This campsite is closest to the city. Probably therefore, it is a very busy site with not a lot of space between the campsites, although it is not too bad at all. Unfortunately, we were put on a spot that is probably the roughest in the campground; uneven, triangle shaped, with the water hookup quite far out and poor wifi reception. It was however quite photogenic since a huge true was hanging over it. Campground's got nice amenities and a nice pool but just 6 poolbeds to go around, which are of course continuously in use. Don't get me wrong; we did have a nice stay but were just unlucky with the site I guess. It was a 30 to 40 minute walk from there to the downtown Cairns-area.
We loved the atmosphere of the whole environment and had lunch there today. Sitting in a secluded outdoor overlooking the pool, we felt we could have a holiday anywhere in the world. The six of us were satisfied with our meals and thought they were great value for money. We both had a tiger prawn salad for $19 and the wardrobe had a fragrant taste. Three super special menus (which have closed) for $15, including a glass of wine, beer, soft drinks, coffee, and another $15 price is very close to the people including a chicken hamburger and potato chips. The waiting staff is friendly. Our only regret is: “Why didn’t we discover this place earlier?”
We stayed at the Palm Royale for only 3 nights & I wish it could have been longer. We checked in late the 1 st night so there was little time left of the day except to go to bed. Our room had a balcony that overlooked the pool & it was fairly comfortable. Unfortunately, the room was a long walk from the lobby, the air conditioner was very loud, and there was some street noise. Most of the staff @ the desk were pleasant & approachable. There is also guest laundry +++. The pools are fantastic. The restaurant is closed. This property is too far from the centre. There is shopping nearby.
we stayed a couple of nights in a 2br cabin...well set up and has all facilities u will need...except wifi...comvenient location if u have a car...but bus nearby...staff werent real friendly...but helpful...park next to cabin...quiet and comfy
We stayed at the Edge Hill Tavern the night before our flight back home because it is not far from the airport. We arrived 2 hours early and the staff wasn’t bothered at all. They immediately checked us into the room. There were some struggles with the key system and they instantly gave us free drinks at the bar which was very very nice and courteous. As our flight left in the evening we asked for a late check out which was no problem at all! We were so impressed and exited about the staff as they were really friendly. The rooms are just perfect. You’ve got a good working AC a big TV with Netflix the bed is unbelievably comfortable and the bathroom was nice and clean. We were really happy during our stay as we were treated in such a good way! We would really recommend the hotel!
DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE. Horrendously rude staff. I got told off in a completely uncalled for way when I called the after hours line after there was a kid screaming from the room directly next door for hours on end (since we checked in at 4 until after midnight). We could have simply switched rooms. Worse, the door lock was BROKEN. Also: -Food was banned but we booked a room with a fridge/microwave and utensils were provided in room. -Alcohol was prohibited in rooms and would be taken away/confiscated if found. We were never made aware of this when booking and seems like a privacy issue as well??? -We needed to ***** the bed after our stay and take the linens to the front desk. We were never made aware of this when booking. -The shower just leaked right into the bathroom and flooded it with water and the handles were mislabel so it took forever to figure out -The jacuzzi was super cold - The balcony was covered in bird poop. -Cracked wall outlets. This is a safety issue. -Red splatters on the bathroom walls. Blood? They have a 100% satisfaction guarantee and yet never answered my email. I wrote them again two weeks later and again no reply. I still can’t believe I got yelled at. We booked a hotel instead of a hostel specifically for noise purposes as a person who works in voice acting. Terrible choice booking here and would never recommend to anyone.
Stayed here for 2 nights over easter. Chose a King room and on arrival were upgraded to a King Suite on Level 5. View across to Cairns and up to the mountains was very relaxing and with a largish lounge area separate to the King bedroom there is plenty of room to relax if it is an extended stay. For those who like the exercise its not s huge walk into the city especially if you go a few blocks to the foreshore parklands and wander along that way. Busses (quite a few) run along Sheridan Street as an alternate and a taxi ride is only a few $. Airport is also a short taxi trip and the hotel will have one outside within minutes as they did for us a couple of times. Hotel staff are very helpful and the restaurant serve very good meals. We ate there 3 times for evening meals. Next door is Dunwoody's Hotel which offers a great alternate for an evening meal or a nights entertainment (once their renovations are complete).
Once I got used to it (it took me a day or so), I liked the place! The manager, Mike, was laid-back, friendly and always very helpful. We arrived on a dark, rainy day and night (normal for the time of year in Cairns) and my first impressions of the accommodation were a bit gloomy: breeze-block walls (thankfully painted white), *****-lighting, a bit of a stale/damp aroma and sofa with black-tape repairs. However, for most of our stay we had sunny (and mostly dry) weather and it felt much better in the apartment and the breeze-block walls protected us from most of the neighbourhood noise. The apartment was clean and well-equipped. The cooker worked well - we didn't mind using matches to light the hobs. Good, clean toilet / shower room. The shower was powerful enough with water staying consistent at the chosen temperature. Very good value.
We stayed for 5 nights in total and couldn’t have been more impressed with both the rooms and the service at Tropic Towers. First impressions were already great as I called to change some dates due to a Fitzroy Island overnight stay - Peta could not have been more helpful and made changes to our booking free of charge, even though I called the day before our stay. When we arrived, Peta was so welcoming and explained the area to us as it was our first time in Cairns. We stayed in a 1 Bedroom and 2 Bedroom apartment during our time at Tropic Towers and both were immaculate, spacious and like a home away from home. Full kitchens in both rooms meant we had no issues cooking on a couple of evenings. We had a beautiful view of the sunset from our balconies too! Peta even offered for us to leave two of our bags with her for the night of our Fitzroy Island stay, instead of having to take them over to the island on the ferry. We would definitely recommend this place and look forward to staying again in future! Thank you again Peta :)
