We had a lovely weeks holiday in the Bernat II as a family of 4 (kids aged 14 and 15). The hotel is immaculate and very welcoming, and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Our family room was on the small side but very comfortable, with a view overlooking the pool (but no sea view). We went half board, and the breakfast and evening meals were excellent - buffet style, loads of choice, hot and cold, with enough variety from day to day to keep it interesting. One of our kids is a fussy eater and even he really enjoyed it. There’s plenty to do, with pool tables, arcade games, table tennis etc., and a small but well laid out swimming pool (neither pool nor sun beds got too crowded). The location is handy for the beach (3 minutes walk) and the town, with plenty of little shops and cafes. There’s a small but well stocked supermarket right opposite the hotel. The beach has gritty sand, but loads of space. Sea was lovely, but little in the way of shallows so less suitable for little children. On a couple of days when the sea was calmer we saw loads of fish whilst snorkelling. Calella has a lovely beach front promenade, and the short walk up to the lighthouse is rewarded with some wonderful views. We did notice that most of the hotel guests - and visitors to Calella generally - were from Spain and elsewhere in Continental Europe, with very few British, which wasn’t a problem at all for us. It helped to know a bit of Spanish, as not everyone in the town speaks English.
