Oh my goodness. If heaven was a pub this would be it! Beautiful & charming with gorgeous soft lighting & candles, giving a lovely ambience. Wonderful staff. Absolutely delicious food! Rooms very comfortable. Pretty beer garden. Will not hesitate to stay again next time we have an early flight - what a gorgeous way to start a holiday! Well done all at The George.

Stayed here last Friday before an early flight, what a fabulous find! Ideal location from the airport, the room was small but had everything you needed. The pub was so cosy, lovely outside section where we enjoyed a few drinks in the sunshine. We had some great food, all the staff were lovely and friendly. We left at 4 am but there were pastries and access to teas and coffees if we wanted. Can't wait to come back again! 2 tiny things, there was no shower gel in the shower (hadn't been topped up) and no hairdryer but luckily found a storage cupboard which had one and also extra towels etc.

Stayed over night before flying from Bristol next day. All rooms are themed and named after a famous George, we stayed in 'Custer' . ( Never knew that was the Generals first name) Room was warm, clean and comfortable. Food in the restaurant was a bit pricey but very nice. An excellent stop off point before starting holidays.

Just wanted to let you know how enjoyable our stay was with you on Friday night. The room was lovely and exceptionally clean. We had dinner in the restaurant which was really great. The food was cooked beautifully. Your staff couldn’t do more for us and catered for my food allergies without fuss. We both really felt welcomed. Please convey our thanks to your staff and yourself for a job well done. We would highly recommend The George and will hopefully return when we’re in the area. Thank you again for a lovely stay.

Very poor Sunday lunch. No real ale even though they had 3 different pumps! ...how can you run out of beer? Lunch was overpriced, cold, small portions. Chicken was under cooked. Lots of items on menus unavailable...probably due to same person who completes stock control on the beer! I would definitely not return...gone down hill. You can do better elsewhere.

Tired place in need of winning back it’s large local customer base - it’s soul less now and much much much gone downhill - it should give the hotel business a rest ( close it ) and concentrate on financing it’s reopening with local money spent by customers eating and drinking in a nice place every day if every week… a certainty to close if it doesn’t !!

We used to visit The George regularly, but haven't been for a year or so. Five of us pre-booked and expressly asked to be seated in the conservatory (where we always sat before). The booking was confirmed, but when we arrived, no tables were set in the conservatory, After checking at the bar, we were told we could sit there, and that the table would be made up for us. We sat down and went to order some pre-dinner drinks and set up a tab - only to be told that we couldn't do that is unless we sat in the bar area (we even offered to leave a bank card behind the bar!). After moving inside to another table (where we didn't want to be), we were presented with a very limited menu. Two of us ordered chicken and ham hock pie - only to be told that they didn't have any. We ended up with a dry chicken schnitzel served with a little gem lettuce and some bland salad dressing. The chips were the only good part of the meal. My wife chose a haloumi salad which was very insubstantial. Service was painfully slow, but the plates were eventually cleared away. We were sat facing a blackboard advertising "a hot drink and mini pudding" but when we tried to order it, we were told "we don't do that any more" (so why not remove the board???). I eventually opted for a fruit crumble, which was good. When the bill came, we asked to split it three ways (which we have done many times here and elsewhere with no issues) but were told that one person would have to pay the full amount and sort it out (by bank transfer) with the others! It's a lovely pub, but, under the new owners, customer-service is clearly based on the Fawlty Towers model. We'll go to the Rising Sun next time!
