Huntington Stables Retreat

We booked the Loft at the Huntington Stables from the 20th through the 24th. Our iPhone GPS gave perfect directions and we had no trouble finding the place. We arrived a bit late and had to call Robyn a few times--she was really kind about it and we made an after-hours arrangement. The Loft was really charming, clean and well-apportioned, not to mention a great price. While 'm not sure why she did it, Robyn upgraded us to the South Stable--a considerable upgrade. The rooms were gorgeous and had everything we needed: great drink and wine selection; lovely clawfoot tub; fabulous shower; exquisite deck; great kitchen--everything was perfect. While we never found (shamefully) time for the sauna, pool or hot tub, they were at our fingertips and ours for the taking. My boyfriend got sick on the last three days of our trip and Robyn brought some amazing ginger wine over for him which I think helped. The location is great. Not only is it an easy drive to the Waitomo Glow Worm Caves, Matamata (Hobbiton), Pio Pio (more Hobbit and LotR filming locations), Rotorua and the Auckland airport, but Cambridge itself has a nice towne center with good restaurants and shopping, and is really close. The pastoral setting was peaceful and picturesque--and not only were we charmed by unbelievable birdsong, bleating sheep and cows, the night sky was breathtaking. Truly, you can't go wrong staying at Huntington Stables. New Zealand is a wonderful place filled with beautiful, non-traditional places to stay, and this is definitely one of them. I'd choose it again in a heartbeat.

The Huntington Stables is a small and beautiful place to stay. My wife and I stayed in the Lodge, which is cozy and has great views of the countryside. We chose this "farmstay" (although I'm not sure I would categorize the property as a farm) because of its proximity to Hobbiton. This place exceeded our expectations in every way. Robyn, the host, is very nice and helpful (and her homemade muesli is fantastic!). She made us feel very comfortable. I would certainly recommend this place if you are staying near the Cambridge area or just need a getaway retreat in the countryside.

If you are an international traveller ; or a couple looking for that special place for your bridal night, honeymoon or a special anniversary or birthday treat that ticks all the boxes then you will not be able to fault Huntington Stables when it comes to rural NZ luxury accommodation. A top quality property offering an exceptional experience.

My husband and I stayed for two nights (24,25 April) in the South Stable - superb! The Stable had just about everything you could think of for a quiet retreat. We wanted somewhere peaceful and we got it. Robyn and Andy were great hosts. Andy drove us into Cambridge (10 minute drive & picked us up again) on our first evening so that we could drink and not worry about driving, awesome hosts. Huntington Stables definitely lives up to its luxury B&B tag. The lavender bathroom products (soap, hand wash, body wash, shampoo & conditioner) are lovely, but it would be great to have the option of unscented soap as well. We spent two weeks in New Zealand and it was all wonderful, but Hunting Stables Retreat was my FAVORITE place we stayed! The owner met us as we pulled onto the property. She had opened all the doors and windows of our suite to the fresh air and had French jazz playing on the sound system to greet us. The room was beautiful and had a wonderful balcony with a lovely view. The bathroom included the most fragrant locally-made lavender soaps and lotions. Breakfast ingredients were provided for us in our kitchen including bacon, fresh eggs from the owner's chickens, tomatoes and lemons grown on the property and the most delicious homemade lemon curd. The only disappointment we experienced was that our schedule only allowed us to stay one night. Stay several if you can. You won't regret it. I dream of going back someday.

What a comfortable, lovely stay! This what more than we could have hoped for...close to town, yet far from traffic. It was a special place to become acquainted with New Zealand. Owner welcomed us and helped us make arrangements for our adventures. Offered to provide ride to town, if we were going to partake in spirits. Cold beverages provided for evening. Delicious local fruit in our room for breakfast. Special treats, which I don't want to spoil all of the surprises! This was our first stop after traveling from USA, what a high bar to have set!

This hotel is just superb. The accommodation is clean, comfortable and well appointed, the views are fantastic and the hosts just can't do enough for you. We will definitely use this hotel again when we return to Cambridge.

My mother, sister, and I stayed in the South Stable in mid-February. We booked this location last minute because our cruise ship experienced a malfunction, so we decided to see New Zealand by land instead of sea. It turned out to be a wonderful experience, particularly since we stayed at Huntington Stables. We were greeted by our hosts, Robyn and Andy, who helped us settle into the beautiful cottage. Personal touches were abundant, including lavender-scented toiletries, welcome desserts, and a concierge-like attention to our itinerary. They helped us book nearby attractions, including Hobbiton, which was quite the experience! It's actually the perfect location to stay for North Island activities, as we were able to visit Hobbiton, Taurunga, Rotorua, Lake Taupo, and Waitomo on day trips all from this location. Perfection! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a truly unique experience with wonderful attention to detail. We look forward to coming back to stay again!!

Absolutely beautiful location we stayed in “South Stable” oh my gosh! The room, the bed, the kitchen the huge bath!! We didn’t want to go home! We will be back for sure!! The hosts are amazing ❤️ The pool and spa are beautiful so private. Listening to the birdsong in the morning was awesome you don’t get that in town!
