Very old hotel. There is a small courtyard where you can sunbathe and there is a fireplace. The breakfast is also very good. Although the price is not cheap, it is still worth the money.

I originally booked a hotel at random, but unexpectedly, it was surprisingly good! I wanted to book a hotel in Wanaka, but they were all fully booked, so I settled on the Cardrona Hotel between Wanaka and Queenstown! After arriving, I found it on the side of the highway, which was quite disappointing, but! I was shocked when I entered the hotel! There are restaurants and bars in the hotel, all with very retro decoration. Later I learned that the hotel has a history of more than 150 years! The garden behind the hotel is particularly beautiful! Recommended!

This hotel is a hidden gem. It is quaint and charming, and actually delivers a unique experience to customers. It is only 15 mins out of Wanaka and you could drive past without noticing it. We stayed in the Captain's room hidden behind the hotel in a lovely garden area. The room was little but very cosy and beautifully quirky with little thoughtful touches. We indulged in the hot tub before our delicious dinner and enjoyed the view of the mountain peaks. Having stayed in other top rated hotels around the South Island, we cannot recommend this place more highly as it stands out as not just excellent value for money but also creating a lasting memory of somewhere very different in a world of uniform experiences.

This is one of those rare places that you remember. We stopped here ten years ago just for food. This time, we stayed - and it was enjoyable. It's not so much the rooms - they are fine and cosy. A little worn but that is just in keeping with the hotel. The food is excellent, the staff were all good and the scenery is great. What makes the Cardrona Hotel different aside from its "wild western" appearance is that it has it's own "gravity", sort of like airports and village taverns do. Hard to define but it seems to be greater than the sum of its parts.

We stayed for two nights, with family members, in this idyllic spot, to enjoy the beauty of the snow capped mountains and tramp to Meg hut. The hotel has been so well appointed, with cosy rooms and character-filled bar and restaurant. The attention to detail and flair for authenticity provide a truly wonderful stay.

Great place to stay. Location is of course excellent but rooms are warm and having the restaurant on site makes it so easy. The outdoors area out the back is great for the warmer days. and a playground for the kids. Price very reasonable for the location.

I have to admit to being slightly in love with this place. Anytime we visit the south island we make a special trip to the Cadrona for lunch and a beverage. It never fails, the meals are the best, but be warned the portion sizes are as if your grandmother is serving you, massive! We appreciate it so much here, the food is delishes and has a home cooked feel, the feel ans energy of the pub is second to none. Take it in a enjoy!

We had a great stay at the Cardrona Hotel. Whilst small the room we had was warm, totally charming and had a lovely rustic quality about it without skimping on comfort. The bed, pillows and linen were perfect and the bathroom was squeaky clean. There was some road noise due to the location from early morning but ear plugs sorted that for us - a tiny compromise for staying in such an historic place.
