The accommodation in the homestead area was very acceptable, however we were disappointed with the camp kitchen it was the filthiest kitchen I have experienced and it is supposed to be a Big 4. There was a sign stating “you use it you clean it” and that’s fair enough. However there was no detergent, cleaning spray, cloths and no hot water. Oops wait there was a lump of steelo wow. If a proud owner/manager leads by example and allocates cleaning materials, then people will clean after they have used the camp kitchen. On cleaning how does one clean wash dishes in the Homestead rooms when there is only a small hand basin. Why can’t there be a dedicated plastic wash dish left in the rooms with the soap and cloths. Does this mean the dishes and cups don’t get washed by previous guests
We arrived around 5pm on Friday night to be 'greeted by a welcoming committee' of around 50 grazing kangaroos on the lawns. We were made most welcome by Kathy at reception and stepped into a lovely Golf View room. The airconditioner took little time to take the chill off the room which gave us a wonderful view across the golf course to the imposing hills beyond. They have started to refurbish their rooms and we stayed in the first one and were very impressed. Note: We would still have enjoyed our stay even if we had been given an unfurbished room as the friendly helpful staff and the spectacular natural surroundings made our stay so memorable. We enjoyed some fresh country air as we stepped out onto our balcony and got caught up watching kangaroos feeding and hopping around. We enjoyed chinese meals in the restaurant (see photo of menu) on Friday and Saturday nights. These are the only nights they serve dinner. This maybe because it was in winter time - you would need to check with the hotel on this regarding other more busier months. Fortunately there are places to eat in Normanville and Yankalilla - about 15 minutes drive away. The wood fired combustion heater was not far away from where we ate and we enjoyed a drink after the meal on the couch watching the flames dance around the glowing coals. We enjoyed a comfortable sleep each night awakened only by the birds welcoming the new day. Breakfast is served every morning and there is a choice of continental or cooked. For those who like a big breakfast then choose both! Just off the dining area is a pool table, table tennis and some slot machine games for the kids. Outside there is playground, an excellent 18 hole golf course and mini golf for the whole family to enjoy. There is an outdoor pool, heated spa pool, sauna and gym. On our last night we met up with another family who had decided to sit around the firepit and we spent an enjoyable time with them around the crackling fire. We were sad to leave and will definitely be returning. Thanks to Mark, Cathy, Ralph, Julie, Francis (chef) and Connie who made our stay so memorable. Also if you are travelling to Kangaroo Island on the early ferry or returning on the late ferry this resort is handy for a one night stopover (about a 20 minute drive).
Friendly staff. Gorgeous glamping tent, really spacious and comfy bed. Nice location. Kitchen however only has microwave, fridge, toaster and kettle. Outdoor BBQ. Showers were cold but I only showered late in the evening so possibly could have been hot first thing in the morning.
