Wow! A stunning place to spend our wedding anniversary. We were upgraded to the bridal suite. The house is very cosy and comfortable: log fires, big settees, warm decor and best of all, friendly, welcoming staff. The meals were delicious. Friends recommended it to us and we've passed on that recommendation. We're sure to return.

Had the most wonderful one nights stay here in mid November - this is our second visit to this lovely hotel. We travelled up to spend the Saturday at York Christmas markets and spent the late afternoon and evening at Burythorpe House - 30 minutes drive away, before going to the nearby Castle Howard after breakfast on the Sunday - 15 minutes away. The trip was for my mums 75th birthday and has become a bit of a tradition! We used to stay in York but found Burythorpe House last year and much prefer this ‘home from home’ with beautiful and peaceful surroundings, excellent service, friendly staff and fabulous food! At half the price of a central York hotel at this time of year! The rooms are very well appointed with everything you need and are spotlessly clean, both our evening meal and breakfast was delicious - and the views are stunning! We were lucky enough to be entertained by the ‘resident’ saxophonist who had been booked for both of our visits! Mum was made up that he was there again for this stay! After dinner we spent the evening in-front of a roaring fire with a few drinks. A huge thank you to and recognition of Alison, the hotel manger, who went out of her way to get to know us, had mum in fits of laughter with her tales and really added to our stay. She epitomises this hotel and the personal touch they deliver on, she made mum feels so special and even sent us a glass of champagne to celebrate mums birthday! We cannot wait to return - we thought about bringing dad and my husband but decided to keep this special place as our mum and daughter girlie treat! Fabulous place!

25 Years too long. We stayed here in something like 1998 before we were married and enjoyed it enormously then. The place is out in the sticks but was warm, friendly and inviting back then. We came back 25 years and three kids later for Valentines Day and I have to say it was an amazing stay. Staff are wonderful, friendly, attentive and smart. We had a fantastic evening meal and breakfast and sat with drinks next to a wood fire in a lovely bar area. Please egive this place a go if you want well appointed rooms and great traditional service and atmosphere. We won't wait another 25 years to come back. Loved it.

Excellent old fashioned hotel with modern amenitie Excellent service and breakfast. Dinners here were always good but some years since I sampled them. Old fashioned friendly efficient service. The hotel is in the middle of the countryside accessed by minor roads which may not suit some people.

Character property in a glorious rural setting Set in a beautiful rural location, where you observe lush green rolling hills. Super peaceful and the local area is very well kept. The hotel maintains lots of original property features. I felt so relaxed as the hotel was cosy, well equipped and the beds are really comfortable. I’d love to return in summer to play on the tennis court and sit outside.

Definitely Recommend Lovely hotel, we stayed here 5 years ago and said we'd return them. Once again didn't disappoint, the rooms were lovely and a few things to keep the kids occupied - tennis court, gardens and board games in the lounge area. 5he food is amazing - definitely recommend the Whitby Scampi and chocolate brownie xx
