"We started taking our kids to Xilegu ten years ago and have returned intermittently since. This New Year's Day, it was fully booked, and we expected it to be crowded and that the experience wouldn't be great. However, it was even worse than we imagined. My family said they wouldn't go back again.
First, we booked a room in the main building. Upon entering, we found the kettle in the bathroom with water still inside, clearly uncleaned by housekeeping. The room itself was very old and poorly maintained; a light switch was broken. It was very windy that night, and the balcony glass door didn't close properly, making a whistling noise all night. Fortunately, the twin beds could be pushed together, which was enough for our family of four.
Next, I have to complain that, despite being a 'hot spring hotel,' it's not very family-friendly. There were no children's pillows. And especially the hotel's breakfast buffet: 88 RMB for children over 1.1 meters and 138 RMB for those over 1.4 meters. The price of that breakfast matched a five-star hotel, but the quality was far from it. The fried noodles were hard, the ribs were cold, and the service was lacking. As for the hot springs, there was no ginger tea available, though the sauna room was quite comfortable for a steam.
On the positive side, the children enjoyed the unpowered playground for an afternoon, which was decent. However, some of the running track's surface was peeling off and unmaintained. Also, the bridge at the swimming pool looked moldy and hadn't been renovated. We checked out the temple fair; there was a wider variety of food, but don't expect too much, as it wasn't very tasty – just filling. The kids enjoyed watching the performances and playing games, which made them happy.
If it weren't for the excellent one-on-one butler service, I would have given an even lower rating. Manager Zhu helped me resolve some of the check-in issues, which deserves praise. However, my family was quite disappointed with this visit and said they probably won't return for another vacation."
