Hospes Palacio de Arenales & Spa

The hotel itself is located just a mile away from Caceres which when passing through it and on the approach to the hotel appeared to be a heavily built up, semi industrial and populated area with high rise flats. On arrival it may take you a few minutes to figure out where reception is as all the signs around the hotel are tiny and far from user friendly. The rooms themselves are quite well appointed with the usual coffee making facilities, TV, a safe, hairdryer etc. There is a small mini bar but be warned it is overly expensive, for example a small bag of crisps is €5 and a small bottle of coke is €6 The staff are all very friendly, courteous and helpful In a so called 5* even in this warm climate you would not expect to find any trace of black mould in the shower/bath area. However, in our room there was and it was clear to see. Non secure parking is available in the car park, however considering the nearby surrounding area if you are on a motorbike you may want to consider booking a place in the underground garage. This is secure but even for a motorbike it will cost you €15 per night. This hotel and its grounds are vast and it has a lovely pool with a relaxing poolside bar and other quiet chilling areas. The restaurant serves very nice, well presented food and the breakfast is very very impressive. A nice hotel but typically for a 5* hotel (Really a 4* with a Spa) they have maximised every opportunity to help you empty your wallet.
Gran Hotel Don Manuel

We chose this hotel for its location and the private parking. We reserved 2 nights, but only stayed one. We arrived in the afternoon and noticed that the room was full of dust. The door handles were rusted. The small fridge was still dirty inside. This shows that they are not even cleaning it. The sheets were very thin and worn out. Both sheets and comforter were so worn out that they had a light gray color. The bathroom was in need of a good deep cleaning. A lot of dust and scratched areas. We cleaned some areas and all handles with some hand sanitizing wipes that we had brought and removed as much of the dust as possible. At that time, it was too late to find another hotel in the area, so we decided to enjoy Caceres and leave the next day. We checked on hotel.com and were able to add a night to the next hotel on our trip. We did not even unpack. We enjoyed Caceres the entire day and stayed out until late at night. The next day we left early to enjoy more of Caceres. At 2:00pm, after we had lunch, we returned to the hotel to check out. We didn’t want to waste our time giving details to the front desk person, we just wanted to leave. There was nothing this hotel was going to do to keep us there another night. It was not just the dirty room, the overall feel of the hotel just wasn’t right for us. This hotel has a lot of people coming in and out, which explains the wear and tear of the place, but not the dirty conditions. She was very apologetic that we wanted to leave, even though we didn’t complain we just said we wanted to leave, and said that she was going to call hotels.com to see if they could refund that night, but she didn’t think they would and explained something about how they pay them, etc. We told her we did not want a refund. We used the hotel to keep our luggage (we even put the do not disturb sign) and used the parking so we could stay late to enjoy more of Caceres, but now we wanted to leave. She then checked us out, we paid parking and left. When you check in, the front desk puts the room keys inside a box that seemed to be sanitizing the plastic card with ultra violet rays, yet he touched our passports and handed them back to us. They key process is more for a show. They need to pay more attention to what their cleaning staff is not doing. Judging from the amount of people that were there, they might be doing a very quick turn around on those rooms. That is not good, especially during this pandemic. We noticed a previous comment from “Juan Torres, Director General at Gran Hotel Don Manuel” stating they refunded us the money for that night. I rewrote this review to address his comment. Sr Torres, that is not true. We checked our credit card today, in case we missed it, all we have is the parking charge from this hotel. Had there been a refund, it would have come from hotels.com because we booked through them and paid in full through them. It is shameful that a “Director General” would come on here to lie and attack a g
Parador de Jarandilla

This was our 4th visit to this Parador over a number of years. each time in September. We enjoyed it much less than previously. On this occasion, because of a mobility issue we had to have one of the rooms accessible via the lift. This faced the car park, was quite dark, smaller than previous rooms, and had a quite absurd bathroom. The standard 2 basin had been placed where there was just not enough width, so one had to more or less go sideways to get into the bathroom. If one of us was using a wash basin, it was impossible to get in the bathroom. We stayed 4 nights, having dinner twice. On the first night service was very slow which we assumed was due to a large group in another room. However it was worse the next day. We waited from 8 30pm until 9 before even being given a menu. I searched for one but couldn't find any. The food itself was nice enough. First impressions were not as before, because the patio, which is magnificent still had awnings etc, left over from previous days wedding. These were taken down during the following day. On a positive note, reception staff were very helpful. Staff at breakfast were also very helpful.
Hospedium Hotel Valles de Gredos Golf

We stayed overnight whilst travelling the hotel is nice and the views from the room are stunning The hotel was very quiet and we had to find staff so we could get a drink by the pool. We ate in the restaurant the food was nice and the staff were all very friendly. The hotel has a lot of promise but seems to be lacking something- ambience/ atmosphere?? It’s a shame
