We only stayed here one night as we were just travelling the Snaefelssness penninsula. Its right near Kirkjufell. Close to town so easy to get dinner. Really a very nice clean, modern room. Full kitchen. If I lived in Iceland I would escape there for the weekend.
This is a wonderful place to stay in an absolutely enchanting town! Grundarfjörður is far better than the guidebooks make it out to be. And the Old Post Office is really the perfect spot. The rooms aren't big but they're well appointed and the shower is wonderful! It's quiet and the blackout curtains do a great job in the summer. From this perfect vantage point, it's a wonderful and easy walk to the base of the Kirkjufell Mountain and the delight waterfalls. In town, there are two amazing coffee shops (Valeria which is run by a wonderful Colombian expat and the bookstore/cafe Graena Kompaniið which is run by two wonderful Icelandic women). Dinner at Bjargarsteinn Mathus is first rate. And, you can't miss the great studio of the sculptor and artist, Ludvik Karlsoon. Really, this town is a delight. We spent two nights there - one very full day - and we did not regret it. It's still coming to me in my dreams long after!
My wife and I stayed in a room on the 2nd floor, full of large rooms, and a cubicle similar to the living room, and the sofa is a sofa bed, so if there are 3-4 people, it is no problem; you can see the church directly from the window.
The room is completely slippers, very clean!
The kitchen on the 1st floor has complete ovens, gas stoves and other kitchen equipment to use!
There is a parking lot nearby and parking is very convenient.

A great house, at the foot of the snow-capped mountains, super beautiful.
Driving to Church Hill for 5 minutes, I saw the northern lights at night,
The house is very clean and can cook. I also saw a rice cooker.
We found out about this place when I stumbled on a description of it in a book, found in a bookstore in Point Reyes, CA, called _Remote Places to Stay: The Joy of Remoteness_, which was about a few dozen places around the world. Hotel Budir --summarized as ”Elegant and Romantic”--was the first one in the book. So we went there. It lived up to all our expectations. I can't understand any of the quibbles I read about in reviews (at least now that the construction's finished). The food's exquisite, and the portions are plentiful; the place is both light-filled, airy, and warmly cozy; the views from inside are beautiful and the walks outside are breathtaking. Rather than circling Iceland, we used our time to just settle here and deeply explore a magical place. Check out the accurate description in that book on remote places by Debbie Pappin and David de Vleeschauwer. You'll see why we came here. We can't believe our luck in finding Hotel Budir.
A lovely little hotel! Don’t let the approach fool you - it doesn’t look much from the outside but it really is lovely. The room we had was spacious and clean with a gorgeous view of the the mountain and the beach. The bathroom was clean and had a good shower. There isn’t anywhere else to go and eat so either plan accordingly or have the buffet at the restaurant - it’s expensive but as a one off it was worth it! The staff were incredibly helpful too - we’d been having some issues with our car and they were more than willing to help us out! Make sure you take a visit down the road to see the seals!
