The hotel feels slightly dated, but it has a great location on the Douglas promenade. My room was at the back of the hotel, there is no aircon so the room was warm, but a fan is provided. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was clean, with toiletries provided. The breakfast was great, freshly cooked to order. A special shout out to Matthew, one of the servers, who has a great sense of humour.

We booked a suite and stayed in room 102 for 1 night as we were visiting for a friend’s wedding. Everything was faultless, our room was lovely with an impressive bathroom, robes, amazing sea view, complimentary mini bar, but what really made our stay was the wonderful customer service. Our flight in was very early, we called ahead to see if we could have an earlier check in which was honoured, we were so grateful for this as we were very tired from travelling. The breakfast was delicious, a choice of cooked breakfasts and continental buffet. A very much enjoyable and relaxing stay, thank you The Halvard, we’d most definitely book again.

The pros: the location is perfect for Douglas, the ferry terminal (15 minute walk away, mostly on the flat), and exploring the rest of the Isle of Man. Rooms were lovely, comfy bed, good bathroom size. (Room 18) Excellent selection for breakfast, all freshly cooked. Lots of variety. Staff very pleasant. Easy check in and we were able to leave our cases until the ferry departure on the last day. The cons: there is no lift. We were in room 18 which is at the very top of a five story building. The thighs hated me a few times! As a result, we didn't use the room as much as we normally do for quick freshen ups etc. Breakfast: although it tasted fantastic, as it was freshly cooked there was a wait. We factored in about 45 minutes for breakfast in the morning, and adapted our day accordingly. Despite the cons, it is still worth 5 stars.

We booked 4 nights bed and breakfast for 2 adults. However, when we went for breakfast on day 1 the restaurant was locked. When we texted the owners we were told they had cancelled breakfasts at the end of September because it was uneconomical. Others also complained as noted in the comment book. We were told no refund was available as the breakfast was ”COMPLIMENTARY”. Also, the shower needs looking at as it could not be adjusted past the level of scorching hot. Not a particular problem with this hotel but in general visitors coming with their own cars should be informed that parking is a problem in Douglas. We were told we could park in the street but this proved impossible and we had to park about 20 minutes away on the promenade and time was limited.

It is worth mentioning that the beef burger in this hotel restaurant is exceptionally delicious. The location of the hotel is not bad, there are many places to go to the pier to transfer. There is also the front desk is very warm.

Stayed at hotel for 5 nights this September. We had a 4th floor room overlooking the rooftops and with sea view. Room was immaculate , as was the en suite. Lift a little bit quirky, but got used to it. Breakfasts of a high standard with piping hot main corses including local bacon and sausages. We dined at the hotel every night and the quality of the food was very good with the roast beef dinner on a Sunday night the highlight. Very comfortable bar with a Happy Hour several nights and good selection of local beer, and gins. Staff very welcoming and catered for all needs. Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel, which justifies more than its 3 Star Grading.
