I have stayed here before, reviewed the hotel, and this is a followup on other experiences. Not all is great. Complain portion at the bottom. Gym: Top facilities for a hotel gym. Everything you need in a gym. Backs Restaurant: Great little restaurant if you have a short stay (less than 5-days). Would be great for a “larger” menu offering at breakfast. Only a couple of options. But food overall good. Unfortunately the main restaurant is closed for renovations and that puts pressure on “Backs” yet again for dinner options. Still good food but limited menu. Entrance to the estate: Ridiculous! It is a time consuming exercise. Stop, where you going? cell phone number, scan driving licence and disc. Such a terrible process. For a world class resort, your systems must surely be able to cater for one code (entrance and exit) during your stay. You know when we depart so why not give one code for entrance and exit during this time? Don’t say it is for security and my (and residents) safety. Security should always be a priority but this is just a bad and inconvenient process. I stayed for 3-weeks and to follow this every time, twice a day, is just ridiculous. There is better ways! Unfortunately the complaints about the access procedure has been coming for years (as I read the reviews) and still it has not changed. Golf: Would still like to play (and review) but not at the requested rate. I have played at many other courses (of same quality) and they are just as good and exclusive but not this expensive. But Still a great stay Will go back

We had a great time staying at this boutique hotel. Everything is in excellent condition, and the views of the vineyards are beautiful. Breakfast was delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed the complimentary wine tasting—the wines come highly recommended. We even had the pleasure of meeting the owner and his wife, who are warm-hearted people. We felt very welcome, and the hospitality at this boutique hotel is truly amazing. Highly recommended, and we will definitely stay here again if we are in the area.

Stayed here for 3 nights and couldn't fault it. Great apartment with all amenties and just a 1 min stroll to the main street, so very central. Wellington was great, staying late because we got delayed arriving and just extremely helpful for our entire stay. Would definitely recommend.

GGuest UserBoschendal Estates must rank as one of THE places to stay in the Stellenbosch area. Surrounded by mountains on one side and rolling meadows on the other, the scenery is spectacular, and the location is ideal for visiting vineyards in the region. The Retreat Cottages where we stayed were charming and the staff at both the Deli and Werf restaurants were most helpful. Special mention for Marylise who went out of her way to accommodate our requirements and Peter our young hiking trail guide who persisted despite a severe allergy attack. Great breakfast at the Werf too!

The facilities are excellent, the staff are outstanding and can’t do enough for you. The restaurant is first class with a great chef and restaurant staff.

We ask for a taste and they welcome us and make us stay in a beautiful room where the sommelier explains a lot about white and red wines and the diversity of the vineyards of the area. It was very nice and also very sympathetic. It tasted a white wine, a rosé and two red wines of two different wines. He told us the history of the holding and the territory, a very good area of production of red wines. We accompanied the taste with the day's fish plate. The atmosphere is wonderful, the food and wine is even more. The explanations and the welcome have done the rest.

HHannah CompionWe booked a room at Stellenbosch Hotel and received an upgrade to stay in their sister hotel - Coopmanshuijs. The hotel came with a porter who parked our car and moved pur luggage on our behalf. We had to check out early morning, so they packed a breakfast box for us. The room was beautiful and comfortable, had wifi and LED charged lights to use during load shedding hours, a mini bar, a bathroom with a bathtub and a shower, and AC. The staff was incredibly kind, professional, and helpful, and we enjoyed the upgrade! It’s located about 5mins from the Stellenbosch Hotel, and close to most shops and restaurants. Highly recommend both hotels when you stay in Stellenbosch!

GGuest UserWe stayed in a Karoo cottage for 2 nights. I had previously stayed (9 years ago) and was disappointed with my experience this time round in comparison. Starting with the good things - the animals and reserve itself were fantastic! Could not fault the length of the game drives, the knowledge of the safari leaders or the quality of service in that respect. We also opted to do a quad bike safari, which was a truly unforgettable and fantastic experience! Notwithstanding this, there were a few issues which we think could be improved: 1. While we understand Aquila is a business and needs to make money, we were shocked to find that no drinks were included (aside from juice and water at breakfast, and a single complimentary beverage on evening game drives). At lunch, dinner and throughout the day guests were required to pay for bottled water to keep hydrated. We paid a lot of money to stay 2 nights in a Karoo cottage so were disappointed that things like water, Coca Cola and locally produced wine were not included in the price. 2. The whole format has become more family friendly and at some points this detracted from the luxury experience expected for the price paid. Buffet food options seemed geared up to children’s needs/preferences and the pool area was often incredibly loud with screaming, shouting and splashing. Our first game drive was completed ruined by sitting next to a couple with a toddler and small baby dot 3 hours. The constant squealing and crying was not the luxury safari experience advertised by Aquila and, more importantly, we were extremely concerned for the baby’s welfare given the jolting of the safari jeep. Not a suitable experience for little ones. 3. A few days prior to our arrival I emailed Aquila indicating that I have a severe food allergy and asked whether this was going to be OK with the buffet food. I never received a response. 4. Our Karoo Cottage itself was nice but a bit dated. We expected something more modern (I.e., bathroom and furniture) for the money paid. Our outdoor area was covered in debris and animal droppings, making it largely unusable. While we appreciate Aquila is a game reserve, things like this could be resolved by housekeeping to give guests better value for money. Overall, we had a good time at Aquila. But we would not recommend or return as we didn't feel the whole price (including the basic refreshments we had to pay for) was worth the money we paid.

GGabriel AMyself and my wife had our wedding reception at the hotel on the 16 June 2024 , we could not have asked for a better wedding reception thank you so much to the Protea Hotel Stellonbosch team you truly went the extra mile to ensure that our guest and us were comfortable and well looked after , a special thank you to Samantha who was brilliant and so accommodating and went out her way to make sure everything was running smoothly we are forever grateful, the food was great and once again thank you to the Stellonbosch team for making our day extra special
