Smy Tahona Fuerteventura
3.4/542 Reviews
When visiting this hotel take the reviews with a pinch of salt - you need to remember it's a three star hotel. It's located 5 minutes from some fantastic bars which are priced better than the south of England! The staff at SMY are wonderful, they couldn't do enough! Shout out to Joanna and Maria as they are lovely (think their names are correct, it's been a few weeks!) the rooms are dated yes but realistically if you're there to tan and go out who cares for the price. The couch is comfortable, the bed I'd recommend getting a second pillow as the pillows are at little thin as are most hotel pillows. The pool is great, there is a heated section, a kiddie pool and a main pool which goes from waist height to the full 2m. Sun beds you need to be quick to get in the morning but you get full sunshine for most of the day when you do! The entertainer is pushy but in a good way - I've never done aqua aerobics before or water polo until I came here but I massively enjoyed taking part. Bingo and karaoke is fun in the evening, especially as all holiday makers will cheer eachother on! The pool bar has a small assortment of alcohol but you will find something you like without issue. The outside area is incredibly clean, you'll see staff early in the morning (if you're awake!) scrubbing the pool. Restaurant is hit and miss, I don't recommend the Indian night if you're a fussy eater but Asia night is incredible - fantastic sushi and some of the best sweet and sour chicken I've ever had. There is always something to eat at each serving so you won't go hungry. I do wish that they did the cheddar cheese that was served on the day we arrived versus the canary cheese that was served the rest of the week but that's personal preference. Overall it's great for the price and I would go again if I went back to Fuertaventura
Apartamentos Castillo Beach

I arrived at Castillo in the early evening of October 2nd 2023 as a solo traveller. Having left home some 8 hours previously, I felt tired , hungry , and thirsty and was therefore looking forward to being welcomed to my apartment quickly and efficiently as a holidaymaker. Instead I found myself face to face with a surly and charmless young man who ran through the check in procedure in a bored and disinterested fashion before thrusting a grainy and badly photocopied map into my hand in order to find my apartment myself amongst hundreds of similar white bungalows in the complex At this point I might add I’m the only traveller checking in at that point. Some 45 minutes later I find my apartment after walking round the complex umpteen times , if the check in guy had removed himself from behind the desk and simply pointed to a gate 50 yards up the road all this could have been avoided. The apartment was tired looking , sagging curtains , broken sofa bed , the main beds were uncomfortable metal frame affairs with a mismatched wooden headboard jammed up between them and the walls No air con , simply antiquated ceiling fans/lights which were hard to figure out to keep running without the lights on. Kitchenette appallingly equipped . Something scuttles when I open a cupboard Blocked drains emitting foul odours in the bathroom The roads around the complex are shocking , featuring broken manhole covers , broken electrical boxes , discarded rubbish lying around , and oh watch out for cars randomly crossing your path without warning from the strange little mini roundabouts which allow cars to zoom in front of people in a pedestrian zone. Also beware the electric scooters hacking around everywhere I think I had 3 room service visits in a fortnight , and despite paying for late checkout on my last day I then had a cleaner wondering why I was still there at 12 , I had to google the words paid late check out to get rid of her , obviously someone hadn’t done their job! Finally if you come here and are not particularly fit , it’s approximately 1 1/4 miles to the nearest beach , despite saying beach resort and a steep uphill climb on the return I’m sure Castillo will give the standard reply to this review , but you need to revamp your rooms , employ staff that are good with people , repair your roads , look after your grounds properly , including using the irrigation system in order to avoid the eyesore of dead plants everywhere, last but not least some general information given to guests and proper signage around the place would greatly help!
Elba Castillo San Jorge & Antigua Suite Hotel
4/542 Reviews
Lovely hotel, exceptionally clean and the staff are lovely too, they even left a bottle of cava in our room on my birthday! The beds are the comfiest I have ever slept on in the whole of the Canaries. Entertainment is great as well, good to keep the kids amused. We will definitely be back here. WiFi is not great and there is no air conditioning in the rooms, a little tip is to open the bathroom and bedroom window, it allows the room to cool to a comfortable temperature. These are the only faults I could find in my time here, all the plus points certainly outway the not so good points, hence why we will definitely come back here.

As many reviews mention this hotel is a little run down and tired looking, but this did not have an impact on our holiday. Checking in was quick and the room was spacious and clean if a little dated, it was also very hot due to no air conditioning . The pool was OK and cleaned daily, we did not have an issue with the opening times. We did feel maybe a few more umbrellas would have been good for those who prefer the shade. We were all inclusive and the pool snacks were good although we feel maybe the alcohol was heavily watered down as the measures were huge yet had no effect although the lack of a hangover was appreciated! The food was repetitive and not much choice, we never went hungry but after 2 weeks we just wanted something different. We did know before we went there was not much around the hotel it is in the middle if nowhere a walk to the next town took 40 mins. The entertainment was mediocre, during the day Giovanni made it he was very Friendly and checked on everyone every morning. We did have a good break but feel maybe 2 weeks was too long due to food and location. If you are looking for a short quiet break we would recommend.
