+ schöne Lage direkt am Meer in der Nähe der Inselhauptstadt Madalena, sehr geschmackvoll eingerichtet - die großen Appartements für Familien bzw. 4-5 Personen liegen alle zur Landseite, obwohl das Haus direkt am Meer liegt und insbesondere Abends ein toller Blick über die untergehende Sonne möglich wäre, haben nur die kleinen Appartements für 2 Personen einen Balkon zum Meer, die großen Appartements haben eine Terrasse, allerdings keinerlei Meerblick und eine laut brummenden Klimaanlage auf der Terrasse, zweites Schlafzimmer in den großen Appartements ist zwar riesig, dafür ganz ohne Fenster nach außen, sonder nur mit Fenster nach innen, Frühstück relativ einfach und einfallslos

Great view, either to the ocean or to the mountain. Surrounded by curral vineyards. We had a very warm welcoming. The hostes is extremely nice and you'll feel at ease, like you know her for a long time. She gave us a map with the main attractions and restaurants. All the restaurants she listed were spor on.
The room is very spacious, and has great amenities. With a full kitchen.
It's in a good location 5 minutes form Madalena.
Don't think you can't get much better than this.

Absolutely AVOID this accommodation. The friendliness of the staff is unquestionable, the availability of the employees exists, but the GREED of the owner is immense and harms all customers, just to earn a few more euros. With a boat canceled due to bad weather and unable to get to the island, I asked for a refund on the accommodation. Despite all the sympathy from the employees, the boss denied this situation, as he had nothing to do with it. A SHAME, it is tourist agents and hoteliers like these who are doing harm to tourism in the Azores and, like many on the island of Pico, very celebrated, but who then become arrogant towards their customers, without realizing that without their customers they are nothing, they end up for wasting away, blaming the employees, the authorities or the isolation... but it's nothing like that, it's the attitude of the owner and owners like this that are bad for Tourism in Portugal. Very comfortable bedding, large bathroom with shower and WC. We spent 4 very relaxing nights there. The only point to improve: the serving of breakfasts, which are also well supplied, on a shelf in the corridor leading to the room: the fresh products would benefit from being refrigerated. Def refer to Susan M review below….she’s spot on. I basically was going to repeat everything she said. The design as previous post wasn’t an issue for us, just kind of deal w it. Stunning views for sure. We didn’t have a rental car upon arrival, but our check in lady got one for us, I can’t recall her name, but she was super sweet n helpful. You will need a car unless u want to walk 50 min to town. Although the walk along the coast through vineyards is nice. Overall, this was a great place to stay but secluded.

On your arrival you are shown a room half in the basement, half overlooking a vacant lot with excavators in action.
they offer you to pay 100 euros more cash to have a quieter room which is not in the cellar...
Deplorable, and on top of that unpleasant and crooked staff!!!!

With a beautiful setting close to the ocean, we stayed in one of the new two-bedroom villas (not the hotel for which most of the reviews are for). There are some design issues including literally no where to put your luggage in the bedroom. Due to exceptionally poor planning on the designer's part, we "opted" for the floor in the main living area. The western facing decks are without any shade creating an overheated interior and a relentlessly hot and uninviting deck in the afternoon. Plantings or some sort of fabric for the shade structure will likely be added. However, the value of the existing villa is not worth the price given these issues. I offered management constructive criticism including the notion that a discount should be built into the price until these issues are resolved as I genuinely want the place to succeed. I encourage you to ask for a discount in advance if these matters remain unresolved. Twenty-four villas are in the works. Note: we were properly warned about construction noise before arriving, to be clear that was NOT an issue.

We spent three nights and were extremely happy with our decision to stay. The room looked exactly like the pictures, tastefully done and comfortable. The staff responded timely to messages before our arrival. Once there they were pleasant and helpful. Definitely recommend Vinhas do Calhau
