Carlsbad by the Sea Hotel

I would not stay here again. The staff was friendly and helpful, but the room itself was lacking. Outdated bathroom with a bathtub that had nothing to keep you from skipping to the bathroom tile that just as slippery even with the floor towel. The room was big and clean with a nice bed but the lugging was awful. There were 2 side tanks lamps, 1 floor lamp, and a desk lamp(didn't work). Even with the 3 that worked out was still very dimly lit. The pipes in the wall sounded like they were going to bust when a another room would turn on their water. It was so loud. When I booked this room it said it was a 3 star hotel, more of a 2. Without the staff a 1. There not being an elevator to the second floor was tough. Then there were 2 sounds at night. One sounded like something cheering on wood above me, and the other was something tapping on the wall. There was an extra charge when I checked in that wasn't on the site when I booked it. This could be the hotel or this dues fault, bit sure. My rating didn't really reflect the start because of the categories.

The room was very spacious. Loved the hardwood floors and they were clean. It’s very quiet and serene with lots of green plants and trees. Do recommend this hotel for families and they are pet friendly. The front desk girl Debbie accommodated us even though it was 2am she was an amazing help.

Stay away from this place for a while until they learn the new system that Marriott/Bonvoy implemented. Have stayed there probably 15 times in the last 2 years and the new management company has ruined the hotel. Upgrades look good on the outside but internally much much worse customer service. Waited an hour to check in at our 4pm check in time, used to be able to check in early no problem with no line. Both service members in the lobby were way too new to understand the confusing system. I had paid for a specific room and was told none were available clean because they already gave them away to others. What was the purpose of the reservation that was paid for. They didn’t offer any compensation or help. Recently read other reviews from hotels that were taken over by this company. Be very weary of that before booking.

There was a wedding party that had gotten married at the hotel. And because of the tranquil property full of lush greenery and trees it was an amazing experience. Restaurants on all sides of the hotel and a short jaunt to the beach. The rooms are very large and big screen TVs with sliding glass doors to the outside pool or gazebo. Thank you Jillian for such a quick and easy check in. Super highly recommend!!!!

I booked this room for two days, as I planned a trip to Legoland ith my two boys which was conveniently close by. We drove 2 and a half hours away and the front desk said the room was ready early and cleaned prior to our arrival. This was good news as my two boys were tired and needed a good night sleep. Upon entering the room, I noticed the floor was dirty so I decided to pull back the bed sheets and noticed they were dirty and some sort of debris on them. Disgusted by this, I immediately informed the front desk. They sent a housekeeper with new sheets and blankets. I also had them replace the mattress cover and pillows. The housekeeping gal moped the floors as well. This was frustrating as we had to wait until this was completed and my kids were tired and hungry. Once housekeeping was done we left to get dinner. Upon checking out, I informed the day shift manager of the issue regarding the dirty bedding. He said he would notify the general manager and he also provided me with the general managers contact information. I emailed the general manager a Mr. Ramirez twice and no response. It has been over a week and no response. It's too bad as it's a great location with a heated pool which was fun. However I feel my concerns are not important enough for the general manager to contact me.

My room was nice but I didn't like the setting itself. They're undergoing major renovations, so the parking lot is somewhat unmaintained, and the overall vibe is tired and outdated. The numbers on the doors are hard to see (written on strips of tape). The buildings lack numbers or names, so I found challenging to navigate, despite the map. The "lobby" is currently a hotel room (again, hard-to-see signs lead to it). No elevators, stairs only. From the time I checked in shortly before 3, until 8 pm, the wedding venue next door blarred drumming contests (or recitals) that dominated the atmosphere. I got a "deal" on my room from Trip Advisor, but I paid too much for too little.
