friendly locals that made you feel even more welcome. The Rockford Inn is definitely somewhere I would book again in the future.

Brilliant place for some well earned food and drink before hiking back to waters meet. Lovely chips, cosy log fire and welcoming landlord. Can’t speak for the accommodation but have been in twice for food during our walks. Happy to accept a saturated Labrador pup inside too!

This pub is beautifully remote. The food is always great and the people working there are so lovely. I introduced this place to friends and they love it too! Fabulous place to stay. The river at the front is stunning and a walk along it to Watersmeet should always be done.....whatever the weather

Had a couple of days here over a weekend and found the pub cosy and comfortable. Really nice welcome from the couple managing the pub and the food and beer was good, (especially the full English breakfast). One thing, the river across the road was quite noisy but not surprising really, as the good old Devonshire weather lived up to its name, it poured down most of the weekend causing the river to be like a torrent. Thank you for looking after the wife and I so well, would definitely stay here again
