We’d checked in to the hotel on line so it wasn’t long before we were relaxing with a cool drink. Staff at reception very helpful. Room was facing the sea as requested (and paid extra for). Luggage got there before us as we nipped into dining room for evening meal. Room spacious, clean and cool. Toiletries provided, robes and hair dryer. Tea and coffee wasn’t replenished in room daily, don’t understand why, but you can get more at the bar if need be. Wide range of food, plenty of choice, likewise with drinks. My tipple this holiday was Aperol spritz, my husband likes whisky which he said was pretty good. Pool bar and surrounding area well kept and clean. Plenty of sun beds, a little table by them would have been handy if you don’t want the little cute lizards and the odd pigeon having a slurp! Staff all very friendly and efficient. There’s access to the ‘prom’ which is a pleasant walk whatever time of day. Free coach to Funchal, we took advantage of this as we wanted to do the cable car and toboggan, which was great fun, definitely recommend! Hotel in quiet area which was perfect for us. Most people there seemed to be couples of all ages, but probably mostly 40+ which could be because of the time of year. Couple of little ones there, but personally don’t think it’s ideal for young families if they want to go to the beach etc. No beach. The pools are down some steps but there are lifts if needed. You can get a lift from the pool up to the 2nd floor and transfer to another lift which takes you to your floor without the need to go through the hotel. (You can go through the hotel too if you prefer) Mentioning this as I heard people saying lifts were needed, so maybe better signage necessary. We booked for the restaurant and had a lovely meal, totally recommend this too. Only thing missing for us is it would have been handy if there was a shop or two in like most Riu’s. Gift shop, snack shop kind of thing. Entertainment every evening if that’s your thing. We preferred to sit outside and enjoy the view. There are also showers available if like us you’re leaving the hotel on your last day in the afternoon.As check out is noon this was great as it meant we could spend the day by the pool and still freshen up before our transfer to the airport. I would recommend this hotel if you want what we did…. Rest, relaxation, good food and drink.
