We visited the Island Inn in late September 2024 as a family of 6, all over the ages of 21. So first let’s talk about the positives. Its location makes it very convenient for both Bridgetown and St Lawrence Gap, each location being about a mile and a half away. As well as the Garrison Racecourse being just up the road, where you’ll be able to see some mornings the horses being ridden around the track. As an extension of this, if you wake up early enough (6AM roughly) you’ll be able to see the horses being exercised at Pebble Beach at the bottom of the road. There are even opportunities to ride these horses, so a great experience if you’ve never seen that before. Our room had excellent air conditioning, and clean beds and towels each day which was handy. It’s a quiet hotel, so perfect for those just looking to fully relax with a book during the day. Probably not ideal for those that want things to do during the day, and there is entertainment every other night. Worked for us as we played cards in the courtyard of an evening. Food was excellent, even though it was a set menu most nights and lunches, there was always something everyone in our party would eat. Breakfast was sometimes lackluster, with food running out and not being topped back up and the pastries left much to desire, the croissants looked like they’d been sat on. The Staff were the stand out in this hotel, special mentions to Elsie, who made such an effort to get to know our party and whose sense of humour kept us entertained the whole holiday. Her dancing left us all to shame and her smile is infectious, she’s an asset to the team! Terry as well, he was on the bar most days and nothing was too much trouble, again making the effort to get to know us. Other mentions go to Ann, who was so knowledgable about the food being served and any questions we had. As well as Sharon in the restaurant, who was always smiling. I will say, you get what you give so one of my tips would be to get to know the staff, in such a small hotel, you’ll see them regularly and they are all so friendly, it really did elevate the holiday for me. Now sadly there are some things to pick on. There are building works currently happening. We weren’t notified of this until we arrived at the hotel and were offered nothing to compensate for this impact on our experience. We didn’t mind until the bar was closed and relocated into the conference room which is also doubling as the restaurant. We found Terry didn’t have much space to move around and there is no sink available in there, so we didn’t want to inconvenience him by asking for blended drinks. The courtyard is a building site, and little to no progress is made during the day it seems, so beware if you’re coming in October, the bar may still be in the conference centre and the courtyard a building site. We were in the courtyard rooms and we couldn’t sit on our balcony as the builders, when they were there, were using a hand sander, coating our balcony in sawdust.
