Hotel was amazing but the meal was very expensive - no value for money. Ordered the prawn skewers. Menu said King prawn skewers (4) for $19.95. I thought I would get 4 prawn skewers for that price but only got 4 prawns on 1 skewer. Worked out $5 per prawn!

Hotel Corones is an atmospheric old style hotel dating from the 1920s. It is possible to take a tour organised via Rachel’s Clothing Rack or the Visitor Information Centre to understand more of its history. We didn’t but we did look at the display rooms with photos etc. and just enjoyed the ambience. We had access to balcony from our room and enjoyed sitting on long wide balcony overlooking the street. We took a room on first floor with a private bathroom. It was all wood, wooden floors, wooden bed and furniture except for two plastic stools. The small old fashioned wardrobe dresser provides hanging space. There were four pillows and one blanket but the reverse split cycle air conditioner was silent and we kept warm. There was a small wall mounted TV, microwave, mini-fridge (with milk and water), kettle and bowls, plates, cups, glasses and cutlery for two as well as coffee, tea, sugar and small biscuits. There is no wifi, no bedside lights and limited power points. (Part of staying in a historic building). Bug spray was supplied but we didn’t need it. The bathroom has good ventilation. The shower recess has a shower curtain and hand held shower with wall mounted dispensers of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. More dispensers of hand soap, hand and body lotion and shaving cream were by the sink with large wall mirror and space for toiletry kits and extra storage. Good water pressure. There was a sign to say that the town water is from the Artesian Basin. In winter the cold water tap is cold, the hot water tap is hot but in summer the hot water tap is cold and the cold water tap is hot. Ours had no label so we used trial and error. Hot water tap starts cold while cold water tap starts and stays lukewarm. Part of the fun. It is easy to explore the town from here and it is located next to a bottle shop and laundry but you’ll need a car to go to the observatory. Street parking is available in front of the hotel and we needed to carry our luggage up stairs. If reception is unattended you go to bar staff service area to checkin. A bit noisy in the hallways with guests arriving later or leaving earlier. Restaurant and bar on-site with breakfast available at the Paris Cafe next door from 5am.

One of the special things we did on our recent tour with Outback Aussie Tours, was to visit Hotel Corones in Charleville. We were thrilled when we found out our guide for the tour was an actual descendant of Harry Corones and therefore had “inside”information. It was a fun tour through the hotel rooms upstairs hearing the wonderful story of Harry Corones, the super wealthy man who had arrived in Australia as a young man with nothing except an incredibly astute mind and willingness to “go for it”. His story is AMAZING and so worth hearing. People like Harry Corones helped country Queensland to be what it is today. WONDERFUL FUN VISIT

We went for lunch today as we had heard that it was a great feed. Unfortunately the food was dreadful. The steak sandwich was served with soggy white sandwich bread. The steak was so tough we couldn't even cut it with a knife let alone bite through it. Very disappointed!

The shared bathroom facilities are woeful. Unclean and un-maintained. The shower hose was not secured which made showering difficult. No rails, hooks or shelves to place your clothes etc on whilst showering. I returned from the Cosmos experience around 9:30pm and the place was locked up. After around 30 minutes I located a rear door with a sign to say you could use your key to access after hours however my key would not open the door. After some time I managed to get the attention of another guest who let me in. I was locked out for around an hour all up. No information was provided at check in as to after hours access etc.

We stayed three nights the old girl or boy depending on which way you look but it is heritage listed and is lovingly looked after. Our stay was very relaxing. The staff are wonderful. The chef does have Sundays off but there is the Thai around the corner and up a block that’s was fabulous the RSL was the other option. The food on the other nights and lunch was hearty good well cook country food the seafood was exceptional considering where we were. Well done to all from housekeeping to kitchen can’t forget the bar staff and they welcome

Worst place ever! We were given coffee and sugar sachets no tea but worse no jug or cups or even a glass .The tv was so tiny you could hardly see the screen . No hair dryer no tissues, no bedside lamps, noisy a/c, the floors squeaked .A huge step to get into the smelly bathroom only to have to have a Luke warm shower Next morning we could hear people walking up and down the old stair case at 5-30 in the morning I think they were a bus load of people rushing to get out on time . So we got up and got out of there!! never again

Charleville is a great place to visit. The Corones is a Beautiful historic hotel in the middle of town. Historic tour available every day. Comfortable rooms and fantastic meals. Lovely sunset view from the verandah. Really good chef and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

A beautiful old country pub rich in history. Stayed in an ensuite room, it was small in size but huge in character, opening onto the large verandah. Great place for an afternoon drink. We did the tour which takes you to places of the pub not accessible to the public. Learned the story of Harry Corones and the building of his empire. The meals in the restaurant were good, bookings essential. The entire pub is slowly being restored. So if you are wanting 5 star you may find something to complain about but if you are looking for good old country charm and hospitality you are on a winner. In short we stayed the night, did the tour, ate in the restaurant, had a drink in the bar and bought the wine glass.
