We had a truly terrible eight day stay and only stayed because they took the money up front and their terms and conditions did not allow refunds. Overall the staff were rude and defensive when we asked for the basic items and services which we advertised and their default position was to stand around shrugging their shoulders. Firstly the pictures of the rooms on ******* and the hotel site are inaccurate and/or very old, we were given a room with much of the furniture missing, no microwave and a sofa falling apart with no cushions (see pictures). They replaced the sofa with a dirty old one but the table was still broken (picture) and the mismatched seating remained when we left. There are no services such as turndown as advertised, no hairdryer as advertised and even after complaining much of the furniture was just not there. The website talks about luxury and service neither of which we discovered whilst at the hotel. We had to complain about something every day and the manager always apologised but appeared incapable of doing anything about it. We arrived after check-in time to be told that there were no towels so we could not shower and that there were no towels as the laundry man was not due to deliver until later. The hotel clearly had a shortage and a practice for the first few days of taking all towels by 9 am and not replacing them until after lunch. The alleged pool is a decorative pond about 10 paces across with two large trees in it (in islands) and half the remaining area consisting of steps or a ledge creating areas where you cannot swim. We saw no-one in the pool over 8 days even though it was hot. The pool is also next to the main throughway for conference and restaurant attendees so people constantly walked by. The restaurant was a disaster. When we arrived water was pouring into it from the ceiling with an area by the buffet taped off, This was boarded up for the following days. On the first day we ordered salad and sandwiches which took nearly an hour in an empty restaurant and the second and last time we tried a salad took over 45 minutes so we did not try again. We had problems every day for breakfast including: 1. Serving mouldy bread. 2. All the coffee machines not working. 3. All the coffee machines empty (several days). 4. Running out of fruit and coffee (we were told they had too many people in but surely they had booked!). 5 Restaurant emptied of furniture (see picture)_without warning and breakfast not starting until 45 mins late at an alternative location. Apart from the swimming pool issue the elements of a decent hotel are there but the management of the hotel appeared incapable of a) organising their staff to deliver the service, b) Training their staff to offer politeness (the default was surliness), c) empowering the staff to do things and the number of staff standing around whilst empty machines or buffets existed was large. I think this was, perhaps, the worst managed hotel in which I have ever stayed. At the
