Overall this was a great location for camping and visiting wineries nearby. The staff were really friendly and helpful the entire time - from giving us local tips for wineries and shops, to helping with transport. Special thanks to Tony for jumpstarting our van! We used the communal facilities which were kept clean, with complimentary shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. We were even able to have a drink on the sunloungers and keep our wine cool in the staff fridge! The place is under new ownership and there were clearly some discreet renovations and improvements going on but that didnt bother us at all. Would definitely stay here again, look forward to seeing what they end up doing with the place as its a lovely spot with beautiful views and potential. Kelly and Adriaan

location is good, convenient to everywhere in Hunter Valley. Great for families with kids, lots of stuff to play with, though most of them are open only at weekends or school holidays, and when I go there on 17/18 Dec., some of them are still not open or not working? The brekkie is quite good, lots of choice.

While the grounds are lovely and the rooms are very nice from the outside and very large inside they are really in need of renovations and some updated furniture. The walls badly need a paint and the furniture is very old and worn. The table in our unit was glass topped and not very clean. It wobbled on its legs so much it was hard to sit at. There is a lovely pub at the front of the location but unfortunately it was not open on the nights we stayed except for one (even though when we rang them prior to arriving they said they would be) and there is no other place to eat at unless you want to drive to them so we had to improvise. We tried to use the oven and cooktop but they are so old that it was very difficult to heat anything up. I really thought that places would have used the long lock down we have just come out of to make sure everything would be sparkling clean and everything in working order. The dust on the lamps and lamp bulbs was an inch thick. Surely these accommodation places should be making sure everything has been cleaned for people to stay especially because of Covid. I had to wipe everything down with disinfectant wipes just to make sure. Don't rely on the reception area being open as it is closed most of the time. I rang to confirm my booking and had to leave a message but I am still waiting on the phone call back and we have been home for 4 days now. It is very disappointing as we were really looking forward to getting away for a few days after being in lock down for so long. The area is lovely to go for a visit though I just probably wouldn't stay here again.
Tower Lodge is truly a 5 star experience, from our arrival to our departure our stay was truly memorable. On arrival we were warmly welcomed and shown to our suite which was one of the most beautiful rooms I have had the pleasure in staying in , the high ceilings , the open fire and the sumptuous bathroom , truly luxurious. Breakfast and dinner is included in the room rate which is something we would generally avoid but would advise everyone not to avoid as the food is 5 star fine dining using local ingredients and cooked by a chef who you know just loves what he does . The level of service and friendliness of all the staff was outstanding and they could not do enough for us with bookings for wineries and personal gin and whiskey tastings which are a must . Finally I have to mention the owner Michael who introduced himself to us on our first night and was a fountain of knowledge to the history of the lodge and all the other parts of the business . His passion was infectious and made our stay more enjoyable. We will 100% return if we ever return to Australia.
We always enjoy our time at the convent. Apart from the beautiful rooms and grounds, what makes the stay the best are the welcoming and friendly staff who remember us. Jessica is always forefront in our minds with here excellent knowledge and great sense of humour. William is a familiar and kind face and always provides good service and great coffee. Within circa 1876 we always enjoy the wonderful food made with local ingredients and are also impressed with Karen and her friendly welcoming hug. For a relaxing and comfortable stay with top service we highly recommend the Convent.
What a little gem of a place… We booked two nights to visit as many wineries as possible around Pokolbin and this lodge was the ideal place to base ourselves from. The pictures don’t do it justice but our lodge looked out across their small vineyard, the lodge had everything we needed and was well Appointed. After a days wine tasting we were able to throw ourselves in the pool excellent… wake up in the early morning and you can watch the young kangaroos having “boxing” matches in the morning sun…Then go eat in their attached restaurant what was a French cuisine and pretty impressive quality… either way it was a winner ..
The entrance to the room is in the wild. When it is 2 pm, the kangaroo sleeps under the shade of the trees. Then there is a seating area outside the room, which is very comfortable. Children can run in the grass and play with the branches, so happy. In the afternoon, I went to the nearby supermarket to buy some burdock food. The two families made their own dinner, which was very casual and very holiday. The day of the stay is a sunny day. In the evening, you can create a photo. Under the setting sun, the tree shadow is beautiful. If you are lucky enough to catch the kangaroo, the picture is very interesting. In the evening, when you leave the room, you can see the stars in the sky. The Milky Way is clearly visible. The mobile phone broadcasts a quiet little music. It is a step with the loved ones. Stay for a while, don't be too romantic.
Trip.com had the description wrong and we ended up with a small queen room. Receptionist could have paid more attention to what I was saying and offered to upgrade us for free or a charge instead of acknowledging there was an issue. Also, vanity drain hole either dirty or stained but otherwise the room was clean.
