Hotel Corones is an atmospheric old style hotel dating from the 1920s. It is possible to take a tour organised via Rachel’s Clothing Rack or the Visitor Information Centre to understand more of its history. We didn’t but we did look at the display rooms with photos etc. and just enjoyed the ambience. We had access to balcony from our room and enjoyed sitting on long wide balcony overlooking the street. We took a room on first floor with a private bathroom. It was all wood, wooden floors, wooden bed and furniture except for two plastic stools. The small old fashioned wardrobe dresser provides hanging space. There were four pillows and one blanket but the reverse split cycle air conditioner was silent and we kept warm. There was a small wall mounted TV, microwave, mini-fridge (with milk and water), kettle and bowls, plates, cups, glasses and cutlery for two as well as coffee, tea, sugar and small biscuits. There is no wifi, no bedside lights and limited power points. (Part of staying in a historic building). Bug spray was supplied but we didn’t need it. The bathroom has good ventilation. The shower recess has a shower curtain and hand held shower with wall mounted dispensers of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. More dispensers of hand soap, hand and body lotion and shaving cream were by the sink with large wall mirror and space for toiletry kits and extra storage. Good water pressure. There was a sign to say that the town water is from the Artesian Basin. In winter the cold water tap is cold, the hot water tap is hot but in summer the hot water tap is cold and the cold water tap is hot. Ours had no label so we used trial and error. Hot water tap starts cold while cold water tap starts and stays lukewarm. Part of the fun. It is easy to explore the town from here and it is located next to a bottle shop and laundry but you’ll need a car to go to the observatory. Street parking is available in front of the hotel and we needed to carry our luggage up stairs. If reception is unattended you go to bar staff service area to checkin. A bit noisy in the hallways with guests arriving later or leaving earlier. Restaurant and bar on-site with breakfast available at the Paris Cafe next door from 5am.
